Konami ceases triple-A console production on all but PES

I hope the talented developers at Konami who still want to make truly great games can find work someplace else where they can put their amazing talents to good use. Having their skill and creativity rot away on Konami's gambling machines and Skinner Box apps is an insanely twisted travesty.

This is also a good thing. Considering the atrocious mobile garbage that seeped into MGSV and made it worse than what it could have been I can only imagine how much worse it would have gotten in future Konami games as they'd keep pushing it and pushing it to see how far they could go. We don't need another developer spreading that bullshit into $60 games and I'm glad that they're Hard Out.

Fuck Konami.

Uhh..there's currently no Bomberman on PS4...can we assume we won't get one now?

Seems like a staple for a console...

How sad.

I imagine they'll sell off KojiPro Los Angeles. What used would they have for them now?
I thought, after the stories of Kojima leaving, that the newly renamed Konami LA would make next Metal Gear using the fox engine. I guess their days are now numbered.

They cancelled one that was basically done on the 3DS a few years back. No one executes scorched earth policies quite like Konami.

They will probably only exist for as long as keeping MGO alive makes sense.

As expected. Im not really worried about the ips at this point. We have a lot of great up and coming devs giving spiritual successors a go. An example i can say is that PT like game called Alice or something. So i wont be suprised to see a great stealth shooter from someone down the line. Also Ubisoft still has Splinter Cell and maybe theyll reboot as well.

The fact that we'll never see a new Zone of the Enders or a sequel to Metal Gear Rising makes me so sad :(

Quite the contrary: without Kojima, quality is a wildcard and I doubt Konami would go with Platinum again, because money. After they shot down Silent Hills, they were dead for me.

As for your crazy hypothetical, it's hard to see Kojima making more Metal Gear if he kissed and made up with Konami at the very least. I'm sure he's sick to death of it.

Absolutely. My point was just that if a new Metal Gear for PS4/PC/X1 was on the cards again for whatever reason. We'd be back where we started from.

I don't think its unreasonable to argue that Kojima has been single-handedly keeping Konami relevant in the AAA space for years. So without him, and presumably a hardcore of loyal collaborators/lieutenants he's been with for years, I'm really not sure how many options Konami has to fall back on!

To me, it seems that Kojima is the one holding the aces here. And depending on how successful MGSV turns out to be, his hand could get even stronger.

Could this be one the reasons why Kojima left?

I mean, has he really done cheap games in the last 20 years? Every numbered MGS has been a massive undertaking financially speaking (it's easy to forget that MGS1 was a sink or swim moment for Konami as a whole), and I imagine that Peace Walker was probably one of the bigger budgeted handheld games out there, despite the obvious shortcuts. His kind of development is completely at odds with where Konami wants to be these days.

That was to be expected, no surprises there. The only thing that saddens me greatly is how PS3 is the only platform where you can play the entire MGS series, and PS3 is nothing but a distant memory in this day and age. Not having the series available on current gen, and especially on the PC is a huge shame... it's a series which deserves to be preserved and always be easily available.

It's a shame. Konami had a big impact on the video-game world and they seem content to leave it all in the past. They along with Capcom and Square were the best video-game developers in the world outside Nintendo in the 80s and 90s.

is beloved, despite what anyone might say
My 2 main games at the moment are MGSV and Suikoden Tierkreis, this company has been such an important part of my gaming ever since I was a child and I first played Life Force and Contra.

Oh well, MGS6: Slots of the Patriots and MGS7: The Phantom Pachinko should be fun...

What a damn shame. Like the company is imploding on itself, destroying everything it built up over the years for the easy fix.

I just want to say this: $80M is a fucking bargain for MGS5.

This is one of the best videogames ever made, and I will cut off and eat my own manhood if it doesn't bring in 100M in profits.

I loved you so much Konami. Why you gotta break my heart like this?

And why is it taking so long for someone to give Kojima a new Kojipro?

Because even though he's basically being told to sit at his desk and do nothing, he's still contracted with Konami through December.

Financing a 200+staff?

I can't comprehend Konami. They just started to build a new studio in LA and shortly afterwards and they just can it?

Because the guy is known to waste company resources? Even with his impressive resume that will hinder a company taking him on. Hell, Kojima may not even want to continue for all we know. Dude's already in his 50's.

They're really getting a lot of mileage out of the Fox Engine /s

Konami's new CEO must be the Square-Enix CEO's evil twin or something.

Those assholes said MGS will continue goddammit.

Is it wise to bank on pachinko Konami making a new MGS without Kojima?

Just the thought of that frightens me. The tender hooks of mobile bull in TPP would be magnified ten fold in a new MGS

Agreed again.

Kojima was the last prop holding up a collapsing Konami game division.

The one good thing I hope is MGS is a major financial success and Konami feel like idiots for making him leave.
But I'm sure the closure of $80m game budgets and casino money keeps all the Konami execs smiling.
