Gran Turismo 6 Course Creator Releasing Tomorrow, first details

TheSeks

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
Full corner/course control and the ability to place the decorations yourself seems like the biggest step-up from GT5's course editor.

What happened to that rumored "be able to GPS the road you're on and take it home to drive on" feature?

It's unfortunate that they announced something that hasn't been put into place for so long, but I can't imagine the engineering variables for something like that.

So it's better to simply stop a large chunk of players from being able to use it at all rather then risk everyone being able to enjoy it but have to use a controller?
No, not better. But I don't think PD would have been able to make a decent course maker that works from within the game (GT6). At least now some of us will be able to make use of the course maker.

Working on a Nexus 9. Really well put together app, look forward to see what people create with it. Hoping they take it even further with elevation controls in gt7 or something.

Installed it on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 (T530), then pulled files back into .apk. Then installed and tested it with european variant of Xperia Z2 (it wasn`t available for Z2 straight from Google Play Store). Everything works - from tutorial to upload, my PS3 recieved track in an instant.
Enjoy:
Track Path Editor_1.0.0.apk - 38.65 MB

It works now on BlueStacks. Like notoriousKTR said it was just a region issue.

EDIT: Also have it working on my 2014 Moto G by installing the apk file.

Can't seem to use the reference image or kml. I get to the folder and see the file but nothing happens. What is the trick?

That's strange addition considering the game has been out for a long time and never sold well.

Still really cool. I loved Modnations track editor so would love to check this out although alas I don't have GT6.

Hope its a feature that is there at the beginning of GT7, would be cool.

Also was there not rumours ages ago that you may have been able to build a car on GT6 early on in development but was scrapped? We need that.

That is not a fair statement. GT6 sold below expectation relative to other GTs but sold really well in general, especially for a title from Japan. GT5 Prologue alone covered all the cost of development for GT5 and 6 and maybe 7.

OK : I know this feature has been promised and promoted since the game annoucement but why so late and why waste time on this when we already have 2 Forza Motorsport available and no sign whatsoever of GT7 ?

GT6 is a failure sales-wise and quality-wise : Just let it die already Kaz.

We want a proper current gen Gran Turismo so don't waste time on this.

It really seems we won't see it before 2017 which is a shame.

I don't know why people keep repeating this with no factual information, it didn't do well on NPD? Big deal, the franchise never did well in the US, most of its sales were always in Europe, the fact is that more people play GT6 online daily than any Battlefield game or most Call of Duty games, & that's with Gran Turismo being more popular for its offline mode. GT Academy is also the biggest eSports event in the world by a huge margin.

GT6 likely won't sell like GT5, & it won't come close to 16 million units like GT5, but that is par the course, the second entry in every generation always sold less than the first.

That looks like a terrible mash up between Suzuka Circuit and the Forza 3 Sidewinder Proving Grounds.

It's seems you can pretty much draw any track you want. As long as it fits within the near 6 mile size limit and has no overlapping track sections. (No tunnels or bridges unfortunately)

Just for the hell of I drew a track in the shape of the Tri-Force, just because it's possible.

While not exactly the most inspired idea for a track, the fact it can be done makes for some interesting ideas.

Average number of entries for Seasonal Events Time Trials is more than 500.000 players

Since you can only have one result registered per account, it is amzing number of weekly active players

Regarding daily play, on Thursday August 27th, there was 148.430 players in the Quick Race at the moment I was online (all those people were online, accoring to in-game server count)

Also take into account there is probably more people playing regulary, since not all players are even trying Seasonal Events Time Trials or playing Quick Race

So yes, Gran Turismo 6 is still the most played racing game in the world, despite all doom and gloom

I totally forgot about the Complex String course.

Highly technical track. That was mainly used for one of the license tests, right?

In any case, I hope GT7 expands the range and it's possible to make something as big as the Nurburgring. I mean nearly 6 miles to work with is nice, but if they can make it 15, then pretty much makes it almost any layout possible even recreations of Nurburgring variants.

Yes. And those were the days that getting gold on all license tests could at times be very very hard, like on the Complex String course.

Best thing is this is out. First I heard about it and it's out! No months in advanced bullshit. How refreshing.

