This is a message from Philipp, PR and Marketing guy from Nordic Games.

Introducing the Nordic Franchise Loyalty Program (if you’re into acronyms: NFLP) for Darksiders

With the release of the Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition on November 5th 2015, I am very excited to give you all the dirty little details on behalf of Nordic Games, and the introduction of our NFLP for the Darksiders franchise.

The following post explains the 3 different tiers of said NFLP for Darksiders on Steam. In other words: these are applicable for anybody who bought a Steam version, i.e. on Steam itself, as a boxed PC Steam key version or on any other digital platform selling Steam keys.

• Tier 1: everybody owning the Darksiders franchise pack ( http://store.steampowered.com/sub/18777/ - this version will be offline with release of the Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition) either from Steam itself, or activated through a Steam key (boxed and/or digital), up until the release of Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition on November 5th 2015 will get the Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition for free (i.e. freebie, gratuit, gratuito, kostenlos, gratuito).
• Tier 2: everybody owning the original Darksiders II (from Steam itself or activated through a Steam key, boxed and/or digital) up until the release of Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition on November 5th 2015 will get an 80% discount during the first release week
• Tier 3: For all non-owners there will be a release discount of 20% in place for one week after release

“But how does this black magic work?!?!” you may wonder…
If you are a Tier 1, you will find the Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition automatically as a game in your Steam library once it releases on November 5th 2015.
If you are a Tier 2, you will have an 80% discount usable on your purchase of Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition during the first release week.
If you are a Tier 3, you will have a 20% discount usable on your purchase of Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition during the first release week.

Thank you for playing Darksiders, and I hope you thoroughly enjoy the Deathinitive Edition of Darksiders II on PC.

Best regards,

Philipp (PR Nordic Games)

Pretty neat, though it suck for people who bought everything but not through the Franchise Pack.

Are saves compatible between the original and the definitive edition?

Does this version actually have infinite NewGame+ instead of only allowing you to replay with carryover stats and items once?

You know that Free Version really does screw over fans who were buying the Season Pass and such day 1.

In reality the "lesser" fans are the one's getting the better deal here.

That would be me. :(

I'll most likely still pick it up with the heavy discount depending on how much it costs overall. I have no problems supporting this IP in hopes of additional entries down the road.

Well now I have an excuse to finish the game. I got the mega-pack during a Steam sale but I've only played it for a few hours.

Wait, so i get this for free? (since i have all the shit listed in that DS pack in my library already)

EDIT: Oh only if you bought it from the pack itself? Honestly, i don't even remember how i got all that shit.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

Did you buy the "Franchise Pack" specifically? People (like me) who bought everything separately, as well as those that bought the "Franchise Pack" on Amazon and got separate keys only get an 80% discount for 1 week.

Any word on what the base price of the game is? Console version went for 30 EUR, so that would make it only 6 with the 80% discount. Not bad :U

Can you adjust the camera speed in this one? The slow camera killed all my desire of playing the original DSII.

Weird.

I think I bought the Franchise pack for something like $10 during a Steam sale, and I get it free rather than people that may have bought both at full price. Strange tiering here.

Yeah, honestly i don't remember.

Oh well, i'll probably still bite at 80% off, since i really enjoyed Darksiders 2.
Then again the performance for the PS4 version of this Deathinitive editions were allegedly very very poor.

Darksiders 2 had a poor PC port, so i was hoping this version would mostly fix that.

If you haven't bought the games SPECIFICALLY through the Franchise Pack, you're not Tier 1. You're Tier 2.
I just tried to buy the franchise pack and it says I own everything within it so I'm just gunna say I'm tier 1. I know I bought the games during a sale so I'm guessing it was a franchise pack deal.

Same goes for those who bought Franchise pack from Amazon, because they gave separate codes instead of one key.

Agreed

If the franchise pack give you the option to buy then you probably activated all the keys separate, which puts you at tier 2. I have everything minus the soundtrack so it sucks i dont get it free :\ i dont know if im willing to pay the 6$ on launch

This. Guess I'll find out tomorrow.

Again I ask, why is the first game not included in this? Do they hate that game or something? It was on PC as well, I seriously doubt remastering it would be all that hard.

Goddamn it, I apparently own everything in the franchise pack except the soundtrack.

