Miscellaneous:
Analysis on a Budget PC (Digital Foundry)
"We've been playing the game on our budget gaming PC, pairing a Core i3 4130 with a GTX 750 Ti and 8GB of DDR3. We used the game's high preset as a base, then dropped shadow quality and distance down to medium, with lighting pared back to high - this gives us a visual experience on par or better with console. We have enough horsepower left over to put its object fade setting on par with actor fade (in excess of the high setting) and the end result is improved performance and marginally superior visuals, still at 1080p. As an aside, we can say that even ultra level textures still fit comfortably within a 2GB framebuffer at 1080p. VRAM utilisation isn't a problem for Fallout 4."
A GPU Focus (Tom's Hardware)
"In short, the biggest factor comes down to the GPU. Obviously, other components do contribute to the final score, but if you want to start the game on Ultra settings (as well as download what is sure to be a wave of graphical mods in the future), the focus should be on selecting the best graphics card for the money."

T-1 hour. I'm surprised there's no Nvidia Game Ready drivers since this game has Gameworks features, right?

I made a video over the weekend with Fallout 4 running at 1080P/60. I'll post it up when the embargo lifts in about an hour.

Expecting really inconsistent performance with many areas where the framerates takes a nosedive for no apparent reason even on burly hardware.

My performance expectations are really low.

This is Bethesda after all.

Wow those are pretty lofty recommended specs. Hopefully not completely accurate.

I have a 4670k @4.6ghz and a GTX 970 OC at 1500 mhz core and +300 mem.

Anyone else have a setup like mine that is currently running the game? What's your performance like?

They can only squeeze their decade old engine so much. They've strapped a lot of bells and whistles on to it this time around, let's how how she holds out.

The good thing about using the same engine is that it's easier for the modding-guys to get to work. I assume.

edit:

Also, I'm really curious on how FO4 will run on my old i5-2500k / GTX 580 in 1440p... I'm guessing it's not Ultra @ 60 fps ;D

I posted the thread a bit early it seems. We should get impressions rolling once the timer is up.

Aye. Modders will getting to work in no time at all.I fully expect to be playing dragonborn with smurf mounts and portal guns in a month's time.

Oblivion destroyed my Q6600 8800GTX (not sure if poor or demanding), but that was the last time they ever pushed the envelope.

Yea, I was gonna say, Oblivion crushed PC hardware at launch.

Even for years after, since the game wasn't optimized for multiple cores, running graphics heavy mods could turn a beast of a PC into a slow crawl.

And we have similar issues with Skyrim, but RAM related. No matter how powerful your hardware is, you can't use over 4GB RAM without the game crashing, so you can't go crazy with 4k textures. Hopefully with Fallout being DX11 and 64bit we're finally free to go completely nuts =D

I could of sworn quite a few Gaffers say they've been playing it since last week on PC. Maybe I'm crazy and it's just early console copies. I know quite a few Europeans recieved copies quite early.

I guess they would be reviewers in that case, as Steam has locked the game even for those who got the disc early.

Really hope there is 21:9 support this time around. I suppose I can wait for a fix if i must but official support is always nice

Beyond the obvious glitch fest, has a Bethesda game ever performed poorly on PC?

Skyrim's PC launch was a disaster. No 64 bit support, memory issues, some weird issues with instruction sets being missing, you couldn't disable mouse acceleration, etc.

Oblivion and Morrowind were both technical disaster-pieces for a long time too.

Bethesda games are notorious for a reason.

They probably let a few outlets review the PC copy, like PC Gamer, rockpapershotgun etc.

Right. A reviewer could potentially tell me how their performance was if they had a similar system to mine without breaking NDA right? I mean it was worth a shot before I turn in for the night.

I'm honestly curious if there's anything I need other than a new video card (currently have a 1GB 7850) or is my 3570k holding me back as well.

Like the others have said, you CPU should last you a while yet but a 1GB GPU isn't going to cut it anymore.

Will this run on 4GB memory or is it locked to 8GB minimum? I'm slightly above minimal specs apart from the memory.

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
You can remove the language support list; it doesn't apply to the PC version.