P.S. Maybe it was announced months ago and I missed it, but I love things that get announced and launch in a timely fashion and I hope this is one of them.

This thing is amazing.

I made this monstrosity just to try it out, going to try it out in the game later. Downloaded the .apk for my Xperia Z1 and it works perfectly. Arbitrarily locking it to tablets on the storefront is stupid.

I'll download that when you upload. :p

Made a p2p rally track on Death Valley with jumps and uneven pavement. The more anchors you place close together near the topology crests, you can create some nice jumps and bumpy roads.

Old Hockenheim Ring! Damn, that track was damn fast in F1 before.

This is awesome. As I said before, the possibilities are endless (insofar you keep your imagination within 10 kilometres, that is). Think of classic race tracks like Spa 1935, Südschleife, Solitude, Norisring, Rouen, Isle of Man ... At least PS4 shouldn't have problems with those.

Is there a possibility to rate custom tracks? Because, obviously, there will be quite a bunch of similar circuits around. And I like the idea of cherry picking those who work best.

I uploaded the apk to my dropbox: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u...or-jp.co.polyphony.GTCourseMaker-5-v1.0.0.apk

Was able to side load it into my Moto X. Therefore the tablet restriction is at the market level, not app level.

wait.... GPS functionality is not part of this? Was it not previously discussed that the course creator would allow you to drive on real roads with the app enabled and have your coordinates charted via GPS?

Or did I dream that?

It is a part of it.
Raw GPX/KML data can also be imported from compatible GPS devices.

https://www.gtplanet.net/gt6-update-1-21-now-available-course-maker-updated-car-sounds/

You can import satellite images and maps to draw over so I'm not sure how much use it will get but GPS functionality is a part of this update too.

Got the reference image to work but not the kml. I created a path on Google Earth and saved it as a kml. Am I missing something?

Is there any social/sharing aspect to this? AFAIK all you can do is download a map that someone else is hosting from a lobby online.

Click on the tracks to download.

What a pleasant surprise out of nowhere. Now it's almost guaranteed this will make it to 7 and PS4. There's no way it can't.

What I find interesting is that track maker allows you create any path you like within a preset distance, however this is all done outside the game.

The only piece you cannot change is the initial straight for the Start / Finish line.

Another game had a track creation function exactly like this. Being able to edit within an existing distance, unchangeable start/finish straight, etc.

However the difference between this other game and Gran Turismo 6 was you could create the course on the fly within the game by driving the route the course is made based on the path you drove within the game.

I'm talking about the PS3 version of Modnation Racers.

I thought Modnation let you put the start anywhere you wanted. It was literally a blank slate where you also shaped the terrain. Here it's preset terrain and you just shape the track.

I liked the Modnation creator a lot, for drivers, cars and tracks, I just wish it had a solid framerate.

Hmm...I'll need to load it up and see again. I haven't played it such a long time. I do know you could literally make any track based on the path you drove.

It would be cool to get a Modnation Racers 2 on the PS4.

Sorry for the double post, but I wanted to post this to bring attention to this image I found online.

For anyone who wants to recreate some real life courses in the game. Check out this large image of various world courses that fits inside the Isle of Man TT course.

A lot of major tracks from all over the world are listed here. Also the exact length for each course is shown in the chart below.

Use this and make some awesome recreations of real world tracks!

I would really like a new one, provided it's rock solid framerate. I bought that $5 kart racer, Beach Buggy Racing, and it's surprisingly solid. Tons of tracks, karts and drivers, upgrades to boot and super solid performance.

But you remember right. You would shape the land as you wanted in the Modnation creator. Then you could enter "track drive" mode and drove around creating the track under your feet. Then populate the trackside with stuff and done. But it gave you freedom both in landscape creation and track creation, which is truly the most advanced track creator I have ever played with.

Does anyone know where I can find a list of track information on various real world tracks.

I mean exact measurements of each straight, how long each curve is, track width. This sort of information.

I want to see I can faithfully recreate several major racetracks around the world.

I did try and make a Donington Park but it didn't turn out right, the track width correct at 10m / 32.8ft, but the length of 2.5 miles was way off since the one I made was closer to 3.2 miles.

You can see my terrible recreation of Donington Park here - https://www.gran-turismo.com/gb/gt6/user/#!/mypage/course/
