It was always fun to stare out while having a smoke outside between drinks.

Wow, I visited Seattle for the first time just a few months ago, and I just happened to stumble upon the Gum Wall while exploring parts of the city.

It was...neat, to put it one way. Now it's being steamed away? Good thing I saw it in person when I did.

that is ridiculous, good thing they are getting rid of it. Reminds me of this terrible fad of putting locks on bridge rails, that is nasty and dangerous since often these rails fall apart. At least this gum wall isn't hurting anyone but look at this, what kind of person does it take to vandalize a bridge like that?

Which is...?

It is a contraband if I am not mistaken

I've added a few pieces of gum to that during my trips to PAX Prime. Guess I'm just gonna have to add more next time I visit.

Yeah I immediately thought of that too. It's the kind of things that tourists will want to do "for fun" while they're here, and locals watch and think "wtf are you doing, stop ruining my city !".
It's time we organize lockpicking contests and record them, to show tourists what happens to their "romantic" padlock they hoped would stay "for eternity" attached to a bridge.

I feel like I need to learn lock picking just for this reason alone. Would be a great way to spend an afternoon, just cleaning up my city of these ridiculous pad locks and believe you me there are a TON in my city.

The gum wall is(was) awesome! I stuck a bit myself there, and my sister put some candy chaos emeralds on the wall.

Seems like someone would just cut the locks and sell the metal for scrap.

An entire building with Herpes. Worst part is it's a steep and slippery street with piss and stink and hobo detritus and people fall on it in the rain or ice, and land in HERPESGUM. Or accidentally lean on the wall. Or touch it as they grab for purchase.

This reminds me of that bridge in Paris that people would put locks on as a sign of their unbreaking love bonds that they had to forcibly remove a few months ago because it was literally weighing the bridge down.

They're replacing it with plexiglass to prevent people from doing it anymore.

Except that locks are less prone to being full of diseases. They're just heavier.
Aw, they took that out? I went there like two years ago, sad to hear about this ☹

Everyone saying "ew, gross" how old are you? just wondering

I grew up in the 70's and everything sorta had a layer of dinge to it, it was just a filthy decade, that being said, I think the wall looks cool.

They're not 'getting rid of it', they're just cleaning it due to sugar rotting the bricks or something. It'll look about the same in two weeks.

Nasty is nasty no matter how old or young you are. And make no mistake that fucking wall is nasty.

This is hilarious, and gross...

In Cincinnati Ohio, we have this waterpark called "The Beach". There is one ride, near the back of the park...that has a trail through some wooded areas. There is a cluster of smaller trees that looks like that wall...everyone puts their gun there. I haven't been to the park in ages, but when I was a kid, I saw it, then when I worked there 10+ years later, I saw it again, just more of it. People love putting gum with other gum...it's like...one giant family it seems.

but no one is rubbing you up on it, and apparently others are fine because they added to the collective...it's just a table at a sub shop flip on it's edge.

Dried gum isn't gonna cause the next plague it's fine.

I have never heard or read of anyone getting sick from the gum wall. Or that it was dangerous in any way.

So really, Chipotle deserves the nasty and gross comments more than this.

I think you're just a bit to accustomed to gross shit.

Nah it was necessary not only for safety reasons, but also aesthetic. That bridge was my favorite place in Paris a few years ago, and that silly trend had turned it into a hardware store.

I'm afraid we'll never get to the original again.

All the times I've been to Seattle and I've never visited.

You keep telling yourself you'll visit all the monuments...
