It also leads to better facial capture when the character model and the actor/actress look identical.

Most of our facial performance captures look like the actors for the same reason actors look like their characters...
Because that's the face doing the acting...and the talking...

I get the logic behind it of course, but its not like, say, Joel in The Last of Us looks like Troy Baker in any real way and they do plenty of facial/motion capture/acting.
