And now the tears are flowing.

wishes it were bannable to say mean things about Marvel
The thing is, as others have said, it is going to take months, perhaps years until we can all fully appreciate what Iwata has done in his last few months in order to get Nintendo on the right path as we slowly see the fruits of the seeds he has planted.

If I, or anyone else that I know, were given a prognosis such as the one Iwata had I would use the time I had to enjoy myself. Go travel the world, spend time with family etc. But Iwata spent his time trying to fix the problems in Nintendo and get his company back on the right path. I cannot imagine the selflessness that must have taken.

I'm going to have to stop as I'm choking up again.

Iwata loved what he did and he did it with an immense passion, no doubt about it. It showed in everything he did game development wise. He simply had a huge impact on Nintendo as a company for decades, and a Nintendo without him is a strange thing to contemplate for me. He died far too young IMHO, such a loss.

The Gay marriage celebration is a totally US centric thing. Gay marriage was already possible on many other parts of the world. Therefore while I didn't resent the rainbow logo and thought it was a nice touch, it has no real relevance to me or anyone else outside of the US (and obviously has no real relation to gaming). On an international gaming forum some form of celebration of Iwata should now take precedence.
I think the banner talk is silly personally. I've seen so many people discuss and comment on Iwatas passing with stories art poems etc. The industry and community knows who Satoru Iwata is and what hes done for gaming. Go play a video game and have fun instead argueing over a banner.

You can practically see Iwata driving his kart up Rainbow Road into the stars to be immortalized. God damnit, more misty eyes...

I may not have my Wii U anymore...but I think I'm going to take the day off work today. Go to an old ma and pa's game store and see if they have a copy of Super Mario Strikers sitting around...oooh! And maybe a copy of Twilight Princess for old time's sake, used of course, since I'm borrowing my parent's Wii for the time being, to play Mario Party 5 again.

Any banner should be in addition to the rainbow logo not at it's expense.

It is still vital to be celebrating the passing of gay marriage here at gaf, it is still too early and far too significant of a victory for our community to remove. Getting rid of the love banner this early when many around the net still proudly wear the rainbow color celebration of equality would not go well on the OT side.

We can still mourn Iwata and have something of remembrance of him in the banner without still celebrating the wonderful victory this community has recently had.

We've had the rainbow banner for weeks, nobody can really complain that it hasn't been recognised, I think just one day would be enough for any celebration/mark of respect.

F-fuck.

Holy shit it made me drop tears.

I should not have tried watching that at work. Nearly lost it when he said the white gloves make him feel kind of like Mario, had to go and hide in the toilets to get my composure back.

I lost my dad to cancer when he was 62, and that was too damn young. 55, good lord, that's terrible.

RIP.

He was so young, reading through the OP was quite upsetting. Such a great man, always smiling and putting others before himself. At least he's not in pain anymore but he's going to be missed so much.

In any farewells, all you have to say is "See you again".
Friends see each other again.
There's nothing strange about it.
Yes. See you again.

I heard that you are going on a long journey.
It was supposed to be in the far future.
You never said it in words, but wearing your best outfit, you were saying "Sorry for it to be so sudden".

You always looked after somebody instead of yourself.
As such friend, maybe this journey is your first time being selfish.

To be honest, I still don't really believe anything.
I feel like you'll be sending me email to ask for lunch.
Just like always, you can call me and ask "If you have some free time".
Of course, I can always ask you too.

Anyway, "See you again".
You can call me anywhere, anytime, and I'll be calling you too.
There are things I want to discuss, and good ideas I want to tell you.

See you again.
No, we are seeing each other right at this moment.

The only thing that I can say regarding this post that won't get me banned is this: don't.

I read Evilore's comment so I won't talk about this anymore, but I couldn't let this one pass unnoticed.

I read the news this morning and I was so devastated, I didn't know what to do. I felt like crying but tears wouldn't come. So I started drawing.

Nintendo has been and still is a major influence on my life and Mr. Iwata has been a huge part of that as well. If it weren't for Nintendo I would not be where I am right now. And I don't mean this just figuratively. My dream of becoming a video games translator was inspired by Nintendo and it's why I'm in Japan right now. I will probably make a trip to Kyoto next month and go pay my respects at Nintendo's HQ.

Thank you all the happy memories Iwata-san.

OH MY GOD. This is the closest I've got to crying for sure. I haven't cried in years and recently went through some emotional heavy stuff which amazed me in the lack of tears it produced, but this is hitting me so hard. Such beautiful heart wrenching words. " Although you may have been a little selfish for the first time ever by taking this journey." This is the line that almost made me lose it ;.;

A victory for equality is relevant for everyone I think. Especially in a country as developed and big as the US. And by going with this banner, it shows to people that neogaf is meant to be a place for people of all genders, sexualities and races. It represents the line of thinking to approach others as equals. And in that sense I think it is highly relevant (especially given some of the industries issues), even though I live in a country where this is already pretty normal (The Netherlands).

I want to leave the thread but where would I go...the warmth is so deep in here. This is bonding that Nintendo is all about... This is why we sat next to eat shouting and screaming and laughing from NES days on Super Mario Bros to SNES with Mario Kart...my gosh the N64 era where rooms full of friends gathered for Goldeneye and Smash...we lost a pioneer for FUN....a visionary of smiles...memories that worth more than money of any amount. Memories that take me back to a smile at any random time. The Melee savior...always in my HAL of memories...no longer Earthbound...on the rainbow to Dreamland...Ballons...sheesh...

A lot of you are just now waking up to see this, I've yet to go to sleep, and probably won't go to sleep tonight/this morning. I think I might just take a personal day/spontaneous vacation day off from work for when it finally hits me.
Literally in the same boat. Been up all night.

Pokemon Silver was the game that got me into Nintendo. I played it many years after it released though, because I mostly played on PlayStation when I was younger, but it convinced me to get a DS, and I've been a huge Nintendo fan ever since. It's strange Iwata's decisions really got me into Nintendo games and many other people too, I'm sure.

I don't really know what to say. He is such an important person. He will be missed.

World Wide Gaming Board.

One of our greats has passed... in my eyes, this over rules everything.

Just read the news over breakfast.
I'm still shocked.

My thoughts and prayers go to his loved ones.

As for the rest of the world, we lost a magic maker, a guy who arguably made the world a happier place.

Rest in peace Mr. Iwata.
