Chibi-Robo: Zip Lash Announced (3DS, October, side-scroller, Amiibo bundle available)

Damn it...I can deal with wacky stuff like that in a SaGa rpg, but here it just seems dumb. Is the soundtrack / general gameplay good at least?

EDIT: Key point from Destructoid -

All that wheel nonsense sadly soured Zip Lash for me, which is a huge shame because almost everything else about the game is fun and charming. The new platforming mechanics work well, the boss fights are exciting, and Chibi-Robo himself is as cute as always. I would have been content with this game had it not been for the awful Destination Wheel.

You know what? I'm still gonna roll with it. The core gameplay mechanics sound like they are pretty good. Hopefully its still moderately challenging because my n3DS has become an RPG machine. While that's not a complaint, its really easy to get burned out
especially when you're still in the 2nd labyrinth of Persona Q after 40+ hours on hard mode

It seems so. The gameplay and level design was praised in just about every review I've read and speaking for myself, I really love the tracks I've heard so far. The sound design in general is really nice.

Ooh, glad to hear it. Eager to hear what a CR platformer OST sounds like. Any idea who composed?

I have no idea, I can't find any info online about it. Will just have to wait til someone finds their name in the credits.

(It's your fault that I changed back :p)

Were the regular, OG DS ChibiRobo games any good? I wanna play previous ones in this series but not sure which one to get.

Sounds like the levels themselves are well designed and fun (barring some of the vehicle based ones), but progression is fucked. Seems like it's easy enough to get to where you wanna go but I really don't get why you couldn't just do one level at a time other than to artifically pad the game length if you're unlucky. Oh well... it's not really a dealbreaker but it is weird.

Oh man your avatar is so good.

Anyway, it's a definitely a weird gimmick (something I'd expect outta SaGa Frontier if it went side scroller) but if I'm able to muster up enough in-game currency to pay out of it, and get extra spins by performing well on a level, then come on guys, it's really not a big deal at all. (Provided moolah and extra spins are fairy and reasonably easily attainable without the game being a dick.)

Hrm

I was really torn, but ultimately I decided against my pre-order. It seems like it has some good potential, and it sucks to miss out on the amiibo, but I'm looking for a game with more personality and something that feels really unique style-wise, and this game just doesn't seem like it pulls that off. And that's a crime for this series!

It really bothers me that THIS will be the game that needs to succeed for Chibi-Robo! to stick around.

I was curious about this and then I read about the Destination Wheel and I honestly think that's enough of a turn off for me that I'll skip it. I've never ever been a fan of artificially extending game length through nonsense gimmicks.

It's not a bad game, guys. It's a solid platformer but has some minor issues scattered throughout. Plenty of stuff to collect and incentive to replay the levels. Yes, the Destination Wheel is cumbersome, but it isn't difficult to land on 1.

The issue too though is that I'm not really in the market for a platformer, TBH. Especially not with me having quite a few really solid ones to play (or play further).

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
I'll keep my preorder. Dell had a promo deal for $25 back, so it was basically $5.

$26 with Best Buy GCU, I went ahead and ordered it. Seems like a good game to chill with after the very consuming (in a bad way) MGSV and (in a good way) Destiny.

The whole wheel select thing seems like a minor inconvenience at best once I heard people who knew what they were talking about explain it.

Whoa. I need to get in on Best Buy's GCU. Does amazon price match?

With that destination wheel being so universally panned, I wonder if the game with get a patch like Code Name STEAM got with it's fast forward button.

How the heck did you get it so cheap. I have GCU and it came out to be after tax 34.14 did you use any rewards credit or anything

No idea about Amazon, but GCU is the best thing going right now for deals on new games.

I've also been pleasantly surprised with BestBuy.com lately. Free shipping and release day delivery.

Normally I'd do in-store pickup, but since they can get it to me release day the difference is literally just waiting a few hours.

Or Mario Maker's alternative unlock. I guess the alternative is already there with moolah, but wouldn't hurt to see it changed either way.

Destination Wheel sounds horrible

But I wonder if there is a save scum method of just exiting out of the game if you get a level you've already played.

One good thing is there is no real need to stress about missing collectibles your first time through since there is a decent chance you might replay the level again fairly quickly.

From what I've read of reviews people think the game is fun but some of the decision regarding mechanics like that drag it down.

Destination Wheel, as far as I can tell from watching videos, always gives you a 4 out of 6 chance of landing a 1, and you generally get what you press on, so you just need to time the button press while you're on red (color of 1 panels). It doesn't seem that hard to get what you want, though perhaps it's not as easy to do in practice.

Still a stupid mechanic though.

I don't mean to sound negative, but it looks like a download-only title. The submarine and balloon sections look like they'd be DLC for Streetpass Mii Plaza.

I wish they would've stuck with the original formula from GCN; I never got to play that one but it looks infinitely more entertaining & quirky.

Oh well...

I'm guessing he's talking about the regular edition of the game and not the Amiibo one. The regular edition would be $24 after discount plus tax.

Though at that point why wouldn't you send eight more bucks for an Amiibo?

OT is gonna take a bit longer, guys. I'm sick and can't really sit at the computer. Expecting to be done later today or tomorrow though.

Right, I got the amiibo-less version. I just have no interest in amiibo.
