So just wrapped up Mission 6 and am done for the night. Great first impressions and can't wait to finish it tomorrow and then jump into MP. The gameplay is just absolutely fantastic, 343 really nailed it.

Disappointed with how many maps the plasma caster shows up on as a power weapon. Especially empire... Loved using the sniper on that map in the beta :(

But in general the weapon just feels shit... Thought I was really bad with it but no one else seems to go for it either so it must not be just me.

trick to the pistol is to hipfire (even at range) and strafe into your shots

pistol duels are so good

both the Hydra and Plasma Caster feel like the bastard children of the Grenade Launcher. THe latter has a cool Legendary version
on the last level though

I haven't given it a fair go yet but I'm not a fan of the weapon either. It feels useless in most situations, unless you get lucky in close quarter. If you find someone up close, I'd rather have an instance kill shotgun. If I spot someone far off I'll just BR them. It's good for getting groups clumped up I guess?

Does anyone else feel that the guns lack impact? The shotgun is pathetic sounding and lacks punch, and it feels like the enemies just absorb bullets before falling down.
Seriously? Nobody? I just killed an elite point blank with a shotgun and he just collapsed. There was no feedback at all.

I progressed a bit further so I can finally complete this. I am in disbelief... I have to fight 3 wardens..? So in total I have to fight him like 7 times?? Just copy and paste the most tedious boss fight over and over? Are you fucking kidding me right now? Holy shit!

So far the campaign is a 5 out of 10. Don't care about multiplayer.

Out of curiosity for the guys who rank this as their favorite Halo. Why??? How can overlook such a bad design flaw!? 3 years of development and we getva game that is worse than Halo 4.

Any of you nerds know how to get the Legendary visor? I beat the game on Legendary, does that not do it anymore?

Do I have to gamble? If that''s the case I might just buy the MC controller.

This is best controlling, best feeling FPS I may have ever played. Everything is so responsive, the rumble for each gun feels fantastic..

Many more thoughts later, but initial impressions of the gameplay for multiplayer is very positive.

Did they tone down the aim assist since the alpha? Seems tougher to kill people than in the alpha...or am i just getting old?

Yep Aiming is definitely harder to do especially with the pistol, you'll probably get used to it the longer you play.

Since ground pound is linked with the button I say good with B no longer being melee

though it saddens me that I can't use recon ever again because of it..... maybe if I ever get the Elite controller

People throwing campaign spoilers around like candy today. Some people don't want to see any hints, tag stuff like this.

Man, that blood gulch remake looks amazing for being Forge. That CE magnum looks sweet, but are they kidding me? If I got it, I'm not going to use it only to lose it to some random who takes me out.

I don't even like using SAW reqs because I might lose it quick. Gonna hoard all of these.

Up to mission 10 on Legendary and I am loving the hell out of the game. Enjoying the story so far too, so maybe I benefit a lot from being into the expanded fiction? Non-combat missions are really enjoyable as well. Legendary is tough as nails but oh so rewarding. The play spaces are absolutely huge. One benefit of my numerous deaths in Legendary is that I get to see how many different options there are for each play space. Hint - there's a hell of a lot more than you think there would be. I think this is a campaign that people will enjoy more as they up the difficult and realize those possibilities.

So far, as far as sandbox is concerned, this is my favorite Halo. What design flaw are you referring to?

My main thought playing through the first two story missions are "Boy, those things everyone does in the cinematics look awesome, I sure wish I could do those."

Seriously. It's like "Watch your characters do this awesome shit! Now go clean up some trash...and then watch even more of it!"

Also it drives me nuts how, just like in Halo 4, a LOT of presumptions are made that the entire game universe already knows things exist that are completely new to players going through Halo 5 for the first time.
Nobody freaked out about the kraken, and nobody freaked out about the forerunner soldiers

Warzone is really fun though.

Also, as someone who has played Halo since day 1, I am having a ton of trouble aiming in Halo 5. The aiming system is a lot stiffer and aim assist works different than I'm used to. Doesn't help that the Xbone controller's sticks are looser than the original xbox or 360 controllers, too...

Level design-wise it has some of the best encounters in the whole series. Blue Team in particular is one of the most varied and fun missions in all of Halo.

My biggest complaints are the jumbled nature of the story and ending, and the lack of vehicle sequences overall. Forerunner enemies, while much better than before and presenting a fun and different style of combat, still need a bit of work too. In particular I don't really enjoy their weapons as much as the human ones.

In years once the sting of some of the story decisons and locke to chief ratio have worn off, I think people will look at it extremely fondly.

Same, I can't even play arena because of this.

Ok, I give up. Xbone newbie question:

I like to use nice headphones for gaming. On 360, I used to just set chat audio to go through speakers, and let the basic headset chill around my neck to use the mic. How do I do this on the Xbone? I can't seem to find the appropriate audio option.

