No doubt, but is it really that noticeable? I thought they would just use larger filesize'd chips, not actual size.
Memory back then was different to what is today.

Today, bigger memory chips cost less.
Back then, bigger memory chips used cost more, so they just added more of the smaller ones.

At least that's how I remember... :p

Cartridge size varied[56] from 4 MB (32 Mbit) (e.g. Automobili Lamborghini and Dr. Mario
64) to 64 MB (512 Mbit) for Resident Evil 2 and Conker's Bad Fur Day.

One of the nicest views is to open a cartridge and see both the front and the back of the board stacked with memory chips..

I've never seen the insides of a n64 cartridge, so I could be totally wrong, but that's what common sense dictates.

The weigh thing is obviously false, but now that it is mentioned, can anyone post open cartridge pics of various Game Gear, Master System, Genesis, Gameboy, NES, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64 and others? I just realised I never saw the innards of any of these.

There we go.

Tell me which one weights more? :D

Ocarina of Time is 256 megabits, Mario64 is 64mbits. Of course, those are not direct representative of gameplay content. But you get the drift.

Diddy Kong racing, however, is (I think) 96mbits:

And I'm pretty sure Mario is longer than Diddy Kong Racing, even tho they are the same weight and Diddy Kong Racing is bigger... :p

So while the affirmation that heavier means longer gameplay is incorrect, heavier does mean more graphical content, which COULD (but doesn't necessary means it will) translate to bigger gameplay (more places to visit need different textures which need more space to be stored).

Whatever, this is just an excuse for me to post N64 cartridge differences, since I'm bored out of my mind today. :p

Rutger Hauer is in Rambo 3 for the Genesis, but he never appears in any Rambo movie. Genesis does what Nintendon't, the console of the stars.

Long time lurker, first post so be nice :p

So there I am playing Heavenly Sword for the first time in months last night, when I decided to take a break. I was watching the dev videos and saw the actress who played Nariko. I thought she was a hottie so I googled her.

Anna Torv (born April 15, 1979) is an Australian actress who plays FBI agent Olivia Dunham on the FOX series Fringe. She is also known for her role as the voice, motion capture performer, and face of the main character Nariko in the Playstation 3 game Heavenly Sword.

Could just be me and the fact I didn't know this, but

AHA!

I've been watching this show lately, and there's been something on the edge of my mind every time she's on screen. Thank you for scratching that itch.

It may be old knowledge but I found out last night that the woman who does the voice acting for Zoey in Left 4 Dead also does the voice for Princess Peach and Cortana from Halo !:lol

I've discovered that there are only five voice actors in the whole entire world and they do all of the voices for every game or cartoon or anything else ever. Tara Strong is their leader.

Phil LaMarr is their second in command.

Wow, I didn't notice that at all! Good one. I guess it also makes sense that
Lamiroir would be blind, as the bracelet she once had on gives Apollo "enhanced" vision.

Actually,
during that case, you find out that her blindness and nationality are both stage stories created by her agent.

Why doesn't the Mario 64 have a battery? It stored its games in memory, but where?

I thought it was Rutger Hauer when I purchased Rambo III decades ago :lol

Wha?

DAMN!
I noticed that long ago. MGS4 uses the same font for subtitles and general text. Fire Emblem GC uses it for text too, probably so does FE Wii. I'm pretty sure a bunch of other Wii games and possibly PS3 games use it too, but I've lost track of which.

If that's the case then Cree Summer is the mastermind and Steve Blum is her right hand man.

Jennifer Hale and Kari Walgren are the eye candy.

And Yuri Lowenthal and Johnny Bosch are the gofers.

Every now and then people like Michelle Ruff and Jamieson Price show up to the facility for shits and giggles.

As we all know, Koji Kondo likes to steal or borrow some pieces of music from other artists. I don't care, but it's fun to find more examples. Two here today:

Bill Evans Trio - Someday my Prince Will Come

the first chords...hey isn't that

Yes it is....

I love this piece of music which is played here by the legendary Tommy Emmanuel. I mean the second part of the song, Lady Madonna. What do we hear there?

Tommy Emmanuel - Day Tripper/Lady Madonna (the important part is after 1:30)

wait, isn't that...oh you sneaky bastard!

He did it again indeed!!

Flash memory as opposed to SRAM?

Flash doesn't require an electric current to keep data, while SRAM does. GBA games were like this as well, and some even used EEPROM.

But which one is superior? The Mario 64 one didn't use the battery. Wouldn't that be more superior than having to use a battery? Or is the battery superior? I guess price cost? Still, if Mario can have it and didn't cost any more than the other games did....

Flash is more expensive.

Mario was the same price, but then again, It was only 64mbit as opposed to Zelda's 256mbit.
So Mario was cheaper to manufacture. Maybe they could add Flash memory without driving the price up.

It was a problem until recently, since, like I said, GBA suffered the same issue. Different games had different saving mechanics.

Many N64 games used a Memory Chip for the Save that didn't need a battery, like most GBA games. I guess it was cheaper somehow to use a battery backup for Zelda though.

The Halo series is actually the prequel to the Marathon series

The ending of Halo 3 shows
master chief crashing on the marathon alien planet which is exactly where Marathon 1 begins

And the gravitational pressure from that planet makes the master chief's helmet expand and become spherical.

Marathon 1 took place on Deimos, one of Mars' moons, which was converted into a space station by humans.

What is that form of saving called again? The name escapes me...

Found this one out recently.
