The thing I like most about this is that it's a game of scale from PlatinumGames. They've done insane action games (and made a few long and maybe overlong games in a genre that usually comes up short,) but there's not been a big, epic quest game, and that's something missing from a company that has roots in Clover (I'm thinking Okami) and before that Capcom. I like what Clover does, but its games tend to be too demanding for me in most of my moods, but give me good and challenging gameplay over a longer haul and I'm down for the ride.

Yeah this is really exciting. Tight action and some roaming/adventure like Okami had would be superb.

I was thinking this as well. A modern CT dream team, impossible by any real stretch of imagination.

Supergroup, assemble!

My mind is still blown. I mean, I had thought it a slim possibility that Nier might see a sequel someday, but Cavia's dissolution made me think it would be missing some ingredients. I never imagined it would be made by such an optimal group of people that can make the sequel it deserves.

The game acknowledges that other timelines exist (Nier is sorta briefly mentioned), but otherwise the game has nothing to do with Nier and much more to do with Drakengard 1. Some of the weapon stories do reference Nier, and there is some speculation that one character is related to the Nier timeline.

Thanks. We'll see what craziness awaits :D

After the square conference ended YouTube automatically went to the IGN recap... And it was 3 of the guys from the famous 50 inch resolution gif. Wasn't surprised when they seemed clueless about Nier.
According to them the last gen of consoles is apparently known as 'the 360 gen'.

Cringing so hard

This game won't be out for a long long time.... But i'm almost convinced it will make it to other platforms, but they are starting development on PS4

E3 keeps delivering. Never in a million years did I expect to see a successor to Nier, and with Platinum assisting too! Wow!

I'd say go with the PS4 only until we have info to suggest otherwise. If only so people are not left disappointed.

Honestly, this was a bigger announcement than Shenmue 3 for me. So hyped this is coming back. Such an amazing game, well written characters, fantastic story, can't praise the OST enough either and NG+ done right.

So good.

Guys, I think the main character really is Kaine.

Take a closer look.

So, in the last 30~ hours, we've had:
1) Xbone backwards compatability
2) All of Rare's non-Nintendo-owned work on a disc
3) The Last Guardian
4) Shenmue 3
5) Final Fantasy 7 HD
6) A new Starfox by Platinum Games
7) A new Nier by Platinum Games + the big cheeses of the first Nier

The only sane conclusion is that witchcraft is afoot.
This honestly looks like a parody post from like a week before E3. I still don't believe what has happened over the last day.

we don't know, but seems like the girl from the trailer is the main character, so maybe not?
He should appear, or atleast linked to the story. It's Nier afterall.

Given that it's Yoko Taro we are talking about, I doubt it's going to be a direct sequel. Nier's future is pretty much set in stone after all.

Hell, I wouldn't rule out a prequel, give the extensive backstory they wrote for the setting.

I need to replay Nier before this is out. Wont be easy, so many friggin' must play games on the horizon, I'm not even halfway through Witcher 3 lol.

Totally. Without even realizing it, I'd just quietly reserved myself to the fact that Nier was a brilliant one-off. Never in my life would I be clamoring for a sequel. This announcement came completely out of left field. It's an E3 megaton for the ages.

Yeah, that's exactly it.

It's so amazing because it doesn't make any sense.

wow that list is so one-sided, it's no wonder that Microsoft's conference was so predictable ;0

It's also why they struggle to sell consoles outside the US. They have never made a genuine, sustained, attempt to expand their userbase outside of the core FPS demographic. They had a golden opportunity to do that last gen with the 360, but they sat on their laurels. That mindset is coming back to haunt them this generation.

For people wondering why it doesn't look like it's coming to the xbox one... Look here:

Look at the numbers for the top ranked games. Look at what genre a lot of them are in. Then type in Nier and see how it stacks up.

It's clear for all to see.

The PlayStation 3 version of Nier outsold the 360 version in the US. At a time when the 360 install base was much higher than that of the PS3.

Overall though, the game didn't really see high sales so I'm shocked to see we're getting a sequel.

Even at the beginning of the trailer, when it was showing credits from Nier veterans, my thought was, "Holy shit, the Nier people are making some other game."
Yeah, I thought the same thing. And that alone already made me hyped.

But it turns out it was the Nier people making Nier.

Damn!!! This announcement killed me. I guess part of me always knew a FFVII Remake was likely, and so while I love that announcement, this one pierced me good (it's also obvious what happens in FFVII, so no real surprises there to make me giddy).

Love to see this collab work. Yoko Taro seems to always know how to get me hyped! And that music!!!

Best E3 ever!

Do you honestly think if they ran a similar poll for PS3 games Nier would be anywhere near the top? Come on now...
