Gran Turismo 6 Sells 2.37 Million Copies, 72.6 Million For GT Series

I just bought a Logitech G27 this summer to play PC sim racers. My brother get GT6 on that playasia sale that gave the game for free with every purchase and gifted the game to me for my birthday.

I just stopped playing any PC sim and I'm enjoying this GT6 a lot. In fact is the only game i'm currently playing every day and I'm now very excited for a GT7 on PS4.

What is a good dissapointment is the fact that I will have to get a new wheel and that will prevent me from getting the next game.

So, I left the series on GT2 and I'm glad to be back. I've been gathering info on previous GT (to have more use for the G27) and seems that GT5 and GT6 are very similar. Maybe that's another reason (apart from the PS4 launch one) to justify while people who have GT5 are not jumping into GT6?

And let me do a gess: I think GT7 will be a Morpheus game/launch title

Dont know if its been said but they really should remaster this for ps4. Even if it's just a resoulution and framerate boost, just something to hold us over till GT 7.

man that's bad. Hopefully GT7 returns to its glory, but now Forza is just as good.

Even if it is, it doesn't matter as long as Forza is tied to a console that is a non factor in Europe, that is also the main market for racing games.

Nah, they should go straight into GT7.

Why?

I'm sure if they gave the project to a capable developer and left PD to concentrate on GT7 it wouldn't impact on the development of GT7.

Plenty of people would buy a remaster of GT6 and I'm sure it would hold up very well.

Puppeteer could sell itself too? It's not like sending games to die is a new thing for Sony, they do it constantly.

Where did I say Puppeteer could sell itself? Maybe they got sent it out under the same circumstances but the reasoning behind them can be very different.

Maybe they felt it wasn't worth marketing Puppeteer as they probably thought it wouldn't have a large audience. You're right, they do shit like this, or even worse like Demon's Souls but I don't think GT falls in that category.

For PS4: Crew, Driveclub and PCars.

Unless you somehow powered thru em all.

If he means sims more literally, it's actually PCars only, and not much on the horizon either apart from Assetto Corsa but I don't know if anyone cares about that.
Not sure what driving model those yearly franchises like Moto GP or F1 have.

GT is probably Sony's biggest flagship title and at the time they closed the servers the online community of GT5 was more than alive.Surely they could afford to run the servers for at least a few years more. There are other much older and less prominent games that still have their servers up.

It was a shitty move that tried to force people to move on to GT6.

I would imagine the engine is way too Cell specific for a fast and cheap port. It would also hurt the Prologue business model.

Assetto Corsa is coming next year. It's not like there's ever been an abundance of sim racers on any platform besides the PC. How many were there on the PS3?

It feels the wait is longer though due to GT6 being on ps3 which I never played due to getting a ps4.

True. And even with these "bad" sales, it sold better than the latest Forza game and received better reviews.
Releasing it for the PS3 was the main issue here. It was the first GT game I didn't buy.
But damn, can't wait for the new one on the PS4.

I really think they should just do one GT per gen and follow it up with DLC. I loved GT5, but there's just not enough about a new GT on the same platform to get me to buy GT6.

Which baffles me to this day. Who in their right minds thought it do amazing numbers being PS3 exclusive a month after the PS4 launched? Should've been a cross-gen launch title or launch window title.

This. The Twilight Princess treatment would've been ideal.

This didn't help matters much, either.

Too late.
Near launch, maybe.
I'll take a prologue though, for the right price.

Only thing I would say for the PD team is it might not have been that "unexpected". Sony made money off of GT:p and GT5, GT6 definitely needed a bit more push, maybe a next-gen port early in PS4's life.

I think they can catapult right back into the 6-7 million with a stellar GT7 though. They usually are selling like 20 million units a gen, so including GT:p, they still sold a lot of units.

Just have to get GT7 right, I definitely skipped out on GT6 after getting Prologue and GT5

Still sold quite a bit more than other AAA racers, but this is poor relative to GT sales, but then again people were making the transition to PS4, so they would wait for the inevitable eye melting GT7 instead......GT5 had lots of content anyway and it does take quite a bit to platinum that game, so the timing was a bit wrong on many fronts.

I still think GT6 served it's purpose though and that will make GT7 much better. Kaz fixed or improved; Menus/ui, loadtimes, sound, physics and graphics in GT6 over 5, (he improved resolution and color tones too).

I think the biggest takeaway from all the feedback he has received and even the lower sales, is that people want a Next gen and overhauled GT in everyway. New brandspanking graphics, snappy menus, new tracks built ground up, cars built ground up, gorgeous track detail etc..Improved online modes and matchmaking features. All that and whatever else they choose to innovate with next, like an overhauled B-Spec mode, an overhauled tune up, car wash, just take everything and give it a next gen step up.

In essence, that says all but one thing, DO NOT PUT low detail PS2 or even PS3 cars in GT7, DO NOT give us these low rez/low texture tracks from previous entries either. Everything has to be ground up and looking the part (as we know they're capable of).

