iOS Gaming September 2015 | GOing back to school with a backlog

I was going to download and test it and apparently it has been removed from the store. It's not even showing up in the purchased tab for me anymore. Do we know when this happened? It will be a shame if they aren't planning to put it back later.

The old link to the app:
https://itunes.apple.com/app/ghost-trick-phantom-detective/id489113377?mt=8

Curiously enough, the Japanese version is still up:
https://itunes.apple.com/jp/app/gosuto-torikku/id401594433?mt=8
That's not a good sign. :/

I still have it installed so it shows up in my purchases, but you're right that it doesn't seem to be in the main App Store. Maybe they're just playing it safe and making sure it works to avoid having a broken game on the App Store for 9 months or however long it was before they fixed it last time.

I still have the game on my DS thankfully, bu it would be nice to have it on my iPad too.

Warhammer: Arcane Magic is on sale for $3.99 (usually $9.99). I had my eye on it and had planned on picking it up whenever I finally finish Deathwatch, but am grabbing it now.

Woah this looks awesome. I need to buy it after work. Thanks for the heads up!

Why are games on iOS cheaper than the PSN store?
I can't see the reason to choose Calvino noir or Broken Sword 5 on my PS4 when there a lot cheaper on iOS.
After the boring MGS5 I'm close to selling my PS4 for an Air 2.

No one's going to be a $25 indie game on iOS, that's why

But year, indie ports are usually cheaper on IOS. For example, XCOM Enemy Within is $9.99

How is the iPad version? In the end I figured it would be a disservice to the game to play it on a phone since the screen is just so small.

I have the PS3 version on disc, I love the controller input but the load times are abysmal. I wonder why 2K did not include an install option for PS3.

Visuals are downgraded, but it controls great on iPad. But I definitely wouldn't play it on an iPhone

Huh, I was wondering where the iOS threads had moved to the other day, hadn't occurred to me they were in community. I used to be more active but life got in the way, but now I'm making way for my own mobile gaming time! So I've been once more taking a closer look at the scene, and that's why...

iOS GAF, I want your help!

As you all know, the mobile market is relentless and while everyday new games get published, everyday too old ones stop working and/or are removed from the app store, never to return.

I think that's rather sad, thinking of all the hard work that goes into each game, only for it to be pulled, never to be seen or work again.

As a consumer there's not much I can do to prevent this, since I can't become a whale for every F2P game that gets released, or buy each premium one.

What I can do, as someone who loves games, however, is to try and keep a record of the games that get removed, to honor the effort of those who made them.

That's why I made Service (servicend), a blog dedicated to preserving discontinued, or terminated mobile games. I actually had this whole idea yesterday and did it on a whim, so far I only have one post covering Bloodmasque, which you may remember as one of Square Enix's flagship iOS titles back in 2013. The closesu thing to this is Unseen64, but it's not really the same seeing as they are focused on cancelled and beta games, and only on traditional consoles and handhelds.

You can find it here: http://servicend.tumblr.com

Submissions are open, and I'd love to see more games, probably a bunch I haven't even played, there, by you. Off the top of my head I can only remember games made by Square Enix, since I'm a fan of them but also because they have ended the service or taken off several games off of their portfolio so far, yet other companies like EA or Sega have done the same lately, which is why I'd like to invite you to contribute if you'd like to, by writing a post about whichever game that has been taken off or has had its service ended, ideally that you've played.

All you need is a tumblr account and to follow more or less the same structure I did on the first entry.

If you wouldn't like to participate, but would like to see more of this, I'd also like your feedback about what can be improved or corrected on the site.

So basically games that were removed from the App Store?

Here's a good one: Project 83113

Pretty impressed with Arcane Magic so far. More card / board game oriented gameplay compared to something like Deathwatch. But still take strategy and planning. And what can I say, I love the fantasy environment too, blasting away monster with spells.

Got a Silver Award from PG, but there are some reviews complaining about the IAPs for gold in the game. However, I do see they recently updated the game to at least get rid of IAPs for the gems that heal you. And all the reviews after the update are positive.

Can't say yet if the gold IAPs will be necessary, but enjoying it so far.

EDIT: The just released another update. And looks like that price drop to $3.99 is permanent and they are compensating early adopters with 15,000 gold. I may have bought it just under the wire. But now, with that bonus, I'm not sure if I feel comfortable saying the IAPs won't be necessary for future purchases. It is still "premium" but giving that gold out makes me wonder if they were making up for those who thought the price was too high with those IAPs.

I'll try to post back if it looks like prices for things are more than you would normally collect in gold.

This is cool... Triblaster is getting a huge update to match the Steam version with a lot of new things:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4FWODSiueo

It’s been a while since I’ve had anything to say about TriBlaster. Two pieces of good news – I’ve now resumed publishing duties on my game and I have a fairly large update coming in the next week or two. Currently it’s pending a review in the Apple App Store and I’ll follow up with the Android and Steam versions later in the month.

So… what happened to TriBlaster2? A while back I was asked by the publisher (at that time BulkyPix) to make a unique version for the Nvidia Shield. That was called TriBlaster Remix. I’m not exactly sure what happened but that got released in the Google play store and could be downloaded for all compatible android devices. Unfortunately that was never my intention as it was built just for Nvidia Shield.