Edit: Oh, it doesn't matter if you own everything or not, you had to have bought the franchise pack bundle explicitly.

I can only buy it as a gift since it says I own everything. I don't ever remember buying Darksiders THEN Darksiders DLC. if I got the games it was in a pack. The question is if it was the franchise pack or not.

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
RE: "How do I know if I previously bought the Franchise Pack?":

It will count as a +1. Enable Steam's console (append -dev or -console to the target line of a shortcut) and type in licenses_for_app 50650 -- if the reported "license packageID" is either 18777 or 19025, then you'll be getting the DE for free.

E.g.:

Edit: Go here and search for "Franchise Pack".

Probably because there are no high res versions of the textures/etc available for the original and it would cost too much to remake all of those.

Steam user console says... 18777 so I guess I get it for free \o/

like the vast majority of people here I've bought so many games I don't remember it was a franchise pack, a bundle, separate sales or whatever, where is the "purchase history" option using regular Steam anyway ?

edit: nvm, it's here... https://store.steampowered.com/account/history/

What's even different in this version over the original?

New assets apparently, some new graphical flare as well probably.

Deathinitive Edition Features:
Darksiders 2 with All DLCs* included and integrated into the game, offering a total playtime of more than 30 hours *(Maker Armor Set, The Abyssal Forge, The Demon Lord Belial, Death Rides, Angel of Death, Deadly Despair, Shadow of Death, Mortis Pack, Rusanov's Axe, Van Der Schmash Hammer, Fletcher's Crow Hammer, Mace Maximus, Argul's Tomb).
Improved Graphic Render Engine for higher visual quality especially in terms of lighting and shadows.
Improved and reworked level, character and environment graphics.
Running in native 1080p resolution.
Reworked and tuned game balancing and loot distribution.

Should have been free for DS2 + season pass owners rather than something requiring the purchase of a bunch of useless 99 cent DLCs.

But not too shabby overall, better than I expected.

Thank you. I don't know if I'll bother with it. I had a lot of fun through the first half or so, but it goes downhill pretty quick.

The first one doesn't even open on any pc I own, just black screens, always wanted to play it.

I had a similar issue, look at the steam forums for help. For me it was either delete the start up movies or disabling the overlay to get it to work.

I was reading through the dev comments, they said they could only do it for one sku so they chose the franchise pack. They originally wanted to do it for all owners of DS2 but were told they could not.

I own both Darksiders games on Steam yet I'm not "tier 1". go fuck yourself Nordic games. charging people for the same fucking game.

1080p? What is this 2008?

Darksiders 1 was actually one of the first games I downsampled.

Wasn't Darksiders 1 also a total pain in the ass to downsample? I remember it needing hexediting or something.

Hey, they're not charging for the same game. They're charging for the new work they put into it, and you're not obligated to buy it. Their discount of 80% actually seems totally reasonable for however much work it took them to do the port.

I'm a tiny bit confused. What if -- after Deathinitive Edition releases -- I buy a Darksiders Franchise Pack key on a non-Steam site (for example GMG, GG or Humble), does Darksiders II automatically become DSII: Deathinitive? Or do I need to buy that version separate?

I'm guessing that the DE is just going to pop up on the store tomorrow? I'm currently not seeing it even shown as coming soon on PC after a search.

Nah, they said they chose to do it only for that.

They could've done it so those who own DS2 + Season Pass get free,
but not require every single (probably because it would be too much work to add checks).

imo. Biggest problem is how they made tiers, not actual discount.

More than likely yea it would have been too much work with the different sku's and such. He did post later in the comments they had to bind tier 1 to a single SKU though. Here is the main quote from the dev if anybody is interested in it:

Hi guys,
Our original plan was to have the free copy unlocked for everyone owning Darksiders II and ALL DLCs but unfortunately this was technically not possible so we were told and therefore we chose the Steam version being the one unit unlocking the free copy which is as close as possible to the content we wanted our loyal fans to own - the Darksiders Franchise pack. Hope you anyways appreciate the great loyalty program, we will offer you together with our friends from Valve, no matter if you are unlocking the free copy or the high end 80 % discount.
Thank you & Cheers

Nah it's more then likely a case of not wanting to do a lot of work on this. Both Deponia Trilogy and Pixel Junk offered tiers based off multiple different skus

If you own both already and this is "the same fucking game", why do you need it?
