Destiny: The Taken King - Year 2 Reveal - Stream (Summary in OP)

Geez the hyperbole. We're still doing missions on the same 4 planets. A lot of the minutiae is changing, but the major stuff isn't. Unless of course they're hiding all new planets. All new player classes. And an all new matchmaking/LFG system. I'm not downplaying what they've done here, but come on, it's not a brand new game.

Compared to launch? Is this is a joke

There is no hyperbole. I don't speak in hyperbole. I'm not comparing it to current Destiny. I'm comparing it to launch, September 2014 Destiny.

They are 2 entirely different games. Everything from leveling system, loot drop system, Strike Mechanics system, weapon abilities system, upgrading weapons system, armor and weapons perk system, currency system, upgrade materials system and how you earn them etc have been entirely revamped

So was there any story stuff?

Today was just about the Tower and your inventory.

Nothing they showed off looked like a totally different game. Just enhancements to the current one.

Wait, so any exotic we get apart from the suros and bad juju may or may not become obsolete in a month's time? That's some schroedinger bullshit right there

Yes for the end game, but you'll have a ways to go to get there and it'll still be relevant.

Seems to me year one exotics will function more like ledgendaries at the cap.

Tons of these changes have already taken effect. During TDB and HoW. Are you arguing with me just to argue?

Do you actually remember what launch Destiny was like? From a mechanics stand point nothing is the same.

So is there any reason for me to spend strange coins or shards to fully upgrade the rest of my exotics now? It seems like any exotics that are carrying over to Year 2 will need to be upgraded by buying the new blueprint, making the old ones obsolete for new content?

Thorn, Vex, Necro all don't carry over. As well as ghorn obviously.

What a fucking joke. I've been saying for months that the best weapons were being phased out or completely discarded because the new stuff just won't be able to compete. We will never see perks like wolfpack rounds or mark of the devourer again.

I missed the stream, but catching up on the highlights I'm amazed on the changes. Wish they did something to the glimmer cap, not really in the mood to keep farming Cabal for hours for upgrades.

Still wish I could transfer loot from Xbox to PS, ugh all that effort.

But one screenshot had a hunter with a sword... A SWORD! I'm curious how well that will do in crucible vs shotgunners and handcannons. They should also let you go back and re-edit your character.

Not surprising, these were crutch weapons. Vex has lost it's luster but Crucible players bandwagoned the crap out of Thorn, and too many people on LFG wouldn't let you raid without a Ghorn. Hunger or even Dragon's Breath would be fine. Hell, before I had my Gally I used the crota machine gun and it takes down Crota almost as fast as a Gally if you keep at it's head. It's also handy against Oversoul, just need to stock on heavy ammo synth.

Not sure why Necro didn't carry over, maybe they're worried it'll become the new crutch weapon after the autorifle buff.

Can't wait for this. I'm among those who already enjoy Destiny (picked it up a month ago), and the TKK is everything in the right direction. MGO will have to be really good to draw my attention away from TKK come mid-September.

I just leveled up two new characters in the past month. Except for a few changes to the world (wolves occasionally dropping) it was the same game with a few new levels and new loot. Your argument the it's a different game is hyperbole. It isn't remotely a new game. It's an enhancement of vanilla Destiny, which isn't at all a bad thing.

Nope. Now looks like the time to simply accumulate gear you haven't already bought/found.

Isn't that everything that's in the game until a month from now?

Well yeah..we're hardly getting year 2 exotics before september 15 are we..

To be more specific, from the sounds of it (the original Exotics), many of them aren't going to be fully upgradeable. Latter ones from the expansions are the ones that will probably make the cut.

I wouldn't be surprised if Gallajorn which was an original exotic won't be able to upgrade past a certain point.

Looks like year two exotics can't be wielded until level 40 anyways. So you have some time.

You have entirely ignored the list of mechanics changes I listed and your counter argument is, "Theres just Wolves in the world."

