Obscure Wii Games worth checking out?

My recommendations would be Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn; Pandora's tower and Fragile dreams

Also these 3 would be my favorite Wii games along with xenoblade

1. Kid Adventures: Sky Captain - best control in any flight sim ever, realistic or otherwise

The Secret Saturdays: Beasts of the 5th Sun - rare licensed game that's pretty good. It's a Bionic Commando rip-off sidescroller. Kinda ugly but a lot of fun gameplay. About two hours long though so you don't want to spend too much on it. It's kinda WiiWare-y but it's only retail.\

I'm usually pretty on top of everything that gets listed in these kinds of threads but I've never tried these two. Neat!

May I have a cookie?
The PAL cover looks completely different

If I had seen that PAL cover I would have instantly bought it. The NA cover was so generic and plain that it turned me off

Just so you know, in NA version of Skycrawlers has a reversible cover with the other art on it.
was just about to post this exact reply :D

All of these games should be cheap as dirt:

Domino_Rally_Wii_ESRB.jpg

Personally haven't gotten around to playing my copy, but it has that weird quirkiness from Katamari Damacy.

baroque.jpg

My favorite roguelike. Read my thoughts on it here.

256px-Victorious_Boxers_Revolution.jpg

Victorious Boxers is a budget game series based on Hajime no Ippo, the best manga :D. It's kind of like an arcady Punch-Out with some godawful graphics at times. The story follows the manga. I find it enjoyable in short bursts.

List fully updated. I owned a lot more than I thought. Guess I should shoot for 200 total and a game for every letter of the alphabet.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I totally found several titles I wouldn't have that interest me a lot. Thanks.

A vote for a surprisingly fun racing game that does not contain the words "Mario Kart":

Beep beep!

Looks super rough but if you ca play soccer with cars in 4-player local I'm in. Thanks!

How the fuck did this not get posted in the first page?
oOlzOsG.jpg

Waiting for translation patch.

I think the PS2 version is more desirable since dual audio.

Apparently it's the worst Sakura Wars game though, regardless of platform. I wonder why they localized this instead of say, the PS2 port of 3.

Own both Wii and PS2.

There's some game with some anime kids standing over a puddle or something

that was overlooked based on a lot of peoples talk about it

I have no idea what the game is

I'm super interested in this. But I'm going to guess it's Fragile Dreams. The cover had Seton over a puddle with the reflection being Ren.

Wii easily has my favorite selection of 1st party games from Nintendo

I think most of the stuff I was going to say has been mentioned and it doesn't sound like import releases are what you're looking for. A few I think haven't been mentioned

The Godfather: Blackhand Edition - Easily my favorite sandbox game since Steambot Chronicles. I don't even like the Godfather films and I loved this game. Motion controls were super satisfying and it's a ton of to do the story and side missions.

Let's Tap - Fun game where you use the remote to register players tapping on boxes to control the different games. The race and puzzle ones are the best of the bunch.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon - really fun coop lightgun shooter from a third person perspective. It was developed by Next Level Games.

Not a huge Godfather guy and would also have to get the game for PS3.

Looks like import releases are being mentioned so I'll add:

Eyeshield 21: The Field's Strongest Warrior - A licensed football game from Nintendo. It has some balance issues and it's pretty shallow compared to the PS2 game but it's a fun arcadey football game similar to Tecmo Bowl.

Takt of Magic - I guess you would it call it a light rts where you draw shapes to cast spells. You can combine the shapes to create new spells and it is packed with content.

How much could I get out of Takt of Magic with no Japanese understanding.

No interest in Eyeshield but the artist is great in the One-Punch Man remake.

Wimbledon being on reminds me that EA Grand Slam Tennis was well-received at the time. Did okay commercially, so it's weird that it never had much of a legacy

They were planning ports to 360 and PS3 but eventual just made Grand Slam Tennis 2 for those systems. I have it and the first.

Seconding Castle Shikigami 3. Easily the most underrated game on the system. Not as good as 2, but very fun. And the dub is phenomenal.

On my list to get.

All of these games should be cheap as dirt:

Have the last two. Will look into the dominoes one.

