Let it burn I say, they have been ripping us off setting rediculasly high price points on retail exclusives like the H:5 ultra 300£ edition for years, good riddance

After initially going all digital this gen, I've switched back to physical retail recently. I've also just received an email from GAME regarding their "sale".

Both experiences which have lead to me to believe absolutely FUCK ALL has changed about GAME or their business model since last time. Their approach to sales, prices on new stock and trade in values are routinely the worst on the high street.

Companies stop selling gift cards when they are going out of business, because then the gift card is useless.

I don't know if that's what he's getting at, though.
There was stink before when they stopped honouring gift cards. Could be that they're in a similar situation again and want to avoid the negativity, could be a problem with a supplier.

Examples? 10% off after putting 10 quid on the "retail" price? In typical Game fashion.

Interestingly, the Gamestation that closed down in the shopping centre near me when they were having rocky times before has only recently re-opened (with GAME branding now, of course)

Surprised they lasted this long. I guess the amount of shops they had then canned, the lack of highstreet competition after Zavvi gave up helped them limp on. Do HMV still exist ?

Won't miss them.

Gift cards seem to be available online. Regardless of what people think of Game, they are the last real nationwide high street store in the UK. They could definitely improve but losing gaming from the UK high Street would be a real shame.

Good riddance I say.
Shit all value for trade ins- clueless employees in every shop I've been in.

Yeah but they closed down a load of stores a couple of years ago.
I don't believe they are in any major trouble at the moment though.

Good gawd, I hope not... Otherwise I'll have to get £280 worth of Xbox credit, and digital prices are even worse than Game's!!

People buy a lot of gift cards during the holidays. The day after Xmas, like the majority of customers use them to pay for shit.

lol no they're not in trouble. how on earth did you come to that conclusion?

sounds like a shortage of gift cards that's all.

I've never heard of not selling gift cards being related to financial trouble.

I'd imagine the opposite (as in they'd be pushing gift cards hard if they thought they had trouble ahead. It's easy, risk free liquidity). Retailers are under no legal obligation to honour gift cards, it's just people giving them money and surrendering certain consumer rights.

I imagine GAME are doing OK in the short/medium term. They're still riding on the success of the new consoles, and they've done a lot of consolidation of their stores (there's far fewer high streets with two GAMEs now).

Long term is a different question, but I can't see them going under any time soon.

At least they don't owe me hundreds of pounds in unpaid commission now, like they did when they went into administration! That was an ordeal. Got paid in the end though.

If they're about to go bankrupt surely they'd want to sell as many gift cards as possible which they couldt hen hope people don't have a chance to redeem

I tried to trade some stuff in last week and was told that I couldn't put it on a gift card because there were none.

I asked why (instead of assuming they were going out if business) and was told that a manager somewhere had accidentally ordered ALL THE GIFT CARDS and they were having trouble rerouting them to other stores. He also told me they should have them soon. Luckily I was going to buy a few new releases within a few days and traded my goods in then.

Every store they have is profitable now. Every single one. I believe they're better than Amazon at selling DVDs and Blu-rays in the UK now and their prices are frequently equal or better.

All it took was putting people who actually know what they're doing in charge. Unfortunately this laser focus on profit means that they've pared their range of games down by a lot.

I don't like GAME either (why do we capitalise it anyway?) but someone else would just exist to separate these fools from their money if they didn't.

They have had some surprisingly good deals today, would add up. Last year at this time their prices were increasing generally.

They should just be able to print out a receipt with the code on for store credit, so if they didn't offer that alternative it does seem like something is up. Dunno what though.

Geezer behind the counter in the Yeovil store was proper rude to me. They charge crazy money. I won't miss them if they sink. Big shame for people losing their jobs though. Although perhaps not in that particular store so much

Fuck Strawberry
And not a single tear was shed. Fucker in my local tried to hard sell extra shit on my 8 yr old son until I stepped in and shamed the guy very, very publicly. I mean this guy was relentless despite my kid continually saying no thanks. Still makes me incredibly angry.

the sooner GAME die the better! I don't like being forced to use them for exclusive stuff that only they have. They fuck up orders, cancel orders if THEY fail to take the payment first time and generally conduct themselves like a bunch of incompetent amateurs.

I'm crossing my fingers for my Fallout 4 CE actually going through and being delivered without another colossal fuck up. If I'd bought it elsewhere I could just sit back confidently knowing that I'd actually receive it.

So yeah I hope they die horribly (nothing against the poor fuckers that work for them of course) but I just wish they'd just get it over and done with already.
