Resident Evil 2 Remake pitched today

So the announcement is in the next year?

Please keep the classic touches ( typewriting - storage box - save rooms - and more importantly make it a miracle for us and use per-rendered backgrounds ).

What I hope for Ada's RE2 design/re(?)design:

This is her original model:
_resident_evil_2__ada_wong_xps_only____by_lezisell-d6sw5eo.png

Outfit is on point, it perfectly fits the "herp derp I'm a civilian looking for my bf L0lZ" but it's also practical for her acrobatics/spy stuff, but those ugly stockings are way too dark/thick that they look like legit pants under the dress. The shoes, while practical, are ugly and not sexy at all. She's supposed to be "mysteriously sexy," so high heels (although would be impractical) would be better suited.

Now, her updated RE2 model from RE4 (as a bonus costume for her):

What's good: stockings actually look like stockings and she has heels. As elegant as ever but WTF with the gun/ammo holsters all around her? Not to mention those combat gloves. If she says "I'm a civilian I have no idea what I'm doing!" to Leon he would probably slap her and would NOT ask her to wait anymore.

Now, her Operation Raccoon City model:

Same mistakes as the RE4 model but with one more thing: the heels were changed to combat boots. Those are practical for someone with her mission but they sure do look ugly. Nope pls.

Finally, her Umbrella Chronicles design, AKA the best:

They removed the obnoxiously placed gun holsters thank God, but the bullet ones/combat gloves are still there. I wish she wasn't injured and we could get her model in this outfit in her normal state.

I disagree. You could spot those real time environments from a mile away with their low-poly assets, flat lighting and lack of detail. I stand by pre-rendered which is basically a free pass to have as much detail as you want without taxing the hardware. REmake HD is the probably the only recent game (and it was made 15 years ago) I recall that has pristine real-time reflections of your character on the environments (windows, wet floors, puddles etc.) Those little things are just to taxing when you're rendering everything hence why developers use baked cube maps or whatever for these type of effects.

I'm not so sure that is a solid foundation for an argument. The team had to take into account the blurry backgrounds from the upscaled PNG files present in the rest of the game. I thought they did a good job on blending them in with the existing backgrounds without being too jarring.

I also found the real-time backgrounds to be among the best in the game, so I can't quite agree with you on that point. The underground area with the coffin, fire, and the masks looked excellent.

The team also had to account for the aging PS3 and 360 consoles which may not be a factor with this release.

Next-gen consoles and PC have enough overhead at this point that real-time backgrounds will look phenomenal and will have the advantage of being easier to scale to new platforms for continued revenue.

No way. Not only is it a seperate complete game that would take just as many resources to do justice too, but if REmake 2 does well, REmake 3 would be easy money as another $40-60 package to sell people. I think if people revisited it, they would realize how good the game is too.

I hope so. There's nothing I'd like more than the Resident Evil franchise to be successful, especially a game like RE2make, which would represent a continued interest in the classic Resident Evil style.

Maybe someday this will all lead to the RE4make.

I actually think it'd be kind of cool if they went the REmake route and took the core game and added some new things. Maybe they could insert some things with improvements from 1.5 back in RE2?

I'd really like it to be on the RE6 mechanics/engine. Of course that won't happen. How ironic people who want it as REmake yet complain about you know, tank controls. Which there is NOTHING wrong with tank controls.

I'd rather they remake 3. But whatever..

RE2 Bitch Ada is the best Ada.

RE6 Romantic Ada is the worst Ada.

She needs to retire though, Jessica is coming through.

Of course a PopGaffer WOULD like bitchy Ada.

Personally RE4 Ada is the best Ada. Professional, cocky, sarcastic, sexy, romantic and all around certified badass.

Jessica is probably my second fave character in the series, but nope, she's got a loooong way to go before becoming Ada's successor.

Ironic nothing.

I'd wager the majority of the people who want it to be faithfully in the style of REmake (and have wanted it for years) embrace tank controls.

Tank controls for life
on survival horror games :D

The level design in Resident Evil 2 is so realized that any changes they make to encounters or game progression will not bog down the game in a significant way.

