Street Fighter V ESRB: Female characters' breasts jiggle during character selection

I agree with Trickster, because I feel that you can get to the end of it without much investment, and a lot of times it just seems like it's just an option to be a "bang buddy". Usually it's just a few dialog segments where you talk to your party in between missions or at camp. In Xenogears for example, you see a relationship build up from the ground up, and you see Fei and Elly go through a lot of things together. In a Bioware game, it feels like their is no "growth through trial" part of the relationship. If I wanted to get a romance, I can go ask Morrigan how her day was, then ask about her history like 3 times throughout the game, then the bang option comes up. Sure, mechanically both things are the same, as in your are just going through dialog, but they execute much differently.

Also DA2 was really horrible with this. It's like no one had a preference besides if it has 2 legs and breaths, they want to bang it. I would like characters with nuance to them and have likes or hate. It also seemed really weird that Anders wanted to get it on, and he dislikes you if you turn him down, since I thought he was a decent guy in Awakening
and not a psycho terrorist blowing shit up.
It just felt like you were playing with meters at that point.

I would guess they object to the "gift NPC a bunch of crap and suddenly they want to fuck you and marry you" trope? And of course it ends there, they have sex and that's it, like it's the conclusion of the story.

Or am I confusing it with Skyrim? xD

I would have used the example from Wolfenstein: TNO myself instead of Bioware, anyway.

Ah, I see, thanks for the explanations :v

FYI, that "Why?" was very legitimate, I don't know anything about Mass Effect lol

EDIT: Also what? Wolfenstein has sex scenes? That series sure has changed since I was younger!

Hahaha.

Well honestly, as a female player, seeing the boob jiggle in video games look just as stupid and ridiculous and eye-rolling as the animations above. It boggles my mind that people think they're actually hot, honestly. Funny? Ok sure. Sexy? lol wot

It seems all too appropriate that the first things that comes to mind in terms of male jiggle are Rufus and Super Macho Man, both of which are played for comedy.

I agree. Sex in bioware games usually feel like it's a reward for going through hoops. Like, insert talking points here, get sex sort of deal.

lol, yeah, in The New Order, [mild spoilers]
BJ hooks up with a female character. But he actually develops a real relationship with her, and it feels pretty natural and genuine, not just "oh hey I'm the guy, you're the chick, let's fuck". It helps that the female character is her own character too, and doesn't exist only to serve as eye candy or as a "reward" for the male protagonist.

TNO was shocking in how... decent the writing was. xD Like, it's not super genius or anything. But I was expecting either something really lame and stupid, or something ridiculous to the point of self-parody, so I was really surprised.

I understand mentioning the skimpy clothing itself, but why is the jiggle relevant to the ESRB?

It draws more attention to the often largely exposed or otherwise perfectly displayed breasts, maybe. I don't know. It's like the difference between a woman standing still in a bikini vs. a woman jumping up and down with the express purpose of making her breasts bounce for your amusement. One is more prurient than the other.

I see, I see! That's definitely pretty surprising, haha. I might check it out, though the impact of expecting a buffoon game and getting something decent may be lost now. :p

It's been a while since i played Mass Effect 1, but don't they have an entire race of basically "sexy alien women", those blue ladies with the octopus on their heads.
I mean if you're trying to have a mature sci fi story, you may want to avoid that one trope.

But then again, Mass Effect wasn't really all that mature to begin with, it's about a super space soldier fighting super bad space aliens and banging all sorts of folks around the galaxy, Kirk style.
Romance in Bioware games is akin to romance in cheap romance novels, really.

Ehm, sure, i don't see a parent being ok with R Mika's costume, but then drawing the line at the jiggle.
Just odd, not that i really give a shit one way or the other.

That was the idea behind the original mass effect. A space opera. It got a bit lost with the sequels.

No that's definitely the Bioware games you're thinking about. It's the same approach used in all their games with "romance". Keep talking with the npc you want to have sex with between each story mission in order to unlock the sex scene at the end, which coincidentally almost happen to be shortly before the big dangerous mission near the end of the game.

And then there's the issue of how absolutely dumb the sex scenes look and are animated. It looks insanely dumb and awkward.

This reminds me of Harvest Moon 64, where I got married super early by showing Karen (the bar maid) my dog over and over, which due to a glitch caused her heart rate to max out after 10 minutes.

What's interesting is how invested people (of all genders) still get in those Bioware relationships, despite their structured nature.

Gotcha. Yeah I never liked Bioware games, but I care even less for the romance aspects in RPGs because it's always stupid shit like that.

