Sony Says It’s ‘Very Likely’ More Remasters Are Coming

Fun fact: ps3 remasters in no way affect ps4 games. At all. Third party studios are hired to come in and work on these games while the first party studios continue to work on their games.

The more you know.

Don't think that was true of the Last of Us or Halo MCC so...

I really want Demon's Souls with better image quality and 60 fps.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
Meh. More new games please. I completely see the appeal of remasters, but I want to see what developers like Blue Point can do with a new game.

I just wanted a complete collection for mass effect. But that doesn't look like it's happening. I don't mind remasters at all. Ratchet and clank PS3 ones would be cool I suppose.

EDIT: ah yes, Red Dead Redemption for sure.

I'm happy for remasters to appear but isn't using the success of The Last of Us a bit misleading as it was at the end/ beginning of gens.

True, but Naughty Dog worked on The Last of Us Remastered because it helped them cut their teeth on the PS4 hardware without having to start from scratch. It didn't hinder them from developing Uncharted 4, it more than likely helped the team produce the game we're seeing right now, at the level that they are doing.

Remasters just aren't a bad thing for the industry at all. They aren't being made for the folks that have beat them a dozen times and have a shiny platinum trophy on their PS3's. They're making them for all of the new folks that didn't own a PS2 or PS3, and missed out on a ton of stuff.

I'm not the biggest Xbox fan, but I owned an Xbox and a 360. Even so, I missed out on a lot of games, especially when my 360 died. When I get an Xbox ONE eventually, it's going to be great to be able to pick up remasters, or play some older games on the system in between waiting for the new titles to finish production.

And then there are just some games I adore from the last few generations that I want to play on my shiny new hardware. Considering how good The Last of Us and God of War 3 remastered are on the PS4, I have to say I prefer playing this older games with rock solid frame rates and improved/enhanced visuals and controls (Playing PS3 games with the Dual Shock 4 is almost most price of admission alone, considering how much of a step up that controller is to the DS3).

This is getting to be absurd. I didn't buy a ps4 to play higher resolution games that I already played. I wasn't impressed with the Last Of Us Remastered and won't be supporting any more of these remasters. I just think it sends a wrong message to the publishers.

Then don't buy them.

For everyone else, there's the option to play games people constantly say are classics. Not everyone keeps one of every console generation at hand, and having the option to play games they missed out on in the previous gen is a super nice option.

And for those who want to replay a game they liked, they have a option to play it at better resolution and on a single console. And if you don't like it, then you don't have to buy it.

It's not like these resources are greatly diminishing first party efforts. Most of these remasters are either farmed out to other developers or have a small amount of in studio devs.

Those are still resources that could be used to make actually new games. In fact I'd argue that they could be used to make a smaller, lower-budget game, which is what the PS4 is lacking in.

Great. I want to play the Resistanance games as I never got the chance and don't want to play them on the PS3.

What's left of big Sony AAA franchises?

It would be cool if they would bring some of the PS3 Remasters to PS4 with a quick and dirty port like the Team ICO games. Just give me a option to play them on a modern platform.
Remasters don't only have to be done to the most obvious games. Something like Puppeteer deserves another chance.

Im almost certain ICO, SOTC will be coming at some point before TLG. Might be a stop gap remaster to make up for a delay or something like Uncharted collection before UC4.

ICO and SotC are on PS Now (playing SotC now), so I'm not sure if they're coming

Demon's Souls Remastered would be pretty boss.

If we're going back to the PS2 era then give me Dark Cloud 1+2 Remastered as well.

This is sort of pathetic.

I have nothing against them remastering PS3 games but when you consider the drought of actual PS4 exclusives at the moment this is a bit stupid.
There are going to be more PS3 remasters than new exclusives.
guess it's going to be a slow generation for new games.
When you consider the drought of actual PS4 exclusives at the moment and upcoming, you discover it doesn't exist and has the most exclusives of any console.

I like remasters personally, but to play devils advocate, for people saying outside contractors are used for these and not wastinf an internal devs time, a budget is made for this, which could be appropriated for other things. There isnt an infinite budget.
Successful remasters also make money for new remasters and riskier new IP, of which there's lots coming from SCE.

If only Sony started selling us a console that allowed people to play PS3 games. Why dont they do that?
I don't think you thought this through.

I kind of only want to see remastered collections from now on, individual games just seems like taking advantage of gamers. If you like them that's fine, no one has the right to tell you what to spend your money on, but I would like to see people getting some real value for gaming projects where 80-90% of the work has already been done.

Also the idea that they subsidise new games is asinine, this industry should be supporting successful projects, consumers should not be getting shafted to shore up companies poor business choices.

They are funding plenty of smaller scale releases. Resogun. Alienation. Rime. Everybody's gone to the Rapture. Hohokum. Entwined. Helldivers. Tearaway. The Tomorrow Children. Kill Strain. What Remains of Edith Finch. Shadow of the Beast. Fat Princess Adventures. Drawn to Death. Wattam. RIGS. etc.

What about Helldivers, Rapture, N++, and Galak-Z? All smaller games Sony put out this year

Since no new MotorStorm is going to be made, I'd be okay with a MotorStorm: Pacific Rift remaster IF there was online.

Considering how many people are after a remaster of Red Dead Redemption, I wonder if Sony could make a deal with Rockstar to bring it to the PS4.

This is currently one of the most requested games for the Xbox One 360 BC list, but Rockstar would make a killing releasing a remaster.

I'm alright with this.

I was a 360 guy for most of last gen, so I missed out on a lot of PS3 exclusives.

As long as they match the quality of TLOU and GOW3 remastered, count me in.

I hope they can fund third party remasters like the Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia or Tomb Raider Trilogy... I heard rumors that quite a few people like to see Mass Effect on current gen consoles. So, why not?

A good remaster of a single game can still take 12+ months to develop and they don't necessarily always sell gangbusters. A franchise like Halo can get something like MCC for 60$ because it's almost guaranteed to sell a shitton of copies (and because they rushed that shit out and did a horrible job with it to save costs, instead of taking their time with each remaster to do them right)

Also the idea that they subsidise new games is asinine, this industry should be supporting successful projects, consumers should not be getting shafted to shore up companies poor business choices.
Pray do tell who is getting shafted by these remasters? If you don't want some remaster, don't buy it. It really is as simple as that, stop whining like a little baby about them.

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch
Not surprise. They are the only one with no backward compatibility.
