Xbox Elite Controller |OT| That's a paddlin'

Paddles are finally starting to click with me.

The degree of customization on this thing is really impressive. And it's very solid; the weight'll feel just right when I get the chat pad on it.

Brand new ones come factory charged with solar energy :p

Oooh, nice. Thanks

Haha that sucks. While the ones I got a few months ago said they were factory charged (by renewable energy) they still had to charge for an hour or so till the lights turned off. For some reason my controllers always report them as 80-60% charged for weeks at a time.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind!

I think I've settled on Boxer settings, top left paddle as sprint, bottom left paddle as switch weapon, top right paddle as jump, bottom right paddle as reload.

Gonna take some getting used to while I get my butt kicked before it becomes second nature.

Which sticks are you guys using? I was thinking about using the tall stick for my right analog stick.

I can't have mismatched sticks, that just feels wrong. Sticking to the default shorter ones for now.

My wife just surprised me with pizza for "Halo Day." O_O
LOL "Fuck cooking! We got shit to do!"

I tried this out for a little while in MCC since I briefly used Kontrol Freeks like...years ago and wanted to give the taller stick another shot. I'd have to get used to it all over again so I just put the standard ones back on for now.

Cross posting this regarding what my settings are for the Elite controller in Halo 5 specifically.

I'm on H4 controls on the Elite controller as well. The following buttons were mapped:

P3 -> A (so jump is on a paddle)
P1 -> LB (so boost is on a paddle)
P2 -> X (so reload is on a paddle)
P4 -> Y (so weapon switch is on a paddle)
LB -> B (so crouch is on LB, crouch is less important than boost imo)
RT -> Trigger stop engaged for less travel time to shoot
LT -> Sensitivity lower by 5 so I throw grenades on accident less

With this control setup I don't have to take my fingers off of the joysticks at all...once I retrain muscle memory to not move my right thumb toward the face buttons and memorize my layout (which is the easy part). Right now I feel like a bumbling moron trying to play, sometimes pressing paddles while still reaching for a face button. I know that I could be doing better out of the gate with just a default controller, but then I can also tell that when I get the paddle use as second nature I will be a better player than without. The minute amount of time being saved by not moving your thumb between face buttons and joystick, and the ability to aim while able to do other actions it should make a noticeable difference.

As far as the future ability to assign a paddle to take a screen shot or record video, it is likely tied to the 2016 programmable button feature of the chat pad.

When you look at the pages (amazon) for the chat pad, it specifically notes that this feature is coming 2016 and is not available at launch of the chat pad. One would think they will include such a feature on the elite.

Mid-2016, which is so painful :(

Edit: mid

The build quality alone makes the price, this thing is awesome. Still playing with the sticks and paddles trying to find the perfect setup. My brain just isn't wired for buttons on the bottom yet, starting with two reload and weapon switch for H5.

Should the headphone jack be working in Windows 10? I'm just using a pair of standard headphones, no mic.

edit: Oh, there it goes. Works fine! This controller is great.

Do you really think it feels much different, apart from the new pieces?

I find it sort of disappointing. I thought that maybe the buttons would have microswitches like a mouse, or at least the dpad would be improved. It kind of feels the same go me, with the added pieces of the paddles and hair triggers.

It's definitely an improvement, but I'm not sure that I think the build quality feels much better than the regular controller.

To me the weight of the controller feels much more balanced first off. The sticks feel just a bit more precise when moving them(the longer sticks are a god send btw) . Texture of the controller feels solid as well. I am comparing this to the Lunar White btw, which is no slouch. Just the general feel and precision it gives is light years ahead of any other controller out there.

Not exaggerating -- every controller outside of the Elite feels like a cheap toy to me now. This controller is amazing. The biggest surprise was the softer/smoother material. HUGE difference.

Can somebody please explain to me what hair triggers are?

There is a switch on the back for each trigger that cuts the travel distance of the triggers in half.

You can also change the settings within the app to modify the activation range of the triggers further. So you could have it consider only a very small amount of travel from base position be the entire 0-100 input range.

Playing DMC4SE on this is great. One of the bottom panels is shoot and the other is lock on allowing me to keep thumbs on melee and jump at all times. Maybe I can try mapping styles switches to them

triggers activate without being fully depressed (about halfway but it can be customised through the software too)

I see, thanks. Sounds pretty neat.

I really like the look of that d-pad. They should make it the standard on the pleb controllers too.

edit: make these a thing

Just got home and found my Amazon package in my room.

I just have to say this thing feels amazing, you people weren't kidding. Everything about it screams top notch.

Funny I've always liked the dome sticks on the Sony controllers. Enjoyed the dual shocks over the 360 and Xb1 (although the xb1 controller as a whole was beginning to grown on me over the Ds4) and I gotta stay putting the dome sticks on the elite feels weird. Going to stick with the short concaves for now.

Am I just crazy or can anyone else not tell the difference between hair trigger mode and regular mode?

Not sure how you can not tell the difference. It's pretty drastic. Fifty percent reduction in travel distance. It's incredibly noticeable for me.

Can you physically feel the difference or is it only evident in gameplay? I don't have a system to test with right now, but just clicking the triggers on the controller I can't feel any difference.

I can feel a difference and see it. Just look at the travel difference. Should be quite apparent.

Love mine. Have the short left stick and long right stick and am trying to adjust to the paddles. For $150 I would have liked the wireless adapter for it but whatever, it's still amazing. Little overwhelmed with how to map buttons though.

Absolutely you can feel it. Make sure you have slid the little sliders all the way. Hold the controller so you can see the trigger sink into the controller. If it's engaged, trigger will only go half way in. If it's not, the trigger will go almost all the way in.

I'm staring at this thing and I honestly can't tell any difference whatsoever. Nevermind, I'm an idiot. I was thinking it was modifying the paddles, not the triggers. Whoops!

Same thing for me. I did an online chat to express my disappointment and they refunded my shipping and extended my prime by one month.