Same here, but I think it's because I got burned out on 2 by its design (finish the game at least 4 times for the playable unlockables).

I'd still buy REmake 2 if it got made, but I wouldn't at all expect it to be at the level that REmake 1 was (at least not without additional funding from somewhere). This is a far different Capcom.

I wouldn't say there's anything wrong with tank controls (and all the more power to people who prefer them), but having the option to not use them (an option which is already in the original release of RE2) certainly wouldn't hurt and I would sure as shit complain if it wasn't included in the remake.

I still don't believe it's going to happen. Would cost a ton of money to do correctly, and Capcom has been cheap as fuck lately.

Real talk: The game should have both modern third-person camera and classic static camera gameplay.

RE5 Lost in Nightmares proved it could work.

To me it seems like they are headed back slowly but surely in the right direction with Sega creeping up behind them as well. I mean at least they aren't Konami tier at the moment.

Yeah I might too. Ah well. One day..

This was the writing on the wall post the success of BiohazardHD. They could alternate yearly releases with REmakes (now that Zero is confirmed to be 2016) , Spinoffs (Revelations, ORC, Outbreak & File #2 REmake / HD ? , Gun Survivor etc) and then the mainstream shooters like 7 which we all expect most probably this TGS.

Also, once this officially gets greenlit (probably announcement at TGS too), that fanmade version by those Italian devs on Unreal4 will get the banhammer I reckon ?

Sadly, not really. Aiming becomes really hard in fixed camera gameplay because the mechanics are designed for over-the-shoulder style of gameplay, I mean, the game even forces you to switch back to third person the moment you leave the mansion.

what?!

I don't think she says a nice word to leon in the whole game, basically she plays him like a fool once again.

Ada RE2 fell in love with Leon in that game, and they even kissed.

Basically you got that backwards.

Can be easily fixed by changing the mechanics completely to reflect the camera style. Package the game using both gameplay styles while using the same assets. Easy money and keeps all RE fans satisfied.

This is the room your referring to shown in it's original state at 0:47 and the new version at 1:09.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZ2UHHfvyyY

Aside from resolution/sharpness the original looks way better. The way the lighting reacts looks more realistic. The shadows creep into full darkness where the light doesn't hit, while the new one looks like some dark beams of hard shadows overlaid on a room that has flat/even lighting all across (which btw is way too bright for something being light by a fire). Look at how the cog sticks out in the new one, almost as if it's glowing at times. The geometry looks better in the original as well. Listen to what he says at 1:26. The game would look soulless if done completely like this.

The rooms in REmake and RE0 HD have more detail than all the 3D RE games that came afterward. Even if you can run RE5 at 4k on it's later PC release, it still falls flat against the amount of detail the game with pre-rendered backgrounds had. Look at RE5 lost in Nightmares for a comparison of the mansion made in 3D.
It doesn't look better.

Why would it cost a ton? A lot of the game is already basically done (story, world and character design, enemies etc.) so they don't have to start from scratch.

The production on the original REmake started in the beginning of 2001 and the game was released in March 2002.

Or just bring back auto lock-on (for fixed camera mode only of course). Totally broke enemies playing dead/hiding off-screen, lol.

Playing Resident Evil 2 one weekend with my cousin and a friend on his PS1 is one of my greatest gaming memories. My Mom rented it for us, and we were blown away/scared while playing it.

It was a great weekend.

I don't think we beat it, though, and when I rented it for N64 I don't think I beat it either. So I'd be up for this remake.

Does no one actually remember this? LOL. Leon is the fool and holds the L in 6,4, and 2.

Ada got him on a goddamn leash

Ohmygodohmygodohmygod.
Don't fuck this up Capcom.
Don't change a thing about the camera and the controls and just add new zones and we are good. Here is the twist the H actually stands for Hideki.

Read about this yesterday. This is arguably the best in the series. I want a remake more than any other game.

Holy crap if this gets approved. RE2 is one of my favourite games of all time. After last E3 you gotta believe it can happen.
