Nintendo Downloads - August 2015

So, what are y'all playing at the moment?
A new friend who, for reasons unexplained and unasked, is desperate for money let me have his Super Mario 3D World for dirt cheap, and so I'm working on getting the few green stars that I couldn't get when I borrowed the game months ago for a few days. I'm also playing together with my brother on his save file to help him beat every stage with every character quicker so he can get the last shiny star on his profile. I'm really glad that I finally own this game and that my friend, despite looking like a troglodyte, takes care of his game discs (although the case leaves a bit to be desired -.- )

I'm playing "earn funds needed for the busy Sept. season of Super Mario Maker, Project Mirai DX, 3D Sonic 2, then the non-Nintendo Danganronpa Another Episode's LE, Steins;Gate, then wait for the already paid off Senran Kagura 2 w/ CDs, Persona 4: Dancing All Night LE & the previously mentioned games to actually arrive".

So yeah, about 5 retail games, then 3D Sonic 2 on eShop. Sept. is seriously busy for me, & that's not including the amiibo coming out as well. Thank goodness I got a job last week so I can actually afford all of that stuff.

On Nintendo side, mainly Ultimate Nes Remix. Very cool game, I'm aiming for at least the "base" 3 stars on every level. It's also making me wonder why Nintendo hasn't made an eshop modern entry of Ballon Fight, it looks so cool from those small bits in UNR.

Tappingo (both of them), I like to think of as a more "relaxing/chill" puzzle game. It's never really difficult, but it is kind of fun seeing what you'll make next, even if there's not much challenge. At the very least, the prices are nice & cheap, especially when they're on sale. The sequel did kind of fix some of the issues with the previous games, but if you weren't fond of the first game, I don't think the sequel would change your mind.

I agree, it doesn't require as much thinking/work as Picross does in the later levels but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I'm finding it to be very fun

Just for information: what engine does it run on? Did they change it for the PS4 version or is it the same?
They originally made the game in XNA, since it was Xbox 360 exclusive at the time, then ported it over to Monogame for the PS versions. Problem is that Monogame doesn't support Wii U natively, which means that they'd have to port it to Unity or something else in order to get it to a pretty small market. Probably too expensive and time consuming for the ammount of sales they can expect on Wii U.

So, what are y'all playing at the moment?
Nothing on Wii U atm sice that's still at my friend's house lol Getting back into Boxboy on 3Ds tho.

So I just did an interview with Two Tribes a few hours ago and the status of Rive did come up and it looks like the game has at least another good half year of work to go before it is fully ready.

Aww maaaaan

It seems like it's really pretty far along too.

So, what are y'all playing at the moment?

Cthulhu Saves the World, and on the Wii U trying to force myself to put more time into Legend of Kay and Kirby 64 so I can finish 'em off this month.

I started doing a no switch palace/no back up item run of Super Mario World, but I'm probably gonna lay off so I don't burn out before Mario Maker.

I'm really amazed at how subtly Nintendo puts an 'easy mode' in some of their games. So much so that we sometimes take for granted that we don't have to use everything that is thrown at us. We hear how easy these games are, but that's not always the case when there aren't any ! blocks to break your fall.

Anyways, I'm really happy that Vs. Excitebike is coming. Hopefully more imports make their way over. Maybe that Super Mario Excitebike game (or was that Satellaview?).

Back in high school I did a no-switch-palace run of Super Mario World. I really recommend it. Know full well that Star Road requires some tricky play to complete that way!

Aww, Xenoboy. There, there.

So, what are y'all playing at the moment?

Nintendo-wise sort of playing Fluidity Spin Cycle, but probably going to start Yoshi's New Island soon. Probably will play some Splatoon as well here and there. Want to finish the Dishonored DLC on Steam before most of that though.

Just bought phoenix wright dual destinies. Great price, can't wait to star playing. Is the dlc worth it?

Definitely, the DLC case is one of the best in the game.

New upcoming virtual console games for Japan:

Mario Golf 64 (N64, 1028 yen)
Fire Emblem: Binding Blade (GBA, 702 yen)
Wai Wai World 2: SOS!! Parsley Castle (Famicom, 514 yen)

From Nintendo Everything and Nintendaan

Yes, you can play it in short spurts without there being any issues. You can even skip days if you want, only issues being that you might have weeds, some flowers might die, and your villagers might move. The first two issues are fixed with an ordinance that you can set in your town hall which prevents flowers from wilting and limits weeds spawning as well. There are also ones that make your stores/villagers stay up later or earlier, so you can use those to fit the game into your schedule.

