Xbox One adds Xbox 360 backwards compatibility

I doubt anyone will remember MS's conference. Just because they dropped the tv gimmic and kinect does not mean they won in any stretch of immagination. Backward compatibility is pretty huge though.

Shenmue 3, BC, Elite controller, Cortana in X1 are my GOTS moments. MS e3 will be remembered for some of these.

....FF7, Last Guardian and Shenmue won the conference, those 3 announcements (honestly just FF7 and Shenmue alone) completely sucked the air out of everything else.

Dont agree with FF7/TLG (special for Sony audience not interested in either). But Shenmue 3 was huge, probably the biggest of the conference.

MS won over the holy trinity? How?

I have an Xbone and all, but I don't see how the holy trinity can be beaten.

I can see people thinking MS won, as I don't own a Sony console and lack a history with final fantasy. Shenmue 3 is amazing, but it's a ways off.

I own a xb1 and will gladly jump on stuff like the rare collection and forza this year. BC is a neat feature as I have a backlog of stuff and a huge xbla library.

Bethesda won for me as I'm easily going to spend hundreds of hours in fallout 4 by the looks of it too.

Yeah, I understand that, it's almost like PS2 Sony is back and try to revive the great classics of PS2 which "new" gamers hasn't played or maybe heard of.

I love the Rare collection and the BC (even though Im very dissapointed the publishers must approve the games first).

All this who 'won' is pointless distraction. MS had a good showing so did Sony.

I'm excited by those Sony games coming, but they are a long way off. Lets not forgot we're only in 2015. And people are hyped for games probably not coming until at the very least late 2017. That is ages away.

Anyway this is a large derail. Lets all try to stay on topic :D

I personally doubt we will see any Capcom games making use of this service. Aren't they putting more emphasis on remastered games? This would effectively kill half of their sales.

It's little to no work for Capcom and with games like Dragons Dogma, it's almost a no brainer. They have no current plans to do a new version of that game.

Instead they're doing that online only game which is only on the PC/PS4 and at this moment in time Japan only. So I can see them agreeing to let those games be BC.

Games like Lost Planet and the first 2 Dead Rising games could happen. I wouldn't be surprised to see the fighting games as well.

FF7 remake is coming to Xbox One. Sony announced a Kickstarter for Shenmue 3 which was both kinda sleazy, but still a good gesture to get the message out to more people - also coming to Xbox One, though. Loved SotC and Ico, but I won't believe Last Guardian until I see someone actually playing a final version of the game lol. It's too ethereal to me right now.

I think Microsoft knocked it out of the park this year as an Xbox owner. The new Horizon game from Sony looks badass, though and will certainly go in my collection.

Shenmue 3 is coming to Xbone?

I've played games since the Berlin Wall fell, I've just never played a single final fantasy.

Well the other ones were Xbox, no? Isn't this one coming for PC, too? Maybe not Xbox. Either way, this is a thread about Xbox One BC.

Shenmue was only for Dreamcast, Shenmue 2 was for OG Xbox and Dreamcast, Shenmue 3 is only for PC and PS4.

Ok, well either way their Kickstarter says currently focusing on PC and PS4 and that other platforms have not been decided yet, which means it's not exclusive in any way, so I don't really count it as a Sony thing - same with FF7.

For me they did because the holy trinity as you call it are so far off that they wont be reality for several years. Sony is saying the TLG has been in production since 2012 and all they can show a modified version of what they showed before and no release date.

To me Sony show was 90% 2016, 2017, 2018 stuff where MS was more of the here and now. Shenmue for me was the big thing but when they said kickstarter it took the wind out of my sail because we are looking at minimum 3 years before it is released.

I disagree, but good answer noneless. :)

Sony is helping funding the game, so it won't come to Xbone, FF7 Remake is a Street Fighter V situation according to Kagari.

Look at their Kickstarter, they specifically said that they haven't decided on platforms and even Sony said it's entirely their project on stage last night so I wouldn't be so sure. You have no idea if it's not coming to Xbox, you're just assuming with nothing to back it up.

We get it. You love Sony. Why are you in this thread continuing this "Holy Trinity" talk?

I don't own an Xbox, but the "holy trinity" has zero appeal to me. FF7 is over rated, I never played Shenmue, and TLG? We'll see.
The Sony conference was pretty lame to me, with No Man's Sky being the only thing that interested me at all. Backwards compatibility though...that's huge.

Been traveling around Hong Kong and Macau so haven't had time to reply to this thread;

Just reading all that has been said, it looks like they've brought over the Xbox 360 API and translated the PPC calls to x86/x64

I do know that this *should* be easier than OG Xbox emulation as I was reading from developers that MS was a lot more strict on them using the Xbox API with the 360 and if they coded to the metal or went around the API that the game would not be approved. So that would help in this case. Also they had to pay royalties to nVidia for OG Xbox BC I believe, which is just nuts.

article from 2009:
If all of this sounds pretty harsh on Microsoft, it's worth noting that there is a ton of excellent reasons for standing by this requirement. It means that the platform holder can update the system software and hardware specification and ensure that all games past, present and future will work on all iterations of the console.