Well to be fair, Harvest Moon is a more nuanced relationship game mechnically than the Bioware games and there is at least something to do after you reach the marriage and copulation part (I had to upgrade my house to have kids! Kids are expensive). I remember I had to give my wife some presents even after being married, and sometimes you have to stay with her when she was sick, or you can be a douchebag and go to work anyways (those watermelons aren't going to water themselves).

At least Kirk was usually pretty good about not trying to sleep with his direct subordinates.

One time I got a divorce in HM by giving my wife weeds

Thanks for your hindsight. Some people suggested crotches juggling physics for male character in thong, do you also think it will be ridiculous ? It would be nice to have women point of view on the question.

I can understand the complaints about the costumes, or even the jiggle, but complaining about large breasted women as being unrealistic in games seems bizarre and counter productive. The average bra size in the states is a 34DD. That's a pre-reduction Simona Halep. Why is slim and androgynous being hoisted up as the ideal for women in games? That's not any more realistic than what we have now.

Is the character select scene taking place in space?

And people were into bigger waists to in Ancient Greece. You really don't remember Baby Got Back, early buns of steel were really flat or Moesha (the character) trying to burn her bum fat off? Granted not watching Moesha is a good thing.

I don't even know what you're trying to argue here except maybe that there was an unfortunate amount of pancake butt on TV in the 90s.

I think you also need to consider that many of these characters aren't American, and are sort of more athletic people given that they are fighters so they may have less body fat. But yeah, people are sort of making a little bit of a stink when street fighter typically does a good job with women characters.

I assume for most people it's a guilty pleasure of sort.
Dumb things can be fun, often times.
Like comfort food or what have you.

Because it's probably noticable enough to be relevant?

Again, i don't see a big difference between jiggle and no jiggle, especially not in the context in which the ESBR operates.

But to each their own.

Speaking of Samus, I was always pretty disappointed by how her armour got slimmer across entries.

Why? Unless you believe specially tailored armoe should be completely genderless...as long as it isn't ridiculous then what's the problem?

Ehh, ahtletic women USUALLY don't have big butts or boobs, but exceptional people do (the Williams sisters) and I'd consider any of the main characters, male or female, of most fight games (aside from jokes like Dan) to be exceptional at what they do...

The number of topless/sleeveless/tight trousers/overly muscled male characters is ridiculous. When was the last time you saw a fat guy or a guy with glasses who wasn't a figure of fun?

This whole thing seems to be more fodder for the professionally offended to me. Firstly regarding the actual topic, it's obviously a glitch and those posting heavily cropped GIFs to prove a point know it.

More generally, the answer to your needs not being met isn't to deny others theirs. You want a game with a bunch of dowdy characters then make it and see how it sells. You want to make a photo realistic Greco-Roman wresting game with butt naked guys and overly jiggly ball physics, go for it. You don't like these games? Don't buy them.

I, like most hereto guys, like women's bodies. To suggest that this is "perverted" is, ironically enough, to pervert the meaning of that word. It implies something abnormal when it couldn't be more normal. To suggest it means I think of women any less is both insulting and laughable. I have a wife and two daughters who would kick my ass if stepped out line there. All strong, beautiful females with solid self esteem. I know when my wife watches Thor, or Batman, or Big in SATC, or the guy from 50 Shades, or whatever gets her splooshing these days that sexual fantasy is normal and healthy.

Tl;Dr - Yes, there are imbalances in the media around gender equality. No, twisting glitches into conspiracies and attacking anything you view as "overly sexual" isn't the way to tackle them.

Pretty boys, guys who are muscular but not overtly so, so more like a Chris Hemsworth Thor look. In terms of "skimpy" outfits, probably more like nice clothes but made skimpier (missing shirts, showing off arms, tight/form fitting). Definitely not simply gender bending the character which putting a guy in a revealing bikini is essentially doing.

This guy isn't "overly muscular"? Where the hell do you live, muscle beach?

Because it's all too common that women who wear power armour are more "form fitting".

I meant compared to your average fighting game character. Even a lame like Dan has the physique of Hemsworth

Aside from the curvier look to it I'd hardly consider her latest suit "form fitting". Maybe the Fusion suit, but the only thing the kne you posted says is " There's a woman in this". I don't get why all armor has to be androgynous.

R Mika's CA has been censored: https://youtu.be/U0uvMjJBHc0?t=1m29s

No more butt slap.

They also removed the split. Nadeshiko and Mika don't hold the opponent's legs in a split at the end there.

Before:

After:

Uh, odd change. Anyway, the split was kind of random, I think I like it better now.

It's really freaking annoying that people like you think not liking fanservice = being offended. No one can possibly dislike fanservice, it just has to be because we're offended, or because we hate sex, or because we think there's something wrong with breasts.
