Nielsen crowns Halo 5 as most anticipated holiday exclusive, COD most popular multi.

The optimism around Halo 5 is kind of crazy. All I've read about 4 and the Master Chief collection was how terrible they were and here we are with the same dev taking a third crack at the same license. I'm not trying to shit on a game that hasn't been released, but I really hope it ends up meeting fans' expectations this time.

This holiday is looking like shit for all platforms....

Gotta be one of the worst fall lineups in the last 10 years.

For sheer number of high-profile games it is looking weak. I'll be putting a ton of time into Fallout and multiplayer Battlefront with friends, though, so it's all good. Besides, it'll be spring before you know it.

I'm glad the few games I am planning on picking up are large open-world affairs. Gives me more time to spend with Fallout and MGO. Depending on how I'm feeling come December, I may just pick up Xenoblade.

2001.jpg

I'd have to fake my own death to have time to play half the games on this list if they came out now. What an insane holiday for games.

The industry has changed. Only three of those games would be Playstation exclusive these days.

I don't get the negativity. Looking at what's releasing, there's some pretty damn good stuff heading our way, and not having a "only on" label on the box doesn't diminish them.

Assassin's Creed and Need for Speed top Battlefront.

It's weird isn't it? I think it's due to franchise recognition. Assassins Creed is well known, because we get one every year. Need For Speed is also pretty much an annualized series, except for 2014.

Battlefront wasn't a thing for 10 years now. Both games also happen to have a full Single Player mode, which Battlefornt doesn't have, so that could also be a factor here.

I know I've posted this like a million times but Halo is going to be big this year.

Gamestop recently said that based on the info they're seeing they expect Halo 5 to be the biggest seller of the quarter for them. (They're quarter runs from August 1st to October 31st) so what that means is that they expect Halo 5 to sell more in a week than any other game will sell during that period.

I wouldn't be surprised if the game has close to a 40-50% attach rate by the end of the year.

I hate that AAA shit. I'm just gonna get that indie darling battlefront

Why is it that posters like to refer as shit the popular games they personally dont like ?

Do cod players go on about japanese shit or Bayo shit or platformer shit ?

I dont get the hate, erverybody has different tastes.

If your a Tennis fan, then there is no need to call football shit.

Good games for their ganre are good games, liking the is subjective.

COD BO3 zombies will be massive this year, zombies has been a long wait and will sell ridiculous numbers, it will also be one of the better or possibly best horde mode zombie coop survival games on Next gen. The only competition in coop experience will be Destiny imo

Not really shocking when you think that the period ends October 31st. What else is it up against?
A lot of heavy hitters arrive in November.

I'm surprised Assassin's Creed and Fallout are both 95%. How is this even possible with all the Fallout hype and AC-fatigue?!?

I'm yet to speak to an Xbox One owner who isn't highly anticipating Halo 5.

The beta, the early TV ads, HtT, more TV ads, slowly releasing more info about the content on a weekly basis.

343i have played a blinder here and this is the most hyped I've been for a Halo game since 3 and I was MEGA hyped for that game!

19 days to go!

Yep, they got to me. I'm on this train, all in baby! There's only triumph or heart break for me now... flee as long as you still can!

Hmm I can't even muster an ounce of hype for Halo 5. I tried but it just isn't doing anything for me which is a first.

Rock Band 4 is looking like a bomba.

To a lot of people Rock Band 4 is a game that probably doesn't even exist. There's been very little notable coverage and marketing leading up to its release. Hell, it's release this week totally caught me by surprise. And I see none of the GAFers on my Twitter stream talking about it nor gaming media folks.

I think the point is that it's not up against COD and Fallout.

Well yeh. I mean it's no doubt that COD will absolutely smash Halo out of the park.

But what that means is that one week of retail sales for Halo 5 will be bigger than

1 month of MGS5
1 month of Destiny TTK
1 month of Madden
1 month of NBA2K16

So yeh, I can see how you say it's not a big deal. But what it does say is that Halo is still a big franchise.

I can only speak for myself and I am surprised how well Halo 5 seems to have recovered after the not so good launch of Halo MCC.