Also please Kaz, no need to render GT7 at 4k downsampled you overambitious guy......., prioritize a solid line 60fps please. GT5 and 6 would have done just fine at 720p with 2-4xAA or even MLAA last gen, we would have had a solid no dipping 60fps for both titles if they optimized for those specs.

The standard was 720p last gen and I know Kaz have delivered more than the standard every generation, but he should have stayed within the confines/standards of that generation, especially working with the PS3, that system was definitely a hard one......

Shocking sales for GT6 and while I don't think it's deserved (off the back of GT5 it definitely does) I do hope PD take notice! They need to bring everything with GT7 - can't just rely on past glories to ensure it sells...

I can imagine that it would make NDs job of untangling TLOU from the PS3 to get it on the PS4 childs-play

I just can't see GT6 turning up on the PS4 because of the effort involved - I don't think PD would allow a sub-par port. Ultimately I want the PS4 GTs to write a line in the sand regards the previous PS3 GTs and return to the high points in the franchise.

PD have a lot of work to do - whatever they produce I expect the new GT to be well scrutinised.

COD and GTA are in another league entirely, but GT is a freaking huge IP. Each mainline entry sales were consistently above 10m units... Across 15 years of activity.

Gran Turismo is absolutely huge, which is why releasing GT6 on a last-gen console after a new console came out was a horrendous decision for the brand. When your brand is primarily known for its photo-realistic visuals, then you are doing a disservice to your brand and its respective customers by releasing a product that doesn't offer new value in its main hook. In other words, GT7 would have to be an absolute creative mess to sell less copies than GT6, because by the sheer nature of being on new hardware, the game will deliver new value on its main hook.

Yeah even with the GT5 servers closed down.Actually maybe that was one of the reasons they closed down the GT5 servers, because they wanted to force people move on to GT6.

That was the reason. GT5 was 3 years old but the community was still very alive ( X00,000's if we're talking numbers).

That's another huge missed opportunity to reset the launch windows of the series on PlayStation moving forward imo.

Ever since consoles are connected to the internet, and patches, updates, DLC are normal things, a big selling point of the 2nd gen GT which was a roster and content update is pretty much no more. (unless PD would stop supporting their games after launch, but that's another outrage in the making)

Since GT5 took it's sweet time in development, the team, PD got pretty close to tapping out PS3's power already, plus constant support made a way better game than at launch. So a GT6 on the PS3 felt like GT5.5, with slightly updated graphics and some not revolutionary updates.

If GT6 would be developed with PS4 in mind from the start and release as a launch title or holiday 14', we can assume there would be enough wiggle room with the hardware that a 2nd gen GT on PS4 which would be GT7 released let's say holiday 17' in this case would at least be a significant visual upgrade which could potentially justify the upgrade in many peoples eyes.

As we stand with GT7 probably coming in 2016, we're againn waiting very long for a 1st gen GT, and again either a release of GT8 at the tail end of PS4's lifecycle, or even longer wait to reset it this time and launch early in PS5's lifecycle.
Although maybe this time GT8 would have a shorter lifecycle and the differentiator would be releasing on Morpheus? But I doubt that.

Maybe having one Gran Turismo per PlayStation and supporting it as a service with "Seasons" is the way to go moving forward.

I hope GT 7 brings back the glory. I'm surprised we haven't heard much of late. I remember around the launch of the PS4 all they kept saying was that GT 7 will be ready sooner then anyone thinks. But lately we haven't heard squat.

GT7 will be out before 2017 said by Kaz.

so you still think it was best for this game to have been a Ps3 exclusive in the holiday season of Ps4's launch when hat console was semi-devoid of good launch titles?

The question would be if porting a old PS3 centric engine to the PS4 with a quite different hardware architecture is worth the additional time and manpower.

Or that working on GT7 was more important.

That was just another one of Kaz's lies to get people to buy the PS4. He also said GT7 could release a year after GT6. (in pre-alpha state maybe?)

Watch as GT7 will still need 10 GB of patches to be fully complete just like their last 2 games.

Not shocked at all, I lived GT5 but skipped 6 because it was only for last gen and I was busy playing PS4 and Forza 5 on One.

I don't know anyone who wanted GT6 on PS3, especially when it was slated to launch AFTER PS4 has debuted. Bad timing, but then again, the game was a very good improvement on GT5.

GT7 will be a beast.

That's incredibly low for a GT game. Didnt GT5 sell over 10m? Sony should have just made it a launch game for PS4.

Considering PD are detached from reality and refuse to aknowledge that a GT community exist all I can say is diddums.

Hire a community rep (apparently they have one but he seems to have spent the last decade MIA) and at least try to interact in some fashion.

I'm actually quite surprised they managed to get that many sales. I know it's a massive franchise but it did seem to be releasing into the middle of nowhere.

Fantastic game though!