Takt of Magic shouldn't be too much trouble in Japanese. Obviously the story stuff won't be understandable but the actual gameplay is pretty approachable. I think one or two missions would take a bit of effort to figure out the win conditions but otherwise it's pretty straight forward and there are bunch of challenge maps and stuff to do outside of the story. My friend made it through half of the game and he doesn't know any Japanese. It actually became one of his favorite games of all time in a matter of days

I'd still suggest going for the Wii version of the Godfather if you ever do change your mind. It just plays way better than any other version thanks to the ir aiming and the motion controls are super well done.

Now going through your list.

Noticing a serious lack of And Yet it Moves (WiiWare). You need to play this and you need to play the Wii version due to superior controls.

I think it was already mentioned but ANNO: Create a New World / Dawn of Discovery is another top suggestion.

Dead Space Extraction is also a must play. It's not just a mindless on rails splatfest, it faithfully recreates the Dead Space horror/tension experience in the "on rails" format. And it has a cool story, too. Miles ahead of the RE Chronicles games, for example.

I'm also not seeing the Goldeneye 007 remake anywhere!

Mario Strikers Charged is a crazy fun variant of soccer/football from Next Level Games. Great multiplayer game. Lots of friendships to be RIP.^^

plus I second the recommendations for Takt of Magic and Domino Rally/Minon: Everyday Hero

Pikmin 1+2 need to be played in their New Play Control versions. Your list says New Play Control but doesn't specify what game.

You could also look into SimCity Creator. I own it but haven't played it yet, apparently it's pretty neat, though.

Since you're open to imports already, hunt down Zangeki No Reginleiv. I believe that's doable without knowing Japanese, too. And since you own Fatal Frame 2's PAL import already, why not go all-in and get Zero: Tsukihami no Kamen (Fatal Frame 4) as well since that has a wonderful English patch out there.

In terms of WiiWare, check out:

Dive: The Medes Islands Secret
Excitebike World Rally
LA-MULANA (though an enhanced EX version just came out on Vita a while ago)
NyxQuest: Kindred Spirits
World of Goo
Blaster Master Overdrive

With all these Dawn of Discovery mentions i was wondering... is it just because this is the first time a game of this sort is done decently on consoles or is it legitimately GOOD when compared with similar PC games or if i'm not mistaken the same exact game ON PC?

Basically, should i play this OVER the PC game or...?

They are pretty much completely different games, similar to the Prince of Persia Forgotten Sands thing.

Maybe not an obscure one, but I had no idea this rerelease existed until recently thanks to GAF:

Maybe one to check out. Haven't started it myself but it is sitting comfortably with my WiiU games ready to play.

I just started Tenchu and it is A LOT of fun so far!
I can't believe that OST is not more loved around here. Goddamn, the first mission has some amazing music. Controls work fine, stealthing is fun and graphics look quite good. I hope it keeps the pace!

I want that GTI game so badly, but I doubt I'll find it here, even less so for a decent price =/

Tenchu is criminally underrated. I freaking love that game.

This is a really good early Wii title.

It's weird, right?

It fits all the warning signs of potential garbage.

a) licensed game
b) licensed MOVIE game
c) third party game on nintendo platform
d) late port of last-gen game
e) EA...
f) previous multiplatform title with motion controls bolted on

But it works. This is an incredibly amazing feat.

Same goes for the Scarface game on Wii btw. Don't think I've seen that mentioned here.

To the topic creator:

Are you looking just for obscure Wii games or obscure ones that are actually decent?

Because the Wii has so much unusual software, althought in it's majority of low quality, that you just need to Google up a list and start picking from there.

Tenchu Wii is mostly fantastic, but it suffers from having the worst combat of any game on Wii maybe.

Protip: never carry a sword around unless you need it to physically progress through an area. When you get caught you'll just pop back to the beginning of the level instead of having to do awful sword fighting with the guards.

10 more games added that I just got including Domino Rally.

Both. I mean a game can be very rough and a 5/10 game but if it something unique or weird I want it. Like Domino Rally. Or maybe it uses the Wii Remote well.

