Uncharted 4 multiplayer will have no dedicated servers

Wow, really? No dedis with all of that shit going on?

I think I'll be renting this...Campaign will be amazing no doubt but damn, I was looking forward to decent dedis...

This post isn't by me, it's by a guy with the same username as me.
Dedicated is all pretty and good for the players living in the US and some parts of Europe and i think Australia.

For those other gamers that are far from the servers the experience isn't as much different than P2P. I'll risk saying that for us in south america is preferable to have P2P with local players than dedicated using U.S servers.

I am pretty disappointed. I know I shouldn't have got my hopes up since they've always been p2p in the past, but I guess I was just hopeful. P2p isn't a huge deal, and it won't really diminish the experience that much, but dedicated servers is pretty much always preferable.

Must've accrued some budget cuts along the way if they're resorting to 900p with no dedicated servers.

Now this is a ridiculous. No ND game has had dedicated servers so this really isn't all that shocking. It sucks but it's not surprising.

As for 900p=budget cuts, I have no idea how to even tackle that doozy.
But please show me ND or Sony's budget plan that led to this.

Sony should be doing a little better. At least have your showcases, your first party titles, have that Premium.

They will be asking for money with micro transactions, PS+, but can't give back with something basic as dedicated servers? Crazy.

I'm not a multiplayer person, one of the reasons I don't is because

a) skill gap and b) crappy online performance just makes it harder to learn

I.e are you learning to play the game, or learning the exploits from shitty net performance.

Quickest way to turn me off a multiplayer game is to have random teleports and me trying to kill someone while they dissappear.

This isn't surprising but it would be nice if Naughty Dog let some of that microtransaction wealth trickle down to the consumers. I think Halo 5 and Destiny are getting free DLC; ND could have given us dedicated servers. Their games always suffer from lag issues.

Oh man, this is so frustrating. The amount of times I've ran for cover, pressed O to duck, and then been downed despite being 100% covered is insane. There's always a delay in what you see on your screen and what the enemies see, most noticeable when you view your teammates cameras when waiting to spawn in. They'll be shooting a dude and getting hit-markers...but the bullets won't even be hitting them. They'll be trailing behind. And when you get executed by a sniper rifle and the stream from the bullet is nowhere near your body. Oh, and when you see a bomb under some cover, decide to sprint and leap over the cover to set the bomb off, only for it to down you when you've cleared it and are safe on the other side. So much BS.

Obviously dedicated servers wouldn't just miraculously fix these issues, but it would be much better.
ND online games use 15 Hz tickrate (including TLOU MP on the PS4).

Increasing it to 30 Hz minimizes the issue that you're describing. ND did it for a weekend and it was glorious. No getting shot behind cover BS.

The downside is that it requires more upload and some people have pretty shitty internet ("waaah, I paid $60 for this game, the white plug of doom is not fair!")... :|

They could easily use a ping filter and kick these people from matches but they won't because they want as many players as possible and if players get kicked they'll stop playing.
Tell me about it:

ND always panders to laggers... :( what's the point of having 60fps in the graphics engine if the networking engine (aka netcode) works at a much lower rate than that?

If you're charging people to play online games, make the servers dedicated, otherwise, what are you charging me for?

That was a question we asked MS for 11 years, too, when all online games were p2p on Xbox. I think some of their exclusive games are still p2p, actually.

Free Competitive DLC maps at the very least. And make them mandatory via a patch.

I think a popular justification back then was party chat and UI features, if I remember correctly lol. I guess today it would be free games :p

Nope. All Xbox One exclusives thus far have been entirely on dedis, with the exception of MCC which had a p2p fallback.

what's the point of paying for online then?

Uncharted 3 had this as well.

I prefer PS+ (the lesser of 2 evils), because I can trade in games without caring about passes.

Pretty much, I hate dedicated servers when they are far away and most people are closer than me to the server it's awfull, black ops 3 beta sometimes was terrible.

Yup, people will always find reasons to justify the things they like.

I assume the same reason that MS has the past 13 years: to get money.

I don't remember it ever being said that dedicated servers were going to be a PS Plus feature this gen.

Expected, but it still sucks. I've never been big on Uncharted multi, and this one probably won't convert me. Still buying day one for the story, though.

Ah, my bad, I thought Sunset Overdrive was p2p during game play and KI was, too. But it's been a long time since those came out, so I'm probably not remembering right.

Why do I suspect majority of those complaint about P2P combined with paid online helped establish the model as acceptable by paying for Live and mainly playing P2P games.

I always prefer dedicated servers myself and I've always argued that the market was advocating paid fees for too little in return so I'm not feeling like the cause here.

As for U4 specifically given every ND online from Uncharted has been P2P this was surely expected?

This is not true. Dead Rising 3 and Killer Instinct use P2P, and many have alluded to Gears Ultimate using the hybrid system which mostly relies on P2P as well. MCC uses a similar hybrid set up afaik.

Hah. PS+ the lesser of 2 evils compared to network pass. Incredibly cute.
As I said, I can trade in games without caring about voucher codes -> the games don't lose that much value.

It's fine if you don't care (digital-only purchases or no trade ins), but I do. Different strokes for different folks.

Was Uncharted MP ever any good anyway?

I always found myself loading it up and then thinking, "why am I playing this when I could be playing Gears". I remember it being distinctively average.

The new one looks OK, but the super powers stuff is awful IMO.

As for Dedi's, depends how good the service is anyway. P2P can be okay if you are getting matched with local people. Dedis become pointless if they start grouping Euro's with Mericans for example.

It's all about the quality of the matchmaking.

Ah, oh well. At least I'll have Battlefront for my MP fix. I'll just play enough for the trophies. I haven't enjoyed UC multiplayer since pre-patch Uncharted 2.

Preference I guess. Like me when I load up Gears UE and then thinking "why am I playing this when I could be playing TLoU"
