Remember11 is amazing. I think it's overestimated how "unfinished" it is, though. Without spoiling anything, Ever17 also was littered with tiny mysteries that weren't explained in the story but derived by fans later, and a significant part of E17's final explanations were just going over what was previously explained in a less organized way. R11 definitely lacks that definitive final explanation+resolution, but almost everything IS inside the VN.

I ended up much more satisfied than I thought I'd be.

You sure about that? After being completely unsatisfied with Umineko, I'm a bit iffy about starting long VNs that don't have the important answers.

Well, Remember11 won't be a secondo Umineko. Umineko's answers are completely hidden and up to the player to piece together, while if you pay attention during Remember11, you should be able to piece everything up easily. This has been said many times, but what threw off people in the first place were some twists that happen right at the end of the game. If you paid attention and understood the dynamics of the plot, those twist will not be a surprise. Even so, the game ends on those twists and doesn't offer closure.
So, Remember11 lacks closure, not answers...

no real info yet, but THIS is a nice little nod to the teaser.

edit: and vgp still has 999 in stock for $29.99CDN, they are fast+cheap with int'l shipping

edit2: Famitsu has a short write-up of the announcement, no new info but they confirmed that only the Western release date has been announced, nothing for Japan yet and the Japanese name is still unknown as well

Wonder if Zero Dilemma will be the actual title (well subtitle)? Interesting

Remember11 didn't take me all that long, 30 something hours max. Not to mention it is probably one of my favorite VNs. It doesn't have an "answer sheet" route but answers are given to you implicitly. Nowhere as gargantuan and convoluted as Umineko, IMHO. There are a multitude of banal (but necessary due to the plot) endings (33 endings 20 of which are mediocre at best) and quite a few choices. I recommend getting all bad ends you can before getting the good end of a route (there are only two routes in Remember11, and both are amazing). explainremember11.wordpress.com is a concise website that CONTAINS HUGE REMEMBER11 SPOILERS but appears to be a concise resource if you don't want to analyze it yourself. The character cast does not have a single character who isn't multifaceted and important to the story in some way, and the Uchikoshi shows.

My favorite VN after 999 and VLR. Highly recommended, also has a pretty damned good soundtrack to boot.

Pretty sure it is Zero Time Dilemma.

Sounds good to me.

*sigh* now I have to start VLR again and completely finish it this time, as I fell victim to the save bug. But hey, on Vita this time.

So irrationally pumped for this! I'm one of those weirdos that liked 999 much more, but VLR was still fantastic and an easy platinum.

In my top 5 VN games of all time, though my full list is pretty small.

Anyone here play Virtues Last Reward on a Playstation TV? is a pretty doable or tougher with the controller based touch screen?

It's probably very doable. The only thing you wouldn't be able to do with buttons is taking notes but you can just use the screenshot function for that. That's the better method anyway.

Guys I played 999 back when it came out and have all but forgotten most of the stuff I think. Will I be ok just reading story synopsis on wiki or watch YT before I jump into VLR?

Just rewatched the trailers for 999 and vlr.

Man the 999 trailer is so... Amateur lol. Go back and watch it, it's only just synced to the music, there's no punch to it, the only thing that really draws your attention is the content of some of the words and hosoe's incredible main theme

Vlr on the other hand is a much better produced trailer, with short, snappy phrases, all sorts of camera effects and just far better timing. It is let down slightly by the 3d models though which look real basic

From a technical standpoint 999 was really, really poor! Beautiful hand drawn animations, but everything else was pretty dated for the time! :)

Very.

Uchikoshi mentioned that Spike Chunsoft considers the ZE series in Japan to be in the red. Even after they demanded him to tone down the gruesome atmosphere of 999 after market research leading up to the startup of VLR's development, it ironically it ended up selling less than 999 (and lead to Uchikoshi admitting ruefully that he much prefers writing the kind of stuff that was in 999).

In contrast, Aksys considers it to be one of their biggest franchises and every time they were asked about the series performance they'd respond with very vocal satisfaction.

For a while the entire existence of the game hinged on whether or not the franchise's main publisher saw any gain in developing a game that would mostly have a western audience. Spike Chunsoft was allegedly okay with publishing the game but not funding it, at least not the entirety of it. Seems like there's a good chance that Aksys ended up saving the day one way or another.

yup, from the old community thread:

comment on US sales by Akselziys

Regarding US sales of the Zero Escape series (both 999 and VLR), we are very pleased with how both games have sold, and the Zero Escape series is one of our most successful series.

vs. Japanese sales numbers from 2013 (first week / ltd)

3DS: Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward - 7,890 / 17,913
PSV: Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward - 6,133 / 15,454
NDS: Zero Escape: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors [Chun Selection] - ?? / 4,714
NDS: Zero Escape: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors - 16,967 / 39,653

999 sold ok-ish, VLR had a higher budget and was changed to better fit the taste of Japanese costumers but sold worse than 999

Just went and checked out the 999 trailer, isn't it the exact thing as the intro movie for the game? lol That main theme though gets me everytime

So VLR combined sold around 33K units in Japan, whereas 999 sold 44K units total so far?

What about non-Japan figures; how much have both games sold?

The only numbers available are guesstimates from chartz, the rest are comments like the one from Akselziys but no real numbers
