Crackdown 3 Gameplay First Look

Should probably listen to what he says at the last few seconds.
It's a tech demo and not representative of the final gameplay

Heh, interpretation and how people fill in the blanks differently is a funny thing.. My interpretation would be about the gameplay stuff and details you don't see in that tech demo that will obviously be in the final game, not that the destruction itself will be worse.

What I'm thinking now is: with my awful 6mb connection, I'll be able to play in multy with a decent ping? Or "the cloud" will be too much for me?

The data actually being transferred isn't that bandwidth heavy. Its just positional data. The heavy workload is calculating what the positional data should be.

There's just a couple of native res screenshots in the Gamescom press kit.

Holy shit at the aliasing, there's some serious upscaling going on there doctor.

I had no idea they're using multiple remote servers for each game world. I'm surprised MS would let them do that, honestly.

Yeah, devs should realize that armchair developers with eagle eyes, judging alpha footage of a game, are permanently watching and looking for things to show others how good they are at spotting things and so should focus on iq more than any other thing when releasing their stuff.

What does? The alpha footage compared to a completely finished and released game? Amazing!

Yeah, the footage they have shown so far. If you have an unfinished product, don't fucking show it to the public?

I can't remember seeing alpha footage of Sunset looking like a PS2 game.

I see, so players should feign acute blindness les they anger other players on a gamin forum? WTH, there's incredibly jarring aliasing on those direct feed shots. You may be fine with it, but does that mean I should too?

I thought the original Crackdown was mediocre and the sequel was garbage but this looks like they are understanding what the positives were of the franchise. I just love how every trailer has an agent running through an orb.

Stop trolling. It does not look like a PS2 Game.

Stawp seriously, people need to go back and actually play last gen and PS2 games and then tell me those graphics are at that level. It is beyond absurd.

Did they make the buildings out of popsicle sticks? That's an awful lot of destruction that can be done with an assault rifle.

He said they made the gun more powerful for the sake of the demo. Otherwise that level of destruction would take all day with an AR.

'Why do developers show things early, these graphics/animations/whatever are horrible!'

'Hah, they're not even showing anything off, I knew the cloud was a lie!'

That destruction tech looks great though, well beyond anything I've seen in any game. It's good to see they're trying to push as many boundaries as possible, and then letting the game use it as it sees fit. Crackdown is at its best when its a sandbox.

It is of no use to complain about aliasing in _alpha_ footage. The game wasn't shown to present the graphics or iq in any way.
The question is why you are not fine with it.

I'm not. Tell me this picture accurately represents a current gen game.

I assume the level of geometry that can be destroyed doubles as many more polys on the screen. For regular open world games, houses and buildings are just empty squares with a skin on top of them. They are not individual, destructable parts with their own lighting, effects, physics and so on.

Secondly, the sheer size of explosions, and destruction you can do would take it's toll on the hardware as well. It makes sense that they would dial a lot of things back to be able to meet a smooth performance threshold.
It's most likely also why they have sticked to the cartoon filter.

It's not a good point you're trying to make, I'm afraid.

Obviously he's talking about the lack of actual 'game' in his demonstration. He was showing off the games tech, but there were no goals or enemies on display, and the weapons were OP for the sake of showcasing how destruction works... There's no reason to anticipate they are going to walk back the physics calculations...

Right, let's undermine all of the technical achievements of this pre-alpha game in motion, by critiquing a still shot... Because you know, we all play games at 0 fps.

Show me a ps2 game that can do this... Better yet, show me a current gen game that can do this...

xxracerxx

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
I hope that in the final game the buildings don't just look like building blocks stacked together to knock down.

The game is pre-alpha, come on. Especially with something this new, you make sure that works first and then make it pretty. Its pretty much a proof of concept of the functionality in the crackdown world. Theres nothing in the world and it obviously isn't representative of the graphics of the final game.

Glad I wandered back into this thread today. The initial trailer was pretty underwhelming, but seeing this gif and the demo video got me hyped.

Didn't get the memo regarding the 14th Amendment
Can you imagine when this tech is ported to other games?

Like Halo MP?

The thing is, they could easily do this since multiplayer would be online anyway. Crackdown is the first real example of "the cloud" being used to offset things like physics, and it seems like the online portion will feature this destruction while the singleplayer will feature scaled back destruction -- I think that's a nice compromise for people who don't want games to be online only, and games with a dedicated multiplayer may even be more suited to it than Crackdown (but hopefully Crackdown's singleplayer and online campaigns feel different enough so that the singleplayer doesn't seem like it's missing something the online has).

Microsoft really has an opportunity here with Azure. I didn't believe it before, but this is real proof of something technically impressive, at least.

So its gone from laughing at what Microsoft promise, to saying the game looks bad In this pre-alpha stage. Never stop gaf.

Seems some will latch on to whatever they can to downplay Xbox related content. Its actually getting pretty sad now.
Pre-alpha footage used to show off the cloud tech we have been hearing about and, as it turns out, is pretty bloody impressive. Can only imagine where else this can be used if it works as well as it is being shown here!!