Stop accusing me of hyperbole please. If you want to debate and bring points up solid. Name calling does little to help your counter argument as its flimsy. Again I'm saying mechanically speaking this is equivalent to a new game from launch Destiny. It just is. Fact. From a world and quest content point of view it is not.

Also my tone got Aggro and for that I apologize. I'm an Obliterator and at times can get fired up. Sure your a solid individual and meant no offense.

I want to to see the list of guns that won't make the cut. For example it looks like I can stop farming Crota for Crux if Necrochasm is out.

I must have missed this in presentation. I don't think it will take long to get to 40 from 34 though.

Let's not add changes to how you do missions now are quest style.

Gun Smith has quests as well as other vendors

The way you approach the game will be completely different, now that each armor carries different burn perks.

So like I've said to people complaining about gjally, thorn, TLW in the past, you'd rather them create more game breaking weapons to combat the other game breaking weapons instead of balancing the game (aka nerfing) thus allowing more options for players to choose other weapons. It's not like you can't still use these weapons in regular crucible. There's nothing wrong with phasing out old content to make way for the new.

Would be nice if a game about rewards actually gave us powerful ones that we could feel. Right now we're moving towards everything is virtually the same and you just pick the guns you use based on how cool they look.

Seems totally lame. If someone went through the trouble of a thorn bounty or the necrochasm nonsense, they should be rewarded with something that FEELS like it's worth it.

Power things up, not down.

Why did they bother modifying Necro for weapons 2.0 just to make you ditch it?

Crucible exclusive now?

Also they did ssay that they have plans to upgradr more exotics over time

Im bummed that i didnt see any HOW exoticsake the cut

Lord of Wolves is my favorite gun :(

Only SOME exotics getting upgraded? That's just unacceptable to me.

At LEAST let the ones that won't be upgradable to exotics get converted to Lv 40 legendaries. Something. I've been leveling Hard Light like a dummy looking forward to 2.0 and autorifle buffs. Oh well.

I don't know if this is the right place to ask but is there anyway to transfer my xbone character over to PS4?

Why are we assuming this list of Year 2 weapons is complete? Maybe they haven't gotten around to finalizing the list and figuring our the new values of some Year 1 weapons. I don't see why they can't make this change before launch.

There won't be Wolves public events when TTK comes out. Expect Taken events to replace them, as the Wolf events replaced Blades of Crota. Patrols / events are updated as well, though they have not yet shown in what ways. (All per earlier interviews.)

It really is a major relaunch.

We'll find new Exotics to abuse and they'll still be good in crucible. I kind of like that system. It's like Magic Cards and seasons- it helps stop power creep and keeps things fresh year to year.

I don't see how it makes sense at all. There's not that many exotics to begin with, what's wrong with a more diverse and expanding selection? This is contraction.

Not only does Taken King have like twice the exotics, they literally said the Year 1 -> 2 exotics are "just for now".

More Year 1 guns can come later.

Also, every gun from vanilla to now works just fine in Crucible due to damage leveling by archetype.

Only disappointment I've heard so far is that only SOME exotics are getting upgraded. What's the fucking point of having all these unique guns if you're gonna tell players "oops, now they suck".

It won't really be diverse if everyone uses the same old weapons. Most people stick with what they are comfortable with. I know for the most part I did that. Half the exotics I have I never upgraded fully.

This forces you to try out the new ones and evolve.

Sounds like you'll cycle into new gear pretty fast. Old stuff will still be useful in vanilla Crucible.

I added the DestinyGAF summary to the OP.

I can't believe this.

This is almost comical. If I was coming into Destiny now, this would all be great. Amazing even. But since I've played a bunch in year 1, all their improvements have nuked everything I have up to this point.

God dammit I wish I had just waited a year.

No.

Its staggering no matter how you look at it regardless of what kind of pre conceived notions you want to carry into the observations.

Destiny in 1 year is an entirely different game than it was at launch. That is a crazy accomplishment

I played Destiny last weekend for the first time in a year and while there are changes you are overexaggerating as hell.

TTK though? Compared to it Destiny + TDB + HOW look like a beta. This is what the game should have been in Y1