But I have to agree with the previous poster that if you look at the releases it isn't shocking, like it would be if it crushed the big multiplatform releases that sell every year. (LIke a Rockstar title does.)
It depends on the lense applied and with the amount of money they are throwing at the game in terms of marketing it should have a huge day 1.

Well they're up against every game which is selling August through October.

So literally every other game.

I don't think Halo would have a problem beating out anything that released in that period.
I can't think of any really big games that could beat it's launch sales. Forza 6 maybe? It certainly isn't going to be Until Dawn or Devil's Third.

Halo 5 baby, Halo fucking 5. If this game is critically acclaimed. 9.5-10. 90+ metacritic. Word of mouth is going to be huge.

shit man, dat lineup. PS2 <3

Depends what you mean by "absolutely smash Halo out of the park" multiplatform sales wise, OBVIOUSLY. But I think Halo 5 will pull more number than COD on Xbox platform. Despite COD releasing on 360 and One.

I have an X1 not buying Halo 5. I think I finished 2 chapters in MCC and haven't played it since it came out. Just kind of over Halo. However I did buy an X1 because it will eventually have games I can't get on other systems that I will want to play.

Xbox is Halo, Halo is Xbox. Why would you buy this console this generation if you didn't want Halo you know? The game is going to do gangbusters this holiday with a ridiculous attach rate I think. I know some die hard fans who swore off Halo, even after last year's MCC release are planning to take a day or two off to play Halo 5 at launch.

I have an Xbox, an Xbox 360 and an Xbox One. I have zero Halo games. I will have zero Halo games after Halo 5's release. The reasons I chose an Xbone this generation? The fantastic controller over the Dual Shock, Rare being Microsoft owned and my fiancée wanting Fantasia are the three reasons I chose Xbox One over PS4. If not for the last reasons, I would have waited longer for the bone to come down in price though. The only retail games I want to have (or have) that are released or announced so far are AC Unity, AC Syndicate, Rare Replay and Batman Arkham Knight (and Killer Instinct, but that's really just because it is a Rare franchise).

EDIT: Also: Great to see Yoshi's Woolly World so high up on the list, though I don't understand what the values mean. Surely not 100% of Xbone users said they anticipate Halo, or north of 90% of Wii U users said they anticipate Yoshi, right?

How in the world is Uncharted: The Nathan Drake collection an exclusive? They are ports of 3 games from the PS3...
Where else can you buy Uncharted: The Nathan Drake collection?

This seems pretty accurate though. Halo 5 is a monster release this holiday. Everything else is multiplatform. Fallout behind Call of Duty is sad to see, but accurate.

Halo hype goes hand-in-hand with Xbox success. Alas, not much hype here in Scandinavia this generation.

I'm personally buying an X1 just for Halo5 along with my brother who's doing the same, We switched from the 360 to the ps4 this gen and are more than happy with it.

But iv'e done all the Halo's on legendary so i'm not missing out on this. I'm sure i'll play other games on the X1 at some point like Gears.

Halo really is a system seller.

That is a real shame. You will have missed out on some of the best games of their generation, even when you owned the consoles they were on. Halo 1, Halo 2 multiplayer, Halo 3 and ODST in particular. I feel sorry for you.

No, I can play that collection of games on the PS3.
Go for it.

On a real note, I didn't even realize Uncharted: NDC was the only PS4 exclusive that drops this holiday, since Disgaea 5 is already out... Wow. X1 really has a great chance to make up some ground and wittle that gap down. Great way to kick it all of in a couple of weeks with Halo 5.

I have played some Halos, but I just hate first person shooters, so even if the games might be good, I just cannot appreciate that because I hate the concept and the controls.

I am a HUGE Xbox fan and I went the last 8 years on 360 without ever playing any Halo other than Halo 1 Anniversary. There was more than enough to keep me busy without ever caring that I missed out on Halo.

But that is changing. I have MCC, and I will play through 1, 2, 3, ODST, and 4 (and then Halo 5).... AFTER 343 fixes achievements for splitscreen play in MCC. I'm waiting on that before I dive in fully.

Have you been watching all the Halo 5 footage without sound? :p
Listen to "The Trials" track on YouTube. Or "The Light is Green".