I basically have almost all the solid titles at this point I'm looking for some titles that are worth a look.

Yeah I plan to get that. I appreciate how it's the only game in the series so I don't need to get others.

Just saw your updated list. Your Wiiware collection needs a lot of work! Here are some games I highly recommend:

Fluidity (a.k.a Hydroventure in Europe) - one of the best downloadable games ever. (Wii exclusive)
Toki Tori - Brilliant puzzle game. (Also available on other platforms)
Art Style series - All five are great, but I especially recommend Rotohex (best puzzle game concept since Tetris) and Cubello (extremely fun puzzle game mixed with shooter with awesome pointer controls) All five are Wii exclusive.
Bit Trip series - Again, all six are well made games, with Runner and Beat being the cream of the crop. They're available on Steam as well but I highly suggest playing Beat and Flux with the Wiimote.
Megaman 9 and 10 - Hold their own against the best in the series. (Available on other platforms but I suggest playing with sideways Wiimote to best emulate the feel of the NES controller)
LostWinds 1 and 2, Nyxquest - All three are 2D platformers that are greatly enhanced by their brilliant use of pointer controls. (Nyxquest is on Steam, LW1 and 2 I believe are Wii exclusive, they might also be on iphone or something but lets be honest, you don't want to play those versions)
World of Goo - Puzzle game masterpiece where you build towers out of goo blobs to reach each level's objectives. (Also on Steam)
Shin'En Wiiware games: Art of Balance, Jett Rocket and FAST Racing League - Technical marvels with some of the best visuals on the entire system despite having to fit in under 40 Megabytes. Art of Balance is the best of these three, it's a puzzle game where you stack blocks in a tower without making them fall. Jett Rocket is a well made 3D platformer (remember those?) and FAST is a racing game with unique mechanics which ironically isn't all that fast. (AoB also on 3DS and Wii U, Jett Rocket and FAST are Wii exclusive)

And these are just a handful of the more well known Wiiware games you're missing, there are also dozens more really good titles you should check out which are quite obscure in comparison.

Just wanna point out, he has Bit.Trip Complete (the disc version).

And if you get Toki Tori, get the Wii U version (and Toki Tori 2+, one of the best and most brilliant games of 2013)
Get Art of Balance on Wii U also. Same game updated with pretty visuals.
Don't buy FAST on WiiWare, wait for FAST Racing Neo on Wii U. The motion steering is horrible. But there's a demo so you can try it out yourself.

I prefer playing Toki Tori with the Wiimote due to IR controls, but the Wii U version doesn't support them. (AoB also is better with IR but the Wii U port DOES support the Wiimote, which is nice.) And FAST is definitely worth playing, the Wiimote steering is good, and even if you don't like it you can play with joystick controls instead.

There are so many mini-game fests available on the Wii, so why should you play Help Wanted? Because its a single-player focused, pleasingly daft game with lots of RPG elements and a substantial amount of great content.

You have to save the world by working a variety of jobs, you perform a job, earn some money, spend money on items/new jobs, items give you a different sort of currency to save the world from encroaching dangerous things (wads of gum, meteors, ramen noodle cup). The jobs make up the meat of the gameplay, but the motion controls actually work really well, and are sometimes mechanically absent all together. The story is delightful and barking mad at the same time, and the RPG elements give the game an addictive hook (just five more minutes, and then I can level up my cow milking job).

In all honesty, its one of my most played games for the Wii by far. More time got put into this then many AAA Wii efforts from Nintendo, or many of the very other fine games from this thread. So yeah, its pretty good, I'd even rank it as Hudson's finest hour of their late era prior to their shutdown.

Wow, never heard of this one. Crazy how I still come across new stuff despite following these hidden Wii gem threads all the time lol.

Btw the game is called Job Island: Hard Working People in PAL regions in case anyone is wondering why amazon only brings up US import results. :)

This is good to know. I have the game in my collection but have only really played it for about 30 minutes years ago.

YES! I was surprised that this game was SO fun. The mechanics with the motion and everything worked. It was just fun to play and I loved it. Seriously one of the best Wii games I played beyond the obvious answers. Love it.

