NA PSN Sale - Capcom DMC and Square Enix Sale :D

Picked up:

Tactics Ogre
FFIV Complete
Xenogears

Had my eye on these for a while so this sale I decided to pick them up after so long. Im excited to jump in!

It's a pretty fantastic version of dmc4 with lots of extras.

But it is dmc4, which can be either a good or bad thing depending on personal taste.

Assuming you've not played it, it's worth buying to try. It's cheap enough and a great action game despite the flaws.
Yeah I always waited for a SE to be released back then but it never came so I forgot about it.

So for someone that loved DMC3 SE I assume this a must get. The price is acceptable too, I'll probably get it, thanks for the input.

Tactics Ogre seems a good deal given the good things I've heard, but is FFIV Complete worth it of I have the DS version? I've never played the After Years but heard mixed stuff on that one.

I was really hoping for some rather significant sales on the more recent spring games. Perhaps I was overly optimistic, or perhaps I am just jaded to PSN sales thanks to GCU discounts on all new games. But so far, nothing has triggered an impulse buy or any buy at all.

Can't really justify it after the last sale.

SquareEnix really needs to budge a bit on the pricing for their PSP games. Every game they have I already bought physically, now I just want a digital copy for my Vita. $20 is never going to happen and they never go better that %50 off. If they dropped these to $5 during a sale I would probably buy the whole lot at once. As it is, I can never quite justify $10 for any given game.

Is Legend of Mana a good pickup?

I'd like to know this as well.

Played this a bit back in the day and then played it again to completion in 2010.

The good news here is in terms of visuals and sounds this game really holds up. It looks good and sounds good and isn't nearly as dated-looking as most PlayStation 1 games are today. The gameplay is fun and the world has a personality, even beyond the watercolour look.

Now the bad news. This game is pretty damn rough. This is a lot like Saga Frontier in that very quickly you run out of things to do and will have to try a million things to get the next event. Every now and then you get a good run of things to do, but before long you will be stumped and have no idea where to go next. Having a FAQ for casual reference is pretty much a must.

Also, the game has a sort-of-like-Dark-Cloud-but-not-quite system where you get locations in the form of items, and lay them out on a big blank map to access them. Putting certain locations next to others can unlock things. The big problem here is a lot of optional stuff is tied to this, so most of the optional stuff you can never see unless you lay out the map exactly as some FAQ dictates, which really ruins the whole idea of creating your own world that Legend of Mana wants to create.

So long story short, if you're curious, I say go for it, but know full well what you're getting into. If you liked Secret of Mana but hated Saga Frontier, for example, I'd honestly recommend you don't get it.

Should I get Parasite Eve? It looks kinda like Vagrant Story and I love that game.

PE is an RPG with a survival horror wrapper. It doesn't have the fast action of VS. I didn't like it because the RPG battles get really boring really fast and you can't avoid them for most of the game.

Parasite Eve 2 is better because it doesn't try to be an RPG. It's straight out survival horror with THE best combat of any survival horror game until RE4 came out.

How is PSP tactics? Never played a strategy turn based game before. Been waiting for Jean D'Arc to go on sale
Assuming you mean FFT: if you can patch in the loading times, it's the definitive version of the game. It's like the original but with more content, a fully revamped translation and cool additional cut scenes.

It's the cream of the crop of strategy RPGs, with superb music, story, art and gameplay. I really can't recommend it enough unless you really hate SRPGs.

If you mean Tactics Ogre, well, that is also very good. I barely played the original version on PSX, so I can't compare it that much to the PSP one (I do know the PSP one is much easier/streamlined), but it's one of the greatest SRPGs ever made and laid the foundation for what FFT became.

Jeanne d'Arc is great, and probably more "noob friendly", but does it even have a digital version? Edit: OK, it does. It's not by Squeenix though so it's not as frequently on sale, unfortunately.

I looked into this one: it's based on an NES game where you can't save, you have only one life and can't continue (on normal), and you have to spend your lifebar just to shoot or use shields.

Might be a little too old-school.

Oh, I've played Thexder back in the day. I'm curious about this PSP 'Neo' version. But you're right, I probably would just backlog it...

How is Duodecimal for $19.99 a deal?

It doesn't even seem to be on sale. The original Dissidia is on sale for $9.99, and a waste of time considering the improvements of 012. Totally worth it for $19.99 considering the content you will get out of it but kinda shady they discounted the one nobody should be buying.

Edit: Or maybe it is a slight sale since I seem to recall it launching for $40 way back at release.

Jeanne D'Arc is a great SRPG. It's not the best, of course, but if you like the genre or are new to it, you should definitely give it a shot! I would rank it below TO:LUCT and FFT:WOTL but it's right there, just behind them. So go for it! It's fun, it's easy to follow and play, has great graphics and story and most importantly, it's fun.

Interested in DmC, but I only own a PS3 right now and don't intend to upgrade to a PS4 for quite a while (probably not until mid/late 2016). Is DmC still worth picking up on PS3 for the price it's at, or should I just wait and pick up the DE when I eventually get a PS4?

You should get the PS4 version.

60 fps, 1080p, gameplay tweaks, turbo mode, an additional cutscene, new costumes, and all DLC included.

Final Fantasy 7 or FF9? i've never completed VII (i was enjoying it) and never played IX

FFIX is a good game but FFVII is certainly the more essential one to play. So is FFVI for that matter, and it's also on sale.

If you're looking to stock up I'd say buy a bunch of these -- FFV is also definitely worth it at that price -- but if you only want one, FFVII is probably the one to go for.

Is DMC4 SE worth getting?

DMC4:SE has the best combat engine ever designed, and it's skill based so it's got a lot of depth with all 5 playable characters. But it's level design is very PS2 era. The game visually holds up very well today. The story is predictable but it's cutscenes and action choreography is top notch making the cutscenes worth watching.

If you only have a passing interest in action games, DmC:Definitive Edition would be the better choice. It's controls and combat mechanics are simpler, interesting level design and it's campaign is very forward driven, well paced with no backtracking.

Ultimately you should get both, you'll likely like one more than the other depending on your tastes and it's very unlikely you'll dislike any one of them so you might as well jump in.

This is a great post.

Tactics Ogre Is the game for you. The music, the story, the characters, the deep mechanics and gameplay. It's one of those games that'll stay with you for a long time.

That is a really good post :D. Would you mind if I put this in the OP, that way people can understand what makes both games worth getting? Because that would help people on the fence about picking up either game :).

Good looking out, OP. Just picked up DmC for the PS4 because I haven't played this type of game since DMC4 was new. Liking it so far, looking forward to playing it tomorrow when I'm not so tired.

Ive been checking all week... why have i been unable to find this sale in the store?

As the thread name states, this NA sale, so only NA PSN accounts can leverge from this sale. EU and JP accounts do not have this sale but if you own a PS3 or PS4, you could get the games on a new NA account and have them be on your PS3/PS4 despite your NA account not being your main one (thank you region-free PS3/PS4 :D).

If that isn't your issue....maybe you could update the PSN Store on your PS3/PS4 (is it an app on PS4 like PS3?) and that could solve your issue.

Try logging in your NA PSN account using the web store. Here is a link to the web store if that helps :).
