Sony Says It’s ‘Very Likely’ More Remasters Are Coming

Then i misunderstood your point. But i'm still curious as to why the fact that they have more third party investments this gen is less impressive than first party.

Even with all the third party deals, even according to your numbers, they have a comparable number of Sony published titles as the same time last gen, down by 3. And next year is far more first party investment as well as Sony published deals coming down the pipe than this year. I'm just not sure there's a reason to be disappointed considering what we know.

Not really, in 1 year (2006-2007) They published 3 more games then in 2 years (2013-2015 counting upcoming games this year) this game.

Because I personally don't really care about their 3rd party investment like marketing deals and exclusive DLCs. I understand why they do it and it's the logical thing to do since it is working, but instead of those I would prefer new games since those 3rd party games would have been released anyways. It might be a selfish reason but that's how I feel about all this.

Sony's ps4 efforts are absolutely weaker, they released 3 more games on the PS3 in the same period.

One year versus two years.

In one year they published 24 games on the PS4.

Now I wanna know who are those studios you are talking about.

http://www.gamespot.com/forums/syst...losed-so-many-game-studios-this-gen-29363528/

Game Republic - Genji series, Folklore, Dark Mist, Toy Home
Incognito Entertainment - Twisted Metal series, Warhawk
Relentless Software Buzz! series
Bigbig Studios Pursuit Force series
Zipper Interactive SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs series, MAG, Unit 13
SCE Studio Liverpool Wipeout, F1
LightBox Interactive Starhawk
Eat Sleep Play Twisted Metal, Calling All Cars!
SuperBot Entertainment - PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale

I want a South Park - Stick of Truth Remake, PS3 edition looks meh,
Just think what could be done with that PS4 power...

it's easy money, of course there's more coming. looks bad when you look at what MS is doing with actually getting BC to work.

Read that again.

The huge amount of games they announced coming to PS4 in the last two months is considered lazy?

Okay then, Xone9.

From Sony themselves? The Last Guardian and some Morpheus crap is all I can think of. It could be much better.

Edit: Wait, Horizon. Still, it's not enough.

I have a PS4 only, I had all of Sony's home consoles and I have to admit that the first 2 years of the PS4 in terms of exclusives were horrible, the weakest in Playstation history imo, besides BB, there wasn't any good AAA game, maybe some decent indies, their line up was never this bad.

Future seems pretty promising but you can't deny they are having a horrible gen up untill 2016 at least, very disappointing.

I would definitely like a Remaster of Red Dead Redemption, especially for PC, but I just don't think that's feasible given everything I've heard about it and the engine it runs on.
If they could make RDR run on cell/RSX, they can make it run on a more traditional system. It was on 360 also you know.

Demon Souls remastered would be one more reason to get a PS4. I would also definitely take an MGS4 Remastered if they decided to reskin it in MGSV style textures.
Ughhh, the only remaster I want is Skyrim, do it Bethesda! Is there anything from Sony really worth it at this point??
Skyrim remastered exists on PC, there's an official HD DLC that came out forever ago.
You really can't get it much better looking than that before the quality starts to becoming unreasonably demanding for any generation of console.

MS has remasters too dude. Its time to let the PS4 BC ship sail. There is nothing they can do to get BC on PS4 for PS3 games. PS2 and PS1 games are a different story.

right before the start of the new generation.

The Generation which has markedly more remasters.

conclusion drawn.

are you serious.

Great but that's not what I'm talking about, I'm comparing Sony today with Sony last generation.

And that's at least not even true for Ubisoft since they published 60+ games between 2014 and 2015 or are you excluding some games for no reason?

You're only counting PS4 titles, I was talking about Sony as a publisher, Sony published more than 60 titles since the launch of the PS4.

Are we still pushing this narrative that Sony's doing nothing but remastering old games? Oh, boy. I think when you look at Jim Ryan's quote, it's pretty clear why they're doing this; he explicitly states that it's for newcomers to the PlayStation ecosystem. They clearly have data that says a lot of PS4 owners never had the previous consoles, so it makes sense that they want to get them up to speed on the biggest franchises.

