Wow, a lot of you guys seem excited for these games! Let me let you in on a really big secret.

Go turn on your PS3.
You can play these right now! No waiting! You can probably buy them super cheap!

I know, right? The PS4 is so awesome the games are out years before they're released!

*Turns on PS3*

Oh look! Yellow light of death! I guess console hardware isn't immortal like that guy on Neogaf said!

That's pretty bad news...When I buy a new console, it's to have new games. They should have included the backward compatibility on their console like Microsoft or Nintendo !

Now that I think about it....I don't think I ever fought that thing on my playthrough

Fun fact: ps3 remasters in no way affect ps4 games. At all. Third party studios are hired to come in and work on these games while the first party studios continue to work on their games.

The more you know.

couldnt they hire those third party studios and give them an original IP to work on instead or the ps4?

I kind of agree I am tired of remasters at least xbox gives you the option of backwords compatibility

Sony seems to be living off these remasters lately. Is there a first party studio releasing an actual new game for Sony this entire year? My mind is drawing a blank atm.

Bloodborne. From Software+ Sony Japan

Sony's first party has been lacking this generation, but Bloodborne is an excellent game. Horizon and Uncharted looks good too, hopefully both out in 2016

The only games which need remasters are Bethesda/Platinum and most open world games from PS3 era. First party titles on the other hand ran just fine and still looks good today. There's no need for remasters just give us BC. Too bad it will most likely not happen since remasters are cheap way to make easy money.

About the only sony game i want remastered from last gen is wipeout. Even then i would much prefer and built from the ground up version. Wish they had never gotten rid if the devs , maybe the evo guys might give it a crack.

Please ..

Fun fact: developers only have so much in the budget for development so when you pay a third party money goes to them instead of in house development. So less development work on new games. Also because they make so much *profit* on just putting out the same stuff over and over by porting they are less willing to take risks. And why bother if they can pay their bills doing easier stuff, I don't blame them.

The more you know.

Firstly, ummm, the first party studios aren't actually PAYING for the games. Its Sony, MS, Nintendo, lol. You think ND is paying Bluepoint to make the Uncharted collection? Lol. So don't worry, no money is leaving ND to make Uncharted 4. Hell, if anything, Sony is giving ND MORE budget. They delayed the game by months so they could make it better. Delaying=more money you have to spend.

Also, I have absolutely no idea what you mean by the second part, so I can't respond to that.

Of course they affect PS4 games.

May I suggest you read up on the companies doing the remasters. Look at their portfolios and you judge. I'll start you off.

Some of those third party studios are porting studios. They don't make new games, that's not their type of business.

Plus, developing new IPs is a lot more costly and risky than porting existing games. You need bigger teams, longer development times, and there's always the possibility that it won't turn out well.

No, I don't think the major publishers would give big checks to High Voltage Games, Wholesale Algorithms, Virtuos Games, etc. to make new IP.

This type of stuff really pollutes the discussion.

Day One for Demon's Souls.

Wouldn't surprise me if they release a remaster roughly around when Dark Souls 3 drops, ala Scholar of the First Sin and Bloodborne earlier this year.

It's not stopping new games from coming out and some of these remasters actually help fund sequels for existing franchises.

Sony is also in a much more problematic spot than MS and Nintendo when it comes to backward compatibility, which is understandable due to the setup of the PS3's architecture.

I know 3D support isn't really a thing anymore, but if they remaster SotC, again, I really hope they consider it. The effect on the ps3 remaster was great, but unfortunately the framerate couldn't keep up.

It doesn't affect games from their first party studios, but it affects other exclusives. Instead of looking for a third party studio to work on an IP they own, they just remaster an old game. Same with digital titles, there's only such much a publisher wants to release in a year. Realising digital games makes them release less retail games too. Just look how many games they used to release in their PS2 and PS3 days and compare that to what we have now.

Yep they just hand them checks to half ass ports for a quick buck. Yay...

yeah well welcome to 2015.

They're not the same set of studios. The PS2 got a ton of releases because the industry was vibrantly healthy and software development costs were much lower. Retail AAA releases are lower this gen because of escalating costs and reduced risk appetite, not because Sony/Activision/Square/Ubisoft/EA/Microsoft/etc are asking porting studios to port old titles (they are symptoms of the same disease, but one is not causal of the other). These porting studios would not otherwise be tasked with new IP. They'd just be doing wetwork on other games, like Tri-ace or Silicon Knights or something.

edit: The PS2 was also at its peak before a massive wave of industry consolidation.

well in that case sadly ms gives the option of bc

Thats good for MS. They have great engineers and are able to do it.

Sony can not. The PS3 was a nightmare to develop for. Being able to some how port that system to the PS4 is probably extremely difficult.

So, it sounds like a Warhawk PS4 Remaster is coming then, right?

It would be so fantastic. Even taking that engine, and rebuilding a new Warhawk would be great. I think the world is ready for more Warhawk.

This is sort of pathetic.

I have nothing against them remastering PS3 games but when you consider the drought of actual PS4 exclusives at the moment this is a bit stupid.

What drought? They've released more PS4 exclusives than the other first party companies this year.

of course its good for ms but bad for sony in certain perspectives, they were really short sighted with the cell

Next to no one would buy it since it would be too expensive compared to the no BC model.

Dude, you are comparing dev costs and time to creating a triple AAA game on the PS4 to a triple AAA game on PS2.

Why not ask why Nintendo has less first party games on the WiiU than they do on the NES. Can you explain that?

First party? MLB 2015 and Until Dawn, I guess?

Japan Studio and SSM co-worked on Bloodborne and The Order respectively

Sony spent alot of money in cloud and psnow, they have no incentive to provide anything for free. Ps4 is already selling well, if xbox wasnt so far behind i doubt they would make the effort either (which is why it was not announced day1 )

No doubt sony could research into backwards compatability but then they would be shooting themselves in the foot.

Having said that as an xbox owner im really glad they did do bc and would love if sony followed suit, but it will never happen.

But it isnt because their studios haven't been working on games. The timing was just bad where a lot of studios released games very late in the PS3 life cycle. Now most of those studios have PS4 games in development. Next year is huge for PS4 exclusives.

Also I wouldnt say there has been a drought of PS4 exclusives, there have been a decent amount already, it's just that most of them weren't as good as people had hoped.

WipEout HD/Fury and Valkyrie Chronicles are the only games I want on PS4 from the last gen...and maybe Tales of Vesperia.

PS2 games though I want more than I can list.

Sony could easily match ms backwards compatabilty by checking ure ps3 licenses and letting you stream those games through psnow , its not ideal but is workable, but i doubt they will do it.

Please give us socom 2!!! It's the biggest hole in my gaming life right now, playing it on PS2 with xlink is so troublesome. I miss the glory days!

Psn already struggles , imagine if everyone as downloading full blueray games.

I don't think you know how PS Now works.

edit: Did you mean streaming instead of downloading?
