Oh this drought of games! Until Dawn, Tearaway, Everybody Goes To The Rapture, Sengoku Basara 4, Tomorrow Children, and Sony exclusive stuff like Dragon Quest Heroes!

Oh how you tease us, Sony, by promising games and not releasing anything outside my constantly extending goalposts!

Those are still resources that could be used to make actually new games. In fact I'd argue that they could be used to make a smaller, lower-budget game, which is what the PS4 is lacking in.
2-3 remasters per year is not going to make that much of a difference in how Sony spends their money on smaller projects.

Not surprise. They are the only one with no backward compatibility.
A remaster can be the definitive edition with added polish, adjustments and even content whereas b/c usually, at best, gives you the exact same game, and too often a worse experience.

Yea, I'm always down for remasters depending on the game.

Still blindly hoping for a Dragon's Dogma PC port/remaster. All my money, take it.

No. Especially if they're running worse then the 360 versions.

The whole point of remasters is to experiencee the game at a higher frame rate and resolution.
Most of bc games run at the same or a bit better, also the whole point of remaster isto charge you to be able play your old games. Ports like gears ue or metro redux are to give you a modern experience

Don't think that was true of the Last of Us or Halo MCC so...
Pretty sure Halo MCC was almost completely outsourced. To several different studios. That's why it's such a shitty remaster.

And IIRC, Naughty Dog said the Last of Us remaster was beneficial for them because they learned a lot about PS4 development by doing it. That it would help them with the development of their first PS4 game.

No one forces anyone to buy games you already own. If playing old games is that important to you, then why in hell do you even get rid of your old consoles? Especially when it was no secret that X1 and PS4 wouldn't have (full) b/c.

This is sort of pathetic.

I have nothing against them remastering PS3 games but when you consider the drought of actual PS4 exclusives at the moment this is a bit stupid.

I have to agree with this, even though I've been very pleased with the remasters so far. I bought remasters of PS2 games last generation as well, so I'm not opposed to the actual practice, but it's disappointing when that's all that's on offer.

Just in the last month or so we've had The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Rocket League, Galak-Z, N++, Godzilla, God of War 3 Remaster and more. And then in a few weeks you've got Until Dawn and Everybody's Gone to Rapture. But of course, there's a drought, and only Fall ever matters anyway...oh and only exclusives too. Multiplatform and indie games don't count, unless we're talking about every other release period besides Fall? I don't even know any more...More goalposts and variables than one can care to remember.

I think the remaster trend is great. By far the least annoying of the new 'monetization minded' innovations in gaming.

Content is content. If a game's fundamentals are strong enough that it's fun generations later, by all means remaster that shit with better presentation, IQ, and resell it at a lower cost.

Zone of the Enders collection on ps4 in 4K/60 for 20 bucks? (theoretically?) Yes I would.

Don't blame Sony for having such a limited taste in games or asinine way of dividing "worthy" games or being ignorant of all the games that have actually been released, if you think there has been any kind of drought.

Most remasters do tweak the gameplay to give you a modern experience.

I would pay $300 for a Demon's Souls remaster. Still the best souls game.

Oh, and Wipeout HD Fury and also Motorstorm Pacific Rift.

I'll take them. I'll take them all.

Seriously, as someone with a huge library of PS3 games that I have yet to finish nor open, I would much prefer to play a remastered version, if it became available.

A good remaster of a single game can still take 12+ months to develop and they don't necessarily always sell gangbusters. A franchise like Halo can get something like MCC for 60$ because it's almost guaranteed to sell a shitton of copies (and because they rushed that shit out and did a horrible job with it to save costs, instead of taking their time with each remaster to do them right)

Pray do tell who is getting shafted by these remasters? If you don't want some remaster, don't buy it. It really is as simple as that, stop whining like a little baby about them.

Dev time of 12 months when average games take 3+ years to develop? That's a massive time saving and time is what costs game development.

I don't buy any remaster I think is poor value, but my point was I want better value for gamers who do. I tend to side with consumers over corporations, and will happily point out when people should be getting a better deal.

Yes that Is all that's on offer there are no other games at all.

Remasters, re-releases, and F2P games are becoming more & more necessary to fund the ever increasing development and marketing costs of AAA projects. Talk shows, syndication rights , and reality TV serve a similar purpose for television networks -- low cost, low risk, and all but guaranteed to make money.

A lot of this stuff is outsourced to smaller studios which, big picture, is also good for the overall health of the industry.

If they are good and games I haven't played before I'll get em. I don't like to double dip but I did for GTA V since the new consoles came out so soon after and I didn't give it a good shot on 360.

Fun fact: ps3 remasters in no way affect ps4 games. At all. Third party studios are hired to come in and work on these games while the first party studios continue to work on their games.

/star swipe

The more you know.

Hence all those 1st party games left and right this year, right? Still, I'd like to see some remasters of games that aren't likely to get a successor. MAG, Warhawk, Twisted Metal, Fat Princess etc were pretty popular, weren't they? Couldn't care less about stuff like God of War though.

Dear EA... why? Why is it we still don't have a beautiful steelbook with all of the released Mass Effect content to date in 1080p and 60fps? Why deny us this glory? Why do I have to drag my computer to the TV room, hack in an unreliable controller patch and hope for the best to have a decent Mass Effect couch experience?

I will port beg for this forever... Sony please tell em!

Also, I'm willing to bet that at least half of the remaster naysayers are going to buy The Empire Strikes Back for the 8th time when its released in 4K.

Titles I wouldn't be surprise to see a remastered treatment (also wouldn't mind playing them again in 1080p):
-Heavy Rain (already confirmed)

-Beyond Two Souls (already confirmed)

-inFamous Collection (1 2 and Festival) [high posibiliy, specially if they somehow bring Cole back in the next inFamous game]

-Killzone 2 and 3 (maybe)

-Resistance Trilogy (probably not happening since the franchise is MIA)

-Ratchet n Clank Future Trilogy (probably not going to happen since its getting a sort of reboot, but if the movie and game succeed this is one way to get some quick cash while waiting for the sequel)

-TWISTED METAL (this is a must, either a remaster, remake or a new game for PS4)

-Motorstorm Trilogy (please for the love of god remaster this!)

This gives people new to the Sony platform a nice range of great games that the PS3 was known for which is good. For people who owned a PS3 for those exclusives though there's less of a reason to hang on to that console given that a good percentage of games are making their way to the PS4.

My only beef with Sony is when they get lazy and omit stuff like multiplayer from the Uncharted collection or just remaster one game in a series like God of War without giving people more of the series to play. At least give vouchers to play the other GoW games for free on PS Now or something.

Either you have a PS4 and very narrow taste or you have an XB1 and forgot to research.

I think I'd probably buy a few more but they are pushing it.

Motorstorm HD collection
Killzone HD Collection
Yakuza HD Collection
Resistance HD collection (I would probably actually like this because resistance 3 would look incredible at 1080p instead of the really poor presentation of the PS3 game)

You don't dictate what is of good or poor value for other people. And you're oversimplifying things.

Hasnt Beyond: Two Souls been rumoured for years at this point?

It's been officially announced already.