So, rather than cause confusion I wanted to get iOS, Android and Steam all on the same version – hence the name TriBlaster3.

TriBlaster3 Features:

– Updated branding
– Start new game where you left off.
– Updated gameplay mechanics (requires more skill to play)
– Remastered levels (updates and re-ordering)
– Added shot speed power up
– Added smart bomb weapon
– Improved aesthetic of “glowing” lines
– Improved enemy scoring attract demo

To celebrate the impending release on iOS; I’ve lowered the price. Keep in mind that this link is for the original TriBlaster. However, if you purchase this now you’ll get the update to TriBlaster3 as soon as it goes live.

^^ That's awesome! I love that game but it hasn't kept a steady spot on my device because it's insanely large for an arcade type game. Never got that.

But sounds like a great update!

Final Fantasy VI
The Brazilian description of the game talks about an issue where the game only displays the English translation on iOS 9 instead of switching to your device's language. It's not a major issue, but I'm fond of the FFIV and FFVI translation jobs on mobile and I'd rather play this run of the game in Brazilian Portuguese. I tested VI on my iPad on iOS 9 and indeed the game boots in English (there's no way to change the language in-game, unfortunately).

Looks like Final Fantasy V also has a similar problem.

Opening a link from Safari to the AppStore there's now small text in the upper left that says 'Back to Safari' with an arrow. Tapping that brings you right back to where you were in Safari when you clicked the link.

That's a beautiful addition to iOS 9!

So...uh...we might have a 2016 iOS GOTY already, because Jonathan Blow's The Witness is coming to iPad next year after the initial PC/PS4 release

Check out the new release date trailer and see what it's so awesome

- 80 to 100 hours
- Open world
- From the creator of Braid
- Inspired and influenced by games like Myst

That second-last shot reminds me a lot of... um... this open-world(ish) game that appeared on PC and Vita. Proteus (couldn't remember the name for a second).

Come to think of it, that'd be great on iOS, too.

Yeah!!! It's rapidly becoming my fav new feature.
On top of that...now all the apps that open safari links don't open a 'fake' safari anymore...you now open the full safari where you find all previous open tabs and stuff.
Seems a small thing but I'm loving it.

Oh I didn't realize that yet. I agree that's also a great addition!

And my battery life really has improved... Crazy!

I like Shadowmatic, but I wish it told you what you were trying to make before you finish the level. I don't know if they thought it would be too easy but I'm pretty much just spinning stuff around until I see something I recognize. When I finish a level I don't really feel like I accomplished anything, I just feel like I got lucky.

Well, if this runs on the Mini 4 I might just buy it there. Seems like a great tablet game.

This is a premium game, coming october 2015 to iOS.

So October's looking good already
- Huge 80 Days update
- Zodiac
- Prison Architect
- possibly Lumino City
- possibly Dropsy

Prison Architect is gonna be so good on mobile. I can't wait to dive in again, haven't checked the alpha in forever. Lumino City is extremely gorgeous too and will be right at home on iPad!

What was the last alpha feature you remember? The game has expanded so much

Noooooooooooooo, god dammit, Darkin lost its music on the transition to iOS 9 with no fixes coming... sad thing :(

I dont know what kind of computers wizards Chillingo has on their rooster because their apps withstand each iOS upgrade with ease. Never break, never loose sounds or music... nothing, working as if they just been released for iOS 9.... they should give their secret to other developers...

Also, finished Tiny Guardians,-a reversal Kindgom Rush-... without GameCenter... :/

I'm sure most of you have read the numerous blogs blasting Apple for allowing ad blocking apps that will hurt especially small websites, including many gaming ones.

And I agree with their rage - in part. I absolutely don't mind ads on websites and think it is important for the Internet at large to continue to be able to monetize.

However, some of these apps, such as Peace, which has already been pulled due to the controversy, have tools to block trackers.

And frankly, I also am absolutely in favor of that kind of blocking. This day and age advertisers need to come up with new ways of catching people's eyes, but the need for digging into people's lives is ludicrous and frightening.

I hope to see apps that specifically fight against that technology. Websites need to make money and I wholeheartedly agree. But they shouldn't have to do while allowing advertisers to get data on our every move. And that includes the biggest offender around, Facebook.

So now Konami has "officially" announced a mobile only future. We'll see if we get another apology a few weeks from now.

I haven't gotten Metal Gear Solid 5 yet, but while I am all for mobile gaming, it will be sad to see games like this no longer produced for consoles and PC.

I realize mobile gaming has come a long way, but there's still something to be said for playing on a big screen and think it still is years before we will be able to play a game on the scale of MGS5 on mobile.

Not exactly gaming related, but is anyone on iOS 9 having difficulty turning cellular data on for apps? I had cellular data off for certain games when I upgraded to 9, and now they won't stay switched on after I leave the settings page.

Thanks!

My 5s is smoother than butter on iOS 9! I couldn't be happier. Well, with a 6s+ I might be...

I'm a huge Star Wars fan but Uprising did nothing for me. Didn't like the F2P aspect and it looks like every other Kabaam game.

I had this problem on android once, a simple reset of my phone fixed it.

sounds like a reset could help you too.