[...]

Niraj did a great job describing it but I wanted to stress how perfect Animal Crossing sounds for you. It's designed to be played in short bursts. Of course, you could also put hours and hours every day if you felt like it, but it's also perfect for people who don't have much time to play to invest themselves in. 10 to 15 minutes will do it, or even maybe less once you streamline your daily routine, and you don't even have to play it daily if you don't feel like it. The game doesn't really demand anything, you put in what you want and it's just about as stress free as gaming gets.
Tomodachi Life is actually not very similar to AC at all, despite what some people say. Fantasy Life is more like it but without the combat, of course. As great as Happy Home Designer looks, it doesn't really work as a replacement for New Leaf and probably works better if you've played this game before. ACNL is the best in the series and my favorite 3DS game so I can't really recommend it enough, specially in your particular case and at that price.

Heh, alright, I went out and bought it. Everyone is so cute, lol. Though I guess I missed out on a bunch of exclusive content via Spotpass back when the game was new. Hate crap like that. I would have missed items regardless because I didn't get a 3DS until the gold Zelda one came out, and I'm pretty sure NL had been around for a while at that point, even... Oh well!

And FYI I was interested in Home Designer because I'm totally into designing houses. It's partly why I play Sims (though I like building the house, too). Also, with the bundle, you get the amiibo reader with it and save some money. Can't wait to make a POC in Home Designer, lol.

The Balloon Trip game in Nintendo Land is so good. It's probably my favorite, and pretty much what you're asking for, a modern Balloon Fight except just the Balloon Trip mode. There's also a Balloon Fight sequel on Game Boy that's pretty cool.

There's a mustached whale in it. So YEAH.

Nice! You're gonna have a great time with it, I'm sure. Are you sure those items are not still being distributed though? I thought those were on a weekly rotation or something similar. Just a couple of months ago they were even giving some previously Japan exclusive items. edit: wait, I mean the presents you get from the post office. In any case, make sure about it, you might still be able to get some stuff. Also, StreetPasses are really useful, specially if you're into decorating your house, since you can order everything the person you StreetPass with has on their house at that moment. The game's pretty popular so it can't be that hard to get SPs.

Yeah, Happy Home Designer looks amazing, but I'm sure you'll appreciate New Leaf better by playing it before HHD. It must be weird to go back to some of NL's limitations after everything HHD added. On top of knowing all the animals, items, etc, when they show up.

Haven't really checked, but I'd wager around 2000, maybe a little under or over. Though as New Leaf OT frequenters would hopefully attest, much of that (though not a majority of course) was simply opening my town and letting people catalog items/buy paintings/sell stuff/etc. I've had 1000+ visitors, so it adds up. I'm not sure how much time I've actually spent "playing," but I'm sure it's quite a bit too :p

That's cool. My internet connection is the worst in all of GAF so I couldn't play online at all and I don't know anyone else with the game, so yeah... I'm a lonely Animal Crossing player -_-; I've been at it since the GameCube days, though. Still remember John Ricciardi's preview of the N64 version in an old EGM and thinking it was my dream game.

It's an incredible game!
Please don't let something like bad early 90's artwork put you off.
For me it's the best 'Run-n-Gun' ever, certainly a must play for anybody.

That art is from the Japanese MD cover btw which has a certain charm to it:
gunstar-inst-2.jpg

...but you're right, it doesn't make for the best banner.
I'll get to it eventually but huge backlog+that bad art just put my purchase on the back burner.
The cover's a bit better since it's more busy and you don't immediately focus on those awful faces.

I've never been Han's biggest fan, I'm surprised I'm even defending him, but the guy deserves more respect than that, man. Look him up, he's worked on some really great, loved games, and he's designs (yes, even those you're criticizing so much) are really iconic, even if they're not your cup of tea.