More than that, in the here and now, it can easily be argued that the implementation of DirectX is a key reason that the Xbox 360's tools and development environment are considered to be generally excellent. Not only that, but game makers are familiar with the standard, and code is easily portable to and from PC. A firm adherence to DirectX is also good news for gamers too: it makes the chances of full backwards compatibility on Xbox Next a far more realistic prospect...

All up it sounds good - from what they've said its the legal issues that have to be worked through more than anything else.

Nothing! I said nothing!
Loving the backwards compatibility, UK discs don't work yet, is that confirmed?

The MS and Sony conferences were very different, hard to compare. MS spoke about here and now, Sony was looking way further ahead.

I backed Shenmue on kickstarter but Sony had nothing else I was even remotely interested in with the possible exception of Horizon.

sorry for the derrail but,.. the thing is, Sony got the highlights mostly because of:

- showing again a previously announced game: TLG, which is something to feel ashamed, because it was revealed back in 2009, 6 years ago, and now finally it seems it's going to be released in 2016, 7 years later so it's still a disappointment. excitement over the incompetence of Sony.

- announcing the FFVII remake, which was used to reveal the PS3. yeah, it was a tech demo, but many people expected it to be released on PS3, so in my eyes it's just a reminiscence of something it could've been released 6 years ago (as TLG), if only Sony and S-E wanted to happen. I should add it isn't fully exclusive as Sony stated "first on Playstation 4", so who know in which other platforms it will be released too.

- Shenmue 3, which isn't fully exclusive as well. yeah, it's been one of those titles gamers have been asking for years, but it's expected for 2018, plus the way it was announced is kinda disappointing, KS? come on.

in the end, I see this 'holy trinity' over rated because of the reasons I explained above.

and what is left for Sony this year, Persona 5? CoD exclusive DLC?

When does Microsoft have these big X360 sales/ultimate game sales? Want to buy Crackdown, Halo Wars etc. so Im ready when they are BC.

That's because some of the games they announced will come out that year....

Sorry too tempting to let it go.

lmao, yea, someone had to say it

That said though, even if Shenmue 3 had actually been announced as targeting 2025, that alone still would have done it for me. As long as I have a decent shot of still being alive for it, I'm happy lol

The Holy Trinity do nothing for me as they are not my style of games. So with that, their announcements did not "win" Sony the conference by default.

Sony's conference was very Japan-centric, I get GAF likes that kind of stuff but eh me not so much. I've never play Final Fantasy or Shenmue....so not seeing why I should be particularly excited. I'm just glad this was announced as I get to play RDR again.

Agreed.. I have a PS4 and enjoy it very much so but for what Sony showed I was mostly excited for NMS, the new GG game and also Uncharted 4.... none of those will even sniff 2015 where as I could list a number of games at the Xbox show that I will buy.. this year. Not to mention I was able to download a number of games that day.. I never thought I was going to be able to play on my X1 with Backwards Compat.. which is huge for me considering how many arcade games I bought.

The "holy trinity" to me... did nothing at all as I really could care less about 2 of those games. TLG I will keep an eye on as it looks interesting but so did Recore on the X1..

Agreed. Looking forward to another RDR playthrough as well.

Yeah most of sony games don't interest me at all, so I'd say MS won. I guess it just comes down to personal preference. Horizon looked great though and Uncharted as always but other than that there wasn't much for me.

I'm really not sure about Recore, I'll keep my eye on it but right now I don't know how to feel about it. I don't know how it can be an early 2016 release, looks further off than that... Maybe we'll see gameplay at gamescom?

MS had an excellent show imo and that's even without some of the biggest 2016 games showing up (Crackdown, Quantum Break & Scalebound). Really looking forward to Gamescom

Went searching through my games cupboard earlier. I have over 150 retail games and god knows how many digital games on my various 360's, so this is really exciting to me. I took a few games out in preparation that they'll get put up on the BC list at some point this year.

also I'd love an invite at dashkap :p
Omega 5 was the first thing I voted for yesterday! I miss that game and its awesome soundtrack.

I don't even own a Xbox One. Yet.

StudioTan

Hold on, friend! I'd love to share with you some swell news about the Windows 8 Metro UI! Wait, where are you going?
I'm still kicking myself for ignoring 360 GwG for so long because my 360 was busted and only 20gb

Yep, same here :( I think the only one I did get oddly enough was Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise because it was in my Ready to Install list yesterday.

Microsoft gave me now and future where Sony dangled my childhood in front of my face and said nope you have to wait nearly 3 years. Thats not a bad thing but Microsoft is giving gamers 3 exclusive AAA ip's along with a massive collection of old school games (jet force gemini and blast corps alone i mean come on) and a remaster of a game that helped shape Xbox into what it is today.....this year. They didnt even show off Crackdown, Quantum Break or Scalebound which are scheduled to be out in 2016 already. Its pretty promising to be an Xbox fan where as Sony fans had their dreams answered for the future.

So who "won" e3 well for entertainment value Sony hands down wiped the floor with everyone and Xbox delivered the games is how i see it
