So, does this have skill like the old games, and do they level up like skills in skyrim or do you still pick em individually?

I have no idea what my character build's gonna be. Guess i'll just freestyle it... and inevitably regret it later

Could be, though I'm thinking these layered armor pieces (inventory screenshot, nothing too spoilery) you can wear over clothes such as the vault suit could also fall under that category.

@Thriller: yeah you could do that too, naturally. And I don't much care for melee either, in Bethesda games melee combat always devolves into flailing wildly until either you or your enemies collapse.
Yeah, but I don't think they can have mods. Hope we will get info on that soon, otherwise I need 3 strength at some point. Tho, nothing beats 7 agility / 7 luck in terms of damage.

I'd love to know if there are items in the world that can increase your skills and special. I know we don't know what the bobbleheads do or how skill books work but those always play into my initial stats.

Skill books and Bobble Heads work the exact same from what I have heard...

I can't see Red Rocket without thinking of South Park unfortunately

I'm trying to decide if devs at Bethesda did or didn't think it through when they put Dogmeat at Red Rocket station, it's where you find him like we saw in E3 video. And this was even before I knew South Park made episode on what red rocket is used to refer to, it's quite well known term after all.

Neither.

You have 10 Perks that fall under each of your SPECIAL Attributes, so 70 Perks in total. Most perks have several ranks within them equalling up to some 275. At the game's start you get 21 points put into your SPECIAL attributes. Whatever number you have in each attribute gains you access to those perk in that category. So if you have 5 Strength you can choose to select any of the 1-5 perks in Strength, but not 6-10.

At level up though you can choose to increase a SPECIAL attribute instead of selecting a Perk.

Look here for a view of the Perk Chart.

People like flavor text.

And what are you talking about? Nothing I've seen from this game is showing me that kind of flavor text or interesting conversations and asking questions. It's very obvious the entire dialogue system is significantly dumbed down.

Great. Now you get it through advancing the conversation.

And we have still ONLY seen dialog with quest NPC's. We have yet to see anyone actually talk to a random NPC hanging around Diamond City. Go take a look at the dialog with Codsworth or. . .Dogmeat. They don't fit into these neat little "Good", "Bad" or "Neutral" boxes people think all conversation fits into.

Question for the people who have seen the gameplay videos that were leaked earlier.,..

Graphically speaking (lighting, animations, overal PQ) is that similar to the E3 footage and the trailer that showed building interiors with nice lighting and such? Cause that to me look good enough. But all this ''It looks so bad'' stuff is not sounding too great.

NeoGAF is synonymous with hyperbole.

Game looks fine, and pretty much like e3,but I think e3 was on pc build because some textures in console leaks look a bit low. Might be fixed with day one patch but overall looks fine and uses anti aliasing. Looks great indoors and out IMO.

Can 770 2gb handle 1080p 60fps?

The minimum is apparently a 550Ti while the requirement is a 780. So ima say yes but not all maxed out, but who the fuck knows at this point. I have a 4GB 680 but wont play this game until the newest cards drop later this year or next year.

What the fuck? Why does the protagonist
speak to her like she's a dog? "Get 'em"
.

Fallout voice acting, man.

EDIT:
Wait, is that the video recorder's voice? I can't tell.

Definitely the protag talking after watching it again.

We already know skill books are changed because skills don't exist to increase.

In Fallout 4 they're basically perk books, with each one granting a rank in a unique perk line you can't purchase from SPECIAL.

Right, I think there's something to be said for trying to change the way conversation trees work in RPGs. In games with tons and tons of options and the ability to go back up to a previous "folder" of choices, the pace and tone of dialogue can sometimes feel really weird. Likewise, being able to read an entire response before choosing it arguably makes it too easy to "win" conversations in games by laying out all the options for you explicitly. These are the kinds of things Alpha Protocol was trying to address, which is why I think that game is so interesting (even if it is pretty dire as an action RPG).

I don't think the way Fallout 4 is handling it is a good compromise, though. From what I've seen we're not really gaining anything tangibly better in terms of pacing, tone, or writing quality here.

I agree. I think the goal was to keep the player immersed in the game world by minimizing hud impact, but if the trade-off is less dialog options that's a huge downer.

Besides, the VA'd protagonist does more to hurt immersion than anything else. It it means more Fallout fans (and therefore, more Fallout games), I guess I'm for it.

Yeaaaaah......i sure noticed that when the first PS4 screenies leaked, sure it didn't look too hot but folks were throwing around things like ''Looks like a PS2 game, looks like a 360 game, barely better than Fallout 3'' and some even downright disrespectful.

I'll just wait and see for myself. Not long now.

Pascal is at least 9-ish months out, and it's next GPU generation that will be released.

I hope Pascal is worth the wait. I've been looking at 980ti but was told to wait.

And when Pascal is out and you are about to purchase it people will tell you to wait, there is Pascal 2.0 just 12 months out at that point ;)

I asked Pete Hines [@DCDeacon] if he has any information about when GMG is going to get keys for delivery. He said that plan is to give keys to GMG around same time as preload goes live on Steam, so I would guess 6th - 7th.

One thing I wonder with this type of perks. What do you think about DLCs though? How will they add new perks like before? And do you think there will be quest perks? Like if you complete a quest a certain way you get a special perk?

Yeah having the character voiced pulled me out of being immersed faster than UI ever could.

I don't see why DLC would need to add perks and new SPECIAL ranks. Just add new awesome gear and crafting recipes along with quality story content and it would be more than enough, imo. After all you will keep leveling up during DLC and if you haven't grinded XP like motherfucker there is no way you are decked out on vanilla SPECIAL.

I don't know why but im pissed off at the crappy reactions to combat. In typical Skyrim fashion, there's nearly no damage modeling or physics.