You can definitely do awesome stuff in the game. Sliding through an enemy as he dissolves from a legendary shotgun through the face, jump to boost, to hover, to headshot for example.

The DMR is insane. I don't remember it being so good in the beta. The pistol speed has been reduced hasn't it?

EDIT: I feel like this game needs a Multiplayer OT.

Would love a multiplayer OT with some tips on the weapons. A friend and I hopped into a custom to do some weapons testing and practice jumping on Orion and I found some interesting stuff (DMR can kill with 4 headshots and 1 body shot and still gives a "Perfect"). I suspect there's a lot more knowledge like that which would be good to have catalogued somewhere.

Maybe I was just playing too much destiny but I would love to see some breakdowns for TTK of the main weapons in Arena multiplayer and how many crit shots are needed for the ideal TTK.

Story seems pretty straight forward to me so far, but I'm only on mission 10. And yeah, I am a bit bummed I don't get to play blue team as much, but I'm still having tons of fun with Osiris.

Honestly, I feel like difficulty balancing is the biggest flaw so far for me. Heroic was far too easy, with enemies that barely dodged out of the way of fire and teammates who were seemingly impervious to enemy fire while rescuing me. On the other hand, Legendary is a tiny bit too brutal with the limited amount of health you have and the accuracy of even the lowest level grunts. Hopefully Skulls will help find the sweet spot between the two.

Wow... At least for me, I'm at the start of mission 3 on legendary and I've been picking up the intel and exploring and already got 3 hours. Granted that's not going to for everyone but it seems the SP will last a decent amount for me at least.

I might be in the same mentality as I'm in Titanfall. I have a full deck of all rare burn cards there that I don't want to use.

I don't doubt that you can and I'm sure there will be situations in later missions where this comes up. But it definitely leaves a weird taste in my mouth to see that awesome stuff in the first mission but the actual playable areas are just kinda killing trash mobs.

A boss fight against Jul would have been awesome and I seriously don't understand why it doesn't exist.

I believe using the Kinect microphone is the only way to do that, otherwise Xbox party chat always goes through the headset.

If your good headphones have 3.5mm plugs Microsoft does sell a stereo headset adapter for the controller (new controllers have a 3.5mm built in) although the obvious downside is that the wireless sound quality may be worse than whatever you are using now.

I think that's the same level I wall-glitched through, ended up falling through space to my death.

So I loved Halo 1-3 but hated Halo 4. Does this Halo seperate itself enough from 4 for me to enjoy it?
Multiplayer is great. I'm not sure what about halo 4 you hated but this doesn't have some of the more disliked features of halo 4 multiplayer like flinch or score streak rewards.

It's been a while since I played H4 campaign but I think this campaign (I've played about 75%) is pretty good from a gameplay perspective.

I can't imagine how you do a boss fight against him, he is just an ordinary elite, not some super-power wielding guy.

The Plasma Caster feels like a weapon designed to take down vehicles. So good in BTB and Warzone but doesnt seem like it belongs in arena.

Probably need to find some pro using it on stream and see how they're using it... But as a power weapon it feels so underwhelming to me so far.

Crawlers were more interesting when they knew how to crawl on walls (but I sure am glad they lost the ability to carry binary rifles in their mandibles) and they're harder to kill now since you actually have to aim at their heads with Halo 5's fixed aim assist.
The Prom Knight armor breaking off looks nice, but they're unbelievably boring. They hardly ever move anymore. I expected the new ones to act closer to Hunters, not turrets.

Overall they're more varied and less frustrating, but they're not improved enough to justify encounters with them taking up so much of the campaign.

Not in my experience. On the
Elevator Sequence on Meridian
they were chasing my butt down. Incredibly thrilling fight.

OK, yeah; the aiming in this game is completely ruining the game for me. Why the hell couldn't they leave the same aiming as was found in the alpha? It wasn't perfect in the alpha, but it was damn fun. Now it's just a sad state of affairs.

Gameplay feels incredible compared to Halo 4. Smooth and engaging. I do not know if you enjoy the story, but you should love the overall gameplay aspect.

And the multiplayer is so much fun. I just can't wait for my Elite controller to hopefully arrive today.

I feel like Match Making is weird... Like sometimes it's like: "Yeah the enemy team is of similar skill level" and then other times it's like: "Wow it's clear they pitted much more experienced players against a fairly new team."

Worse when it's clear the enemy team is a match made and my team isn't.

Yup. my team in my last match was all 3's, enemies were 10 and up. That doesn't seem fair at all.

Anyone disappointed by the multiplayer map variety? The midship remake is great and I like the layout of the other levels but they are all mainly indoor, industrial type levels (with the exception of some covenant style levels). Where are the open, outdoorsy looking levels from previous Halo games that take place more in a natural environment? I'm talking about levels like beaver creek, valhalla, blood gulch, sidewinder, sanctuary. It seems that that style of level is totally missing from the game. What's going on? The current maps are all small maps that without any vehicles.
