If it finally happens there had better be the classic camera angles, I don't have a problem with having an option for over the shoulder though. Bring back the burning mechanic and typewriters.
Also, Crimson Heads should totally come back, maybe have them mutate into Lickers if you leave their bodies unburned. That is canon after all, it would be cool to finally see it happen in a game.
Lastly it would be cool to go to new locations, and maybe some from Outbreak. The Zoo would be my choice.

I think the zoo would fit in better with a RE3 remake with its expanded focus on the city and its series of diverse, one-off, contained locations like the park and hospital.

REmake did a fantastic job adding new locations - and that's considering RE1 strictly took place in/on the grounds of a mansion. Hell, I can't think of a single addition to REmake I didn't like.
REmake2 has an entire Raccoon City at its disposal. Maybe the trek to the police station could be further/longer? I dunno, but it seems to me there is a much more expansive area to add to than in REmake. They just have to find the right balance.
The obvious problem with an RE2make is that it would be very easy to make the game worse.
REmake set a standard for remakes that no other port/re-imagining/remaster has met.
It stayed true to the original atmosphere and gameplay.
It added minor features to help general usability (quick turn, walking up stairs, defence items)
It restored areas of cut content and integrated them seamlessly into the existing experience. This made the game a fantastic experience for huge RE1 fans and new comers alike.
That last one is the tricky part. If you change RE2 in any way, you risk offending the fans. But if they stay too true to the original, then all you've done is upgrade the graphics.
I want them to take risks with an RE2make and not be afraid to make changes to story elements, the layout of the locations and the puzzles. It might end up being worse, but if they get it right then we could have another REmake on our hands. I want that way more than I want a prettier version of RE2.
Yeah the best part of REmake is that it went out of its way to subvert your memories of the original, and would fuck with you just when you thought you knew what would happen (example: dog hallway). It was just as good for new players as those who played RE1.

Yeah, I think going to more places on the way to the police station is a great idea, you're absolutely correct. REmake is amazing (greatest survival horror game ever for me) and they totally refreshed things the right way.
Wouldn't mind playing as Leon at the gas station at the very beginning of the game too. Maybe investigate stuff in the area to build up tension.
Man there's so much potential, I hope you can go to lots of places. And we get to see the final blob form of Birkin in HD haha!
In the comments, I see a lot of people mentioning "Chickenheart Brad." I know it's Brad Vickers, but I had always thought his nickname was Chickenheart Vickers. Is this a regional thing?
They need to expand on Sherri's role in Claire's scenario. Give the player the opportunity to take control of her more so than you did in the original game. Create new scenarios where she is the only one that can obtain certain items or access certain areas that will help Claire advance. Make her vulnerable to enemy attacks to really heighten the danger and force the player to advance cautiously.
I firmly believe that "H" is Kobayashi-san. He worked on the originals (1&2) as the prog lead and produced REmake, almost all mainstream Biohazard sequels (including CV/CVX), Devil May Cry (well, the original Biohazard "Action" game if you get the reference XD), Devil May Cry 4, Dino Crisis trilogy, and the Sengoku Basara games.
He's handled production for CPS4 since time immemorial. The only dark spots on his resume are P.N.03 and Dino Crisis 3 which till this date baffles me to greenlight, even the slightest of their concepts.
I hope they keep the same music, because that game had one of the creepiest horror music ever in a good way. What happened to that composer anyway? I havent heard of him anymore since he stopped doing the good old Resident evil music.
I think it would be better to have real 3D environments with static camera angles, so you can have true dynamic lighting. They redid a couple of the REmake backgrounds in 3D and they were as good as the pre-rendered.
I'm loving this new age of gaming where risk-adverse game publishers are starting to use social media to gauge interest in seemingly unprofitable games.

Man I hope there are lots of files to collect, and brand new written stuff too. I loved reading in RE2/3 about the citizens of Raccoon and what was happening. The one about the old guard watchman infected by the T virus was really cool. He ate bloody steaks to try to prevent himself from turning completely.
REmake should be their definitive blueprint regarding changes. Shuffle the keys around, change the order of the locks, add a few new rooms, a few different puzzles, and base any new areas around new story elements.
If they do go with new story elements -and I think they should- then I don't think they should pertain to Leon or Claire, because their stories and motives are pretty much complete. I'd be interested to know more about what happened with Chief Irons, the Mayor's daughter, and Mayor Warren himself, who hasn't done much in the series besides being a statue
containing an elevator battery for some reason
. And what with REmake's idea of re-using abandoned beta material, it might be fun to have Elza Walker pop up somehow. Making Mr X more scary would be awesome, because despite being great at surprising you, he's kind of a pushover.

Masami Ueda? He hasn't really done much of note afterwards, just Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe, Okami and the Bayonetta games. It'd be fantastic if they could somehow get him back, but it's more likely that Shusaku Uchiyama would be put on the project, considering he also contributed a reasonable amount to RE2's soundtrack and arranged some of it for Darkside Chronicles; as well as still continuing to work on the series - he's been on RE3, 4, Damnation, Mercenaries 3D, Operation Raccoon City and REmake; so he's probably the most consistent aspect to the franchise's music.
I wonder if they will add any rooms that make it more of a real police station, like toilets and a gun range. Basically, small elements from 1.5.
I want more zapping, too. On their Facebook post I thought of a Real Survival type mode where things like ammo and health are shared between A and B scenarios.
This is the first real remake I actually give a shit about, so I hope they don't ruin it.

How would you guys feel about Ada having her own game mode(something similar to Separate Ways in RE4)? I think it could really expand upon the story and break up the familiarity with the original game. Would add to the replay value as well.

Exactly the point. That's what was so cool about Separate Ways. It allowed you to experience the game from her POV. They could implement a similar mode in REmake2 so players can finally see what her journey entailed as Leon was embarking on his.

I disagree. You could spot those real time environments from a mile away with their low-poly assets, flat lighting and lack of detail. I stand by pre-rendered which is basically a free pass to have as much detail as you want without taxing the hardware. REmake HD is the probably the only recent game (and it was made 15 years ago) I recall that has pristine real-time reflections of your character on the environments (windows, wet floors, puddles, mirrors which actually factor in to the gameplay) Those little things are just too taxing when you're rendering everything hence why developers use baked cube maps or whatever for these type of effects.
Good idea. REmake and RE2 are among some of the best games ever. Even as a PS1 game, RE2 holds up remarkably well and I find myself replaying it yearly.
