That was nanomachines though. Wasn't S3 all about putting someone in a similar situation and using VR training to turn them into Solid Snake? I guess you could say Raiden saved the day, but not without a lot of help from the man himself.

Nanomachines had nothing to do with S3, minus the ancillary stuff nanomachines related to such as Raiden's codec. The vr training was just one aspect. The real meat of the project was recreating Shadow Moses itself in order to turn a soldier into Solid Snake. They succeeded.

Yes, Snake, Otacon, and Liquid came close to ruining the test but it managed to be a success regardless. That's why the Colonel kept telling Raiden repeatedly not to rely on Pliskin. Raiden beat Fatman, which was one metric, made contact with the Ames and President, which was another metric, made contact with an Emmerich, and successfully survived encounters with Fortune, Vamp, Solidus, and Metal Gear on his own. The Ninja helping Raiden was allowed.

edit: and if you mean nanomachines relating to SOP, yes that was critically important. But the driving of the war economy was done by manipulating society at large and propping up the military industrial complex as a way for the AIs to propagate themselves. Big Boss covers this in the final cutscene. The war economy would have been able to survive without nanoachines, as Big Boss' mercenary exploits show.

double edit (sorry): think of the war economy as a breeding ground and SOP/nanomachines as a form of offspring

To be fair, the 'majority' of the player base is actually a very small part of GAF. And at that, it's even a smaller segment hanging out in the spoiler thread.
The majority of course is people who don't see a problem with the game. skylenorman said that the writing was intentionally made for me to feel betrayed, which I am a minority in, which means the writing failed to do what it was supposed to (according to skylenorman)

I think we're both polar ends of the spectrum here. You're unable to see the game for what it is given your rage over the twist.

The game part seems excellent, a shame Kojima would ruin it with how the story plays out. It makes the gameplay sections hollow for me (Also I hope you don't think I'm being rude against you, all this anger is solely directed at Kojima, so my apologies for sounding hostile, I just lost a dear friend of almost 2 decades in the worst possible way - RIP MGS)

The doctor says they prevented him from being atrophied through daily massages, something and something else. I can't remember the exact terms.

Yeah I'm aware - I believe it was CPM (constant passive motion) and another three letter acronym for electrical stimulation. That just means his muscles were still functional at all after 9 years in a bed, but what I said is supported by the game's art itself. Replay the intro and take a look at the difference in muscle mass between Venom and Ishmael when they're crouched close together - Venom's arms were clearly made quite skinny and weak looking, while Ishmael appears to have anywhere from 20-40 lbs of extra muscle mass on his frame. It would have been easier for the character artists to simply reuse the athletic model, so that means they specifically went out of their way to make this differentiation.

Sure he should be rusty but do you really want to slog through a couple missions as a rusty soldier just so it works with the story?

Read the posts I linked to earlier if you want to see what I think could have been done.

---------------

Can someone answer this? Does the ability to Fulton the Skulls come in later, or is it specific to particular missions?
Random question, is it possible to Fulton the Skulls? When I played the Code Talker mission earlier, I tranquilized them, but their bodies had a smokey blue aura, and the 'push triangle to Fulton' pop up was crossed out.

Does replaying the mission allow you to Fulton them, or is there a special Fulton upgrade later that allows it?

I'm on Mission 11. If I want Quiet to join Mother Base, do I need to take her out by tranq-ing her, or can are you meant to attack her with normal weapons?

You can attack her with normal weapons. After you "win" the boss fight, you'll be given the option to either kill her or not.

Speaking of Quiet, is there clarification about her leaving permanently?

If you want to complete mission 45 and side op 150, you have to let her leave and there is no way of getting her back?

All that's left for me in the immediate future is A) an honest go at all S-ranks, B) checking off all those secondary story missions objectives. If any one of these takes more than two hours, I'm done.

I have tried everything i can think of, i s-ranked quiet extreme whilst playing quiets theme via chopper and tape, whilst having butterfly emblem

Holy shit this game just became silent hill for a short time !

That was satisfying to sneak in and then have that encounter, especially considering the previous mission was quite a big one in a unique location (save the children).

Not at all. I can totally understand your point. This game absolutely worked for me, I liked the 4th wall break of the "you thought you were Big Boss, huh?" that I shared with Venom. I might have benefitted from not having read it on GAF before I was able to play it though.

like I said, I hope some PC mods can fix this. The one trope I absolutely HATE is losing gameplay features near the end. hell, they let you keep paz in peace walker despite the ending!

So I'm just jumping in here after not having followed this game since like 2013 or something...
David Hayter is definitely not in it at all... right??

Wow....hahaha.

How is this triggered?

Not too sure.
I'm in Chapter 2 and i took a heli from the Command platform to the Medical Platform and it just happened .
Chapter 2 seems to have a lot more cutscenes that trigger when arriving at MB so i'd recommend visiting often.

What did you think? How about V?

I didn't actually watch it at the time I just knew Big Boss somehow came back. When I saw the actual ending in my play through I didn't really like it.

The first ending was perfect in a bittersweet way, before Venom/Real/Phantom/Fake/WhoCaresAnymore Big Bass showed up.

What the fuck...

Don't get me wrong. I love me some fan service, but this goes beyond the B&B Corps. Are people ashamed of their words and deeds against Quiet now?

Part of that is fan service, no doubt, but the rest of it I think is actually really nice. It shows the nature of Quiet and Big Boss as some undertones of something between then, perhaps romantic, but both stop themselves before they go too far. It's a great scene minus the middle part where Quiet is solo and flopping around

The scene would actually have been charming and endearing if Quiet wasn't almost naked. If she had a uniform on her, I would've LOVED this scene.

Even the torture scene doesn't refrain from zooming in and sexualizing her. I seriously hope this is addressed by the gaming media because that's disgusting.
