Sony Says It’s ‘Very Likely’ More Remasters Are Coming

I don't think Motorstorm is achievable at 60fps on PS4 without a hell lot of caring and loving , also known as high development costs (please see The Last of Us remake presentation).

Depends on what you want. If they just port the PS3 game with updated resolution and framerate, and doesn't touch textures or anything then it's probably possible without issue.

(and in general that's what we should expect, and not full on remakes of games just released in the past six years)

Huh? It already runs and looks fantastic on ps3. I don't disagree that it should have gotten more attention, but it's not a brilliant game trapped behind a shitty framerate or anything. (lookin at you dragon's dogma.)

Having it available on a modern console would be enough for most people. If I ever wanted to replay that game, I would need to go buy a new PS3 and replay it. Sony having the game available with no extra work done on it would be enough for me at least. Just having it available.

Red Dead Redemption and Demon Souls.

Really don't think Sony has any say on what business decisions Take-Two/Rockstar should make.

They're not the same set of studios. The PS2 got a ton of releases because the industry was vibrantly healthy and software development costs were much lower. Retail AAA releases are lower this gen because of escalating costs and reduced risk appetite, not because Sony/Activision/Square/Ubisoft/EA/Microsoft/etc are asking porting studios to port old titles (they are symptoms of the same disease, but one is not causal of the other). These porting studios would not otherwise be tasked with new IP. They'd just be doing wetwork on other games, like Tri-ace or Silicon Knights or something.

edit: The PS2 was also at its peak before a massive wave of industry consolidation.

Dude, you are comparing dev costs and time to creating a triple AAA game on the PS4 to a triple AAA game on PS2.

Why not ask why Nintendo has less first party games on the WiiU than they do on the NES. Can you explain that?

I'm not talking about AAA, I'm talking about Retail. Considering the fact that they should have more studios working for PS4 than for PS3 (Vita is dead), they should have released more games. The only games they have released for working with other developers are (as far as I know) Bloodborne, Until Dawn and The Order. That's far less than PS3 in its first years, and they don't even have to dedicate resources to a handheld anymore.

I guess Demon's Souls and some Vita games.

Wipeout 2048 at 60 fps would be cool. Maybe even with 4k or Morpheus support

Delaying Uncharted 4 etc. to early 2016 may have been a good call on that front. This holiday is looking pretty crowded and Sony really nailed it by getting extra support from EA, Activision and Ubisoft etc when it comes to early and exclusive content.

The holidays are always crowded, but this year is just insane.

Also, releasing exclusives during the holidays for sake of doing so is never a good idea. LittleBigPlanet 3 definitely comes to mind. Yes, its genre breaks it away from the pack, but that didn't help much. Not to mention, the bugs in the game were also a minus.

The PS3 version of Wipeout with Fury would be even better.

People definitely need to temper their expectations though - like those asking for Red Dead?

I doubt thats how it worked honestly. Having less competition can only help it too. Probably benefits both not releasing so close to one another considering their similarities.

Well im pretty sure thats exactly how it worked. And now it launches two weeks after Halo and sandwiched right between COD and Battlefront. I suppose it has less direct TPS competition, but they also are missing out on PS4 and PC sales, which combined with lots of buyers being tapped out after the holiday release slam, makes it highly unlikely MS footing a chunk of the bill will make up the difference. Not to mention the brand damage from the PR shitstorm.

Loving all Demons Souls mentions...also want Dark Souls I: Scholar of the Last Sin.

Or I guess Dark Souls Trilogy would be awesome once the third releases...

The only games which need remasters are Bethesda/Platinum and most open world games from PS3 era. First party titles on the other hand ran just fine and still looks good today. There's no need for remasters just give us BC. Too bad it will most likely not happen since remasters are cheap way to make easy money.

Plenty of first party titles ran under 60 and had frequent drops. Plus, they use the inferior DS3 controller.

Would much, MUCH rather a new Siren than a remake of BloodCurse, which is a short reimaging of the original, its like a GT prologue compared to a full fledged GT game.
Man id love a new Siren game. Just 100%'ed part 1 for PS2 last week (gotta be up there with hardest games ever made), about to start the second. Bloodcurse is like a demo in comparison to part 1. A new Siren would be sweet, a remake of BloodCurse isnt even needed, the game holds up visually on PS3 too.

It's the first two I have in mind. A third title would be amazing.

I bought my PS4 to play PS4 games, not PS3 games. I'm kind of tired of this remaster generation

There are plenty of ps4 games as well. I am glad for remasters. Never played uncharted and now i get all 3 games for 60 bucks. Amazing. I say keep them coming.

Just give me a Level 5 remaster collection Sony:

Dark Cloud
Dark Cloud 2
Rogue Galaxy

And a second volume: Ni No Kuni, White Knight Chronicles 1, and White Knight Chronicles 2.

Bonus Jeanne D' Arc for added day 1 purchase action.

I can't think of any Sony published games that would need a remaster. Killzone, Resistance, inFamous series on PS3 were great at the time but I don't think I would care to play these games again. And to people who have never played those I don't think people are missing much. I would however like a Twisted Metal remaster. Simply because I know we would never get a sequel. They can also add planned DLC arenas of old Twisted Metal games as well as fixing the broken online.

With the potential of it, I thought we would definitely get it on the PS4 at launch. Sony shot themselves in the foot with that move.
Hmmm...I see this often, but you know what, I'm just gonna say it. Puppeteer wasn't that good.

I think reviews were overly nice because it was so unique and aesthetically pleasing. But for a platforming game where the genre is often about about challenging the player, didn't do much at all for me after appreciating the art style for a few hours of play.

Don't think a remaster would do much of anything sale wise, but if they do make one, I certainly hope I'm wrong.

With the lack of games, it would've been something nice to tag with the PS4. I purchased a PS4 at launch and I didn't purchase one game with it lol. I was interested in Puppeteer but I wasn't going to buy it on PS3 simply because I have an original 60gb that sounds like a jet taking off lol.

Give me a Resistance trilogy collection similar to The Master Chief Collection. All three game's single player and my multiplayer in one package. Throw in Resistance Retribution too.

You can leave out Burning Skies.

3D Dot Game Heroes would be cool.

This needs to happen.

This is getting to be absurd. I didn't buy a ps4 to play higher resolution games that I already played. I wasn't impressed with the Last Of Us Remastered and won't be supporting any more of these remasters. I just think it sends a wrong message to the publishers.

Well, I think most of the old canards are on display, and whatever, people will say whatever they want. I think the one thing we do need to be concerned about is how people have a predilection to spend money on franchises they are comfortable with and, to some extent, games they already know are good. There is a strong temptation for many I would imagine to repurchase God of War 3 instead of New IP A given the risk involved in buying New IP A.

Normally, I'd say this would be a pretty big problem. With this gen in particular, however, it seems like there are so few new titles on shelves that it's not necessarily as big of a problem as it would have been in say the PS2 era, where a remaster of RE2 would be going up against Devil May Cry.

In other words, I feel like they have the potential to suck the air out of the room at retail more than they do at the greenlight stage.
I just see this as having Lawrence of Arabia on bluray, frankly.

Killzone 2 (this really needs to happen)
Motorstorm trilogy
Resistance trilogy
Gravity Rush and some Vita games

I'd rather want a remake of Demon's Souls than a remaster.

Warhawk should be rebooted.

WipEout needs a sequel.