That said, other than Gravity Rush, I can't really think of much else that makes sense based on the criteria of what he actually says.

No games, etc.

Lol
You must be one of those clueless dudes that think naughty dog and media molecule are not Sony studios.

Guys, come on. I own a PS4. I'm not some anti-Sony fanboy out to make them out to be the worst group ever. But it's pretty clear they're relying on remasters and ports a fair bit more than previous generations have and that 1st party software is coming out slower. Combined with closing certainstudios before the shift to PS4, that gives me cause to sideye it a bit.

Whatever. That's my peace.

Still waiting for KZ2 (plus KZ3 if they do a bundle) remaster. PLEASE GG/SONY do this, specially KZ2 with its MP intact. Don't change anything. KZ2 is still one of the best looking game of last gen. I want to see it in 1080/60 on PS4. My wallet is ready.

Wat. Uncharted 4, Dreams, and R&C exist bro. It is fine not to like any of them though.

So what are the Sony rumoured/announced remastered games so far?
-Last Of Us
-God of War 3
-Nathan Drake Collection
-Tearaway(can we even count this as remastered?)
-Rumored Quantic Dreams Beyond 2 Souls and Heavy Rain
-feel free to add to list any missing
---
Just because a whole bunch of third party remakes their games, it does not mean it's Sony's

Games Sony released so far not remastered
-Killzone SF
-Knack
-Infamous SS
-Drivclub
-Bloodborne
-The Order 1886
-feel free to add to list any missing.
----
More to come this year.

This isn't list war, but is to put into perspective.

This is sort of pathetic.

I have nothing against them remastering PS3 games but when you consider the drought of actual PS4 exclusives at the moment this is a bit stupid.

The reasons for this more complex than you think.

The big 3rd party publishers are no longer publishing 20 plus retail games per year like last generation.

Sony is also running a tighter ship.

Look at e3, lesser and more focused projects, where they can pour their marketing and PR efforts and have a higher chance of a successful launch.

The gaming world is changing and remaster and collections are going to be a huge part of it to satiate the hunger of hardcore gamers.

If you're not seeing this, you're gonna be disappointed.

I don't think they're 'relying' on them, I think they've seen an opportunity to make more money. I don't think there is anything wrong with that because there are more than enough exclusive games on the PS4. I have broad tastes and perhaps you don't (not knocking you here). Perhaps that's the real heart of this constant 'no game' false narrative?

Limited tastes: 'No games'
Broad tastes: 'What the hell are you on about?'

In fact I think that's the truth of it.

yeah. if we're going to accuse me of trolling, I'm not going to participate.

I was too hasty in not vetting particular information, but I'm not here to troll you guys.

It's more like they released a shit load of games for the PS3 from all of their major studios in 2013, the year the PS4 launched. Now was that smart? I don't know but all those first and second party studios were tied up with PS3 games when the PS4 launched so it's gonna take some time.

I'm on mobile so I'll be short, but is this games journalism today?

1st paragraph - "It wasn't that long ago this was new".
2nd paragraph - "fast and furiously"

And that ending in the quote - where's the objectivity?

The whole piece reads like a forum post.

Man, that's one website to skip.

On topic, I love remasters. Never played Gears, Dishonored, etc Now I get to with better graphics etc

What makes you interested in them now that didn't before? Is it because they're getting sequels, you didn't have the time but now you do?

I'm genuinely asking.

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
^ Maybe people never heard of the games, or they werent on the radar until now? Its pretty simple.

I understand what your saying. But in general, that is every publisher who relies on those titles to fill the gap in software releases now. The AAA market basically imploded a while ago, and so indies(many of which who are the leftovers from the AAA studios who downsized or went busto) are much more prevalent and those are the ones being pushed.

If we're comparing the AAA market in 2006 to now, it is absolutely a fact that it was in a much stronger position. AA games existed and were plentiful, and AAA were still in a much healthier state.