Question. What is the relationship between We Ski, We Ski & Snowboard and Go Vacation?

Which is the best and why? Or what do they each bring?

Learned about it from another Neogaf thread. Looking for a complete copy at GameStop if not I'll eventually order online.

No Donkey Kong Country Returns or Punchout OP? For shame...

Punch-Out is listed as a Wii U download and I have the 3DS version of Returns.

Even with the alphabetical list multiple people keep missing what I have.

I came in with a lot of niche games in mind but already owned more than I could recommend...

edit: Wait OP you don't own Radiant Dawn?!

We Ski is the original, We Ski & Snowboard is the sequel that adds a mountain resort hub, Go Vacation is a followup by the same team that takes the same "open world with minigames" format and vastly expands it to cover a ton of different events.

Well in that case search The Spiderwick Chronciles Wii game. It's a quality adventure game with solid mechanics. Mostly kid friendly but very well done.

Edit: Is there a good place online to get Wii games for relatively cheap, specially these types of B tier obscure games?

The 50 Wacky Jobs game seems like a very fitting recomendation.

Is basically Wario Ware game with a very ridiculous plot (in a good way) tying up the 50 minigame compilation. It seems well executed at the least.

Online I don't know but Gamestop often has stuff for less than $5 and occasionally offers B2G1 sales. They often have complete versions so it's much cheaper to get them in store than paying for individual shipping online. Though titles above $15 can sometimes be found cheaper online. A few Nintendo games are priced pretty high both in Gamestop and Amazon but I find Ebay will often have them much cheaper.

Seeing this thread makes me so happy here. I always remember people keep saying Wii don't have any game but see here, we actually had tons and tons of B class game which all of us loved so much on PS1,SNES and PS2 era.

I would add Let's Tap for the game there. So fun and crazy fun.

Uh.

Little King's Story has a really interesting conceit and artistic narrative twist, which is at the very least is a fun consideration of the mechanisms of playing make believe.

New Little King's Story is a harem simulator.

If for only this reason, New Little King's Story is a travesty.

Yes.

There are some real grand-slam winners there, like Mario Galaxy, Xenoblade, and Punch Out, but come on. You know that most of that list is skippable installments that have basically already been forgotten and lost to time.

You would be better off making the quality over quantity case.

Hey, no one called DKCR, Epic Yarn, Return to Dreamland,Rhythm Heaven Fever, Zangeki, Fire Emblem, Sin and Punishment and of course Endless Ocean skipable k! All of those are crazy good title.^-^

Unless I'm mistaken, you only have MLB Power Pros 08. IMO, I think the first game on the Wii is way better as far as the RPG part of the game goes.

I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't beg everyone to play No More Heroes 1 and 2

Fragile Dreams is also good if you can get past the Tag with Crow segment

de Blob is the only game I own for Wii that I rarely see mentioned on this forum. There's forced waggle and the camera can be iffy at times but it's probably my one of my favorite games form last gen for the OST alone.

ipTy7G4.jpg

Gonna throw my hat in the ring for de Blob and its sequel as well. Such a unique and inspired delight, with a flair that I think would appeal to anyone who's been enamored of Splatoon's art style as of late. It's a rock solid platformer with a simply beautiful presentation, the most impressive aspect of is being the dynamic background music which will actually change instruments and play licks based on which colors you paint with and when you paint with them. It's a shame Blue Tongue shuttered along with THQ shortly after, but Nordic bought the rights in 2014 and seemed pretty high on the property in interviews so I've got high hopes for another sequel.

Well, it looks like you guys got all the games I could care to mention! I'm particularly glad to see the de Blob love; it reminds me that I still need to pick up the sequel!

I remember enjoying the first DeBlob but... is the sequel really worth getting if you played enough of the first? I mean, is it literally just more of the same or does it have new features that make it a lot better?

Not obscure, but definitely underrated.

Try out Super Paper Mario. Don't pay any mind to internet reception. Whether you've played Paper Mario before or not, give it a try. Let us know how that works for you.
