What!?

I just woke up and now I read this......
To me as a Nintendo fan, he was one of the most important persons in the video game industry.

Rest in peace, Iwata.

Such awful and shocking news to wake up to. Iwata always seemed like a genuine and charming individual with a huge passion for the work he did. Always seems to be that the brightest lights burn out the quickest. :(

From a lifelong Nintendo fan, thank you for the massive contribution you played in many special years and moments for me. You'll be sorely missed.

Brawl in the Family came out of retirement to make this.

This really really gets to me man... :(

He is pretty much No. 2/3 at Nintendo for a couple of years now. If anyone can keep up the spirit it´s him. But it´s really not the day for that. I still believe i am having a bad dream.
But of course, I still can't process the news. He was so whimsical, so genuine in all his appearances that you'll never think something like this will happen until it does.

I can't believe how young he was. Younger than both my parents. That makes me sad in so many ways, feel for his family.

Him and Nintendo have been making millions of fans happy worldwide. It's nothing short of incredible if you think about it. He was and will continue to be universally loved.

I just didn't expect it, but you never do. RIP. Such a huge loss.

May you rest in peace, Mr. Iwata. You may be gone, but you will never be forgotten. Thank you for all that you have done over the years.

I'd like for at least one upcoming game to find a way to pay him tribute. I'm sure there will be Mario Maker levels created by players that do this but something official would be nice too. Or maybe at the end of Starfox Zero have a dedication of sorts in the credits with your traditionally amazing Nintendo themes.

This news hit me like a truck.

I honestly thought it was a joke, like there's no way it could be real... I honestly thought his health issues were over, and he was back to work. Seems he was just keeping the truth about how sick he really was under his (Mario-themed) hat. :-(

You know what? Fuck it, I'm buying a Wii U in his honor. Give Nintendo a chance to prove that I was wrong.

I hope whatever Nintendo's got cooking next achieves some success, so Iwata-san can see it from whatever Warp Zone he found himself in.

Hard to think of who will fill his boots, Nintendo have to be very carefull here as it make out break any sort of comeback they could make in the home console market

I wonder if miyamoto is okay.

I think it's safe to say the answer to that question is a resounding, "No."

But it's also safe to say that, as one of the interim managing directors for the corporation, he will do all that he can to make sure the everything that has been built won't be shattered like glass by Mr. Iwata's passing.

I don't know that it's possible to find someone with the combination of Iwata's ability to manage a company with his fierce belief in the power of game developers as artists.

Nintendo's going to be different no matter what happens now.

I'm sure some future games will be dedicated to Iwata. As for now, Miiverse is mourning him as well.

Well fuck. We lost one of the great ones :(

I got properly into console games fairly late (i.e. 2000s) so for me Iwata has always been the head of Nintendo.
