Nintendo Strategy Briefing 2015 thread (Nintendo discusses smartphone title Miitomo)

I just don't see a social networking app doing well for them, given how many already exist and it's not what Nintendo is known for. I can't see many people who don't own consoles or such being attracted to such an app, tbh. I don't feel it takes advantage of Nintendo's strengths, or what would draw people to a Nintendo app

It isn't much of a social app per se, think of it more like a Sims-lite kind of thing.

I think it could be a hit in Japan, actually. Since it seems like Sakamoto's team is handling it, I definitely think it's going to be something worth checking out. Sakamoto's games have a knack for being weird but also really interesting.

This was already posted, but not at this resolution. Yeah, this Link render is a pretty dead giveaway:

There it is.

Wow he looks awesome! This is the real megaton of today's announcements. If TPHD looks as colorful as Link on that render then hnnnghhhhh <3

Of course if TPHD exists in first place...

No, but if you are only making five or so games in the first year, you would think you would want to maximize your potential gains for each and every one of them. And if conversion is your goal, I don't know that a Mii game is the right one to use to aid in accomplishing that particular goal.

Could be that. Guess we'll see how it turns out.
I think the "conversion" strategy will actually start with the NXs launch. The things coming before that are just to set things up and get audiences that aren't familiar with Nintendo, familiar.

I do get why. But I can't see this drawing anyone in. I don't see that many people being interested in a Nintendo social networking app, and so I don't see it attracting people to their devices
See their tomodachi IP. These games do good numbers for them because of the casual appeal. Making an app out of tomodachi life is going to do very well for them especially since it's free to play all and all about that social/customization aspect.

That's odd that the new Link render is specifically referencing old TP Link artwork (the pose is the exact same) in the slide if it's merely meant to represent SS Link -- why do a new render of Link in the SS style with a TP pose when the other renders in that slide are old (such as DK, for instance) if TP HD isn't going to use that art style? Very peculiar.

Well, at least people who said it wasn't the old TP artwork pose are wrong now. :p

I dunno I feel like a ton of people don't actually understand why certain games become hits with the casual phone crowd. This could be a hit and shock the crap out of people. All comes down to features and how it works.

People saying weird/bad choice with Miitomo are like the one saying similar things after the Tomodachi unveiling for the West last year. The game sold (and is still selling) well despite most of its core target being sucked by mobiles.

It's a good choice.

This doesn't seem much like tomodachi life at all besides miis and some aesthetics. The fun of tomodachi life was seeing miis of yourself, friends, and celebrities act in really weird and zany ways. I can't see that happening in a social networking app

It looks like his Smash model in the TP pose

It was introduced as an "SNS". In other words, social networking service. This isn't a tomodachi life

Mr. Miyamoto chimes in on NX. “We are going to be far more aggressive in using our IP, and not just stop with licensing, as in the past. The first example is Amiibo. We want our IP to better reach more children, and smart devices is just one vehicle.”

Buy games to earn points, and use them to get digital content, original goods and discount coupons.

Are those Mii costumes? I'm guessing Miitomo will have microtransactions for Mii costumes and that the Miis will be attached to your Miis on NX through the new account system.

Its not a press conference, what did people expect?
There are always people who come into any kind of meeting with high hopes only to leave disappointed. There were a bunch of people in that Sony Paris thread yesterday expecting E3 and complaining that it wasn't good enough the whole time.