As for the game, if your opinion on a simple drawing that's not even featured in the game is enough to persuade you against getting one of the most beloved games of its generation, then I don't know what to tell you. I'm pretty sure the NA version uses the NA Genesis cover art anyway, which maybe you'll like better. If anything else about the game is attractive to you, then get it, man, 'cause it's pretty damn radical.
Yes, he did work on some critically acclaimed games but bad art is just bad art.
RIa2Xz9.png

It might be charming or iconic to some due to nostalgia but I'm confident that the vast majority will find it very unappealing and it will hurt sales. How many people receiving the Nintendo newsletter are going to check out a game that advertises itself with this?
fSTfZ1O.png

The NA version seems to use the JP boxart, not that the alternative would be that much better and I'm from PAL-land, anyway. Also, doesn't the bottom screen display the characters from the cover during gameplay?
SgLk9he.jpg

Like I said above, I'll get to it eventually because I'm not that shallow and it's supposedly a totally gnarly game but I'm frustrated that it is being advertised so badly.

Soon enough, EU will ketchup on VC releases. :)

Where did you get these otherworldly moving pictures?

I haven't used ketchup in a very long time on my food, maybe I'll try it later.

I'll wait till next month when the US won't get any nice VC stuff and then you guys will have to ketchup :p

I've got literally one more puzzle left on Picross e6, and I'm also playing Samurai Warriors 4 for the the PS4.

EDIT:Just beat the last one, all with no hints. I'll miss you Picross. I don't believe there is an e7, right?

Thanks for the answer. It's true that they just brought the game on PS4, and they intend to do the same on Vita, but I suppose Wii U is not considered right now, and it'd mean to do much more work than on other platforms. Does Transistor run on the same engine?

coming to Wii U eShop this fall. For all y'all block addicts.

Still not Minecraft itself? I'm sure the developers of the various Minecraft clones are happy that Microsoft seemingly doesn't want to compete with them.

Scary how well the Minecraft clones are doing. Makes it seem like the real Minecraft would just demolish the charts.

Cube Creator 3D is already dominating the 3DS eShop charts in Japan too. It'd be hilarious if it ended up selling Minecraft Vita eventually.

Bizarre. But, I am not someone who readily understands the appeal of your Minecraft or your No Man's Sky, so....

With all this talk about Monogame, I'm wondering where Nintendo's support for Monogame on Wii U is. They announced something like two years ago but no news since.

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
The boy child who owns Minecraft on PC as well as on his tablet also bought Cube Creator 3D.

The thirst is real for that shit dudes and dudettes.

Well, Day One I tried the present thing at the mail center and the character said there was no access point. Chalked it up to SpotPass just being finished cause usually with other games it doesn't last that long. Then today I got a SpotPass message about an item, but after going to the mail center I got the same message about lack of access point...

Then, after Googling, I realized I had to find a Nintendo WiFi spot at a Starbucks or something, verses just using my Internet at home, to get items for the game. Which is pretty annoying, but I suppose doable. Kinda hoping next gen we don't have to deal with this "access point" crap. Just let me go online and do everything involving the Internet at home / most places with public wifi.

Also wish they could tweak their wifi settings more, because I can't use the Internet at my college on my 3DS and it makes me sad.

Awesome, BOTH Sin & Punishment games are out tomorrow.

Wii game is highly suggested playing with the Wiimote due to the fact it's faster to point where you need to shoot than move your cursor with the analog stick.

So, what are y'all playing at the moment?

I'm working on finally finishing Kirby's Epic Yarn in honor of Good Feel and Woolly World's October NA release. Also playing Dragon Quest V on DS, Gun Nac for NES and Soukyugurentai for Saturn. Can't wait for both Mario Maker and Woolly World. I really wish NOA has released Woolly World in June or July though so I could have gotten my Yoshi file completed and out of the way by now.

That's too bad, we had a lot of fun back in the day. Most of my IRL friends gave it up much quicker than I did lol, but it's all good. I honestly can't remember when I first heard of it, though I do remember seeing magazine pics of "Animal Forest."

Yeah the spotpass stuff is done with for North America I'm fairly sure, though Nintendo Zone DLC has still been going on with a new item every two weeks. You can always ask people in the New Leaf OT if there's a specific item you need, though I guess that's dependent on your connection working.

Yup, MonoGame as well.

Thanks.

Yeah, if porting MonoGame's titles on Wii U presents some difficulties, I doubt we'll see Bastion/Transistor on the platform (unfortunately). I started playing Bastion on my laptop, but I couldn't control it that well by keyboard and trackpad, thus I abandoned it. One day, I'll play it again and complete it (maybe on PS4 at this point, once I buy it XD ).

I am playing dual destinies and I am in love. Great game.
What about the Phoenix wright trilogy? Is it worth it? I have played only the first one. However, for 22.49 I think is too much for a digital release. Has it been cheaper before?
