actually, I was planning to lol

ugh get it together, Canada. I can't support both versions now :(

oh well :/ I know how that feels - I cancelled both.
definitely getting the 3DS Launch Edition from Amazon.com
still hesitating on pre-ordering the WiiU version - I want the Wii game for sure but bleh

Got charged for my NISA LE for the Wii U version. I'll pick up the 3DS version down the line.

Looking forward to playing the Wii version!

the wii u version is better than the 3ds version except for the fact that the 3ds version is portable.

Thank you for bumping this thread - this had completely fallen off my radar and I was able to still order the Wii U LE.

... Not that I need anymore games to play...

Does anyone know how the launch edition is packed? Any unboxing videos so far?

they haven't started shipping yet so nothing so far. although recent history (well, samurai warriors) has me to believe it's a tuck flap box with the art book and soundtrack inside with the game and the bonus item floating outside.

Was just checking up on my EU order at coolshop.de (coolshop.co.uk has the same description)

The product description gave me pause.

Product description
Rodea the Sky Soldier
There is a Wii version of the game which is only available with all launch copies of the Wii U version (each game will come in its own case)!

They're very explicit about the both games being in their own case. Everything we've seen so far suggested a two discs in one case scenario. I hope the shop listing turns out to be true, that would be rad! (Japan had both in their own case, if you recall).

edit: checked amazonUK ...

The Wii version of the game which is only available with all launch copies of the Wii U version ( Wii version of the game will be available as a physical disc and bundled with the Wii U box

sounds like the 2 disc 1 case thing lol ...needless confusion!

Wow, I got the LE in already.
Think this is a new record for NISA.
The last few games from them took several days after the official release.

I feel sorry for my poor wallet because I've bought way too many games recently, but it looks like the LE is still available on their site... My brain is telling me to just order the standard version on Amazon though. I'm seriously conflicted
and probably too tired to make that decision now

I guess this is the unofficial OT now? doubt there is enough interest in this game anyway, but I got the LE in a day early as well. First order from NISA seems to have gone well.

I went back and forth but ultimately canceled my pre-order for the LE. It's enough for me to get a first print copy for that Wii version. Lots of junk in that LE package that I don't need, and sad to say, I'm worried about the quality of the game. Still buying it to support Yuji Naka.

Boo-urns if there's no separate case for the Wii version.

If you're interested in the Wii version there's no need to worry about its quality, it's fantastic.

Just got my LE in today early as well, no pics and I haven't opened it yet, but props, the outside casing is good, like REALLY good. The key comes outside of the box and is packaged nicely, and the box itself looks really good.

If no one else has, I'll make an OT either later tonight, or tomorrow. Obscure games I like are my specialty~

If you can save your time and money; don't get this game. This is probably what shovelware is like in Japan. I wish I could get my money but I already opened and played the game, oh well.

Wow is the WiiU version really that bad? I played a small bit of the Wii version and it is a quite charming game and I will have to give it the time of day when I have a chance to.

i beat the wii u version last night and thought it was fine. the main problem with the game is that it's made for pointer controls, which are faster, and it makes the game seem like it should play that way, but it doesn't. you can zip around pretty good but you have to exercise some patience in finding your next target. i see a lot of people mashing buttons and trying to fly using the left stick. the main three buttons are the y button, a button, and b button. y button makes you shoot up, but if you're moving the left stick at the same time, you'll dodge. this is key in causing a lot of frustration since some people will use the b button to move (which makes you shoot forward without a target), and often ends people below the landmass. then they use the y button and start dodging, and run out of flight power and fall.

it's not a perfect system, but i think the controls aren't really that hard to grasp.

Sounds like I made the right choice playing the Wii version first. I find the controls to be quite fun. Switching targets is quick, your flight arc changes depending on the direction you swing the remote, attacking's easy. The camera is a bit wonky, makes me wonder why they didn't just go for the nunchuck set-up, would've been a very easy way to address the camera controls (movement on the analog, have a reset camera option relegated to the C/Z button).

Camera complaints aside, there's a lot of freedom gameplay wise (so far); multiple routes, Danky Kang County style special rooms, collectibles, power-ups, etc. Gonna play through some more after work tomorrow.

To those who played the Wii version: is there an option to just fly in a straight line instead of an arc when you flick the remote? I ask because I kept missing some of the gold pieces whenever they're lined up.

I don't quite have the spare money for this game right now; how likely do you think it is that the first print will sell out? I'm not buying this if I'm not getting the Wii version.

I wonder if they could somehow get the Wii version on the eShop at some point. I'd hate to see people miss out on the game this was meant to be.

"Even Yuji Naka Doesn’t Like What Rodea the Sky Soldier Has Become

If you read our review of Rodea the Sky Soldier, you’ll know that Yuji Naka’s latest creation is far from stellar. That’s a shame, because many fans, ourselves included, have looked forward to the game’s release since its initial announcement back in 2010. Now, with it set to release tomorrow on 3DS, Wii U and Wii, Naka himself has a message for fans: “Please play the Wii version”.

Despite Rodea the Sky Soldier being reworked and upscaled for release on both 3DS and Wii U, Naka appears to believe that only the original Wii version is worth playing. This makes some sense, considering the game was originally designed and developed for Nintendo’s motion-based console and even completed before it made the move to the Japanese company’s latest platforms. Even so, it’s disheartening to hear a game’s creator dismissing his own work on the eve of its release, especially when he and his team took the extra time to develop the Wii U and 3DS versions. It certainly doesn’t bode well for the future of the series."

I'm not so sure about the spin that Naka is dismissing his "own" work. Prope finished the Wii game years ago, but Kadokawa developed the 3DS version, and in a 2012 interview Naka made it very clear that he lacked any involvement in or even knowledge of the project (http://www.polygon.com/gaming/2012/...wii-game-rodea-the-sky-soldier-still-in-limbo): "I want to ask the same question! We have finished developing the Wii version and we have already submitted it. That was around a year ago. But it seems like they are still considering the [details of] the 3DS version. It might be close to being finished, but we haven't spoken to Kadokawa in a while, so I'm not sure. Kadokawa never said they're not going to sell it, so I would guess they'll release it sometime in 2013 or so."

Either Kadokawa or the media or both want to focus on the fact that Rodea is Naka's "brainchild". Does anyone know if Naka even had a direct hand in the Wii U version's development?

wii is the virtual console i think, not the eshop. the virtual console requires more explicit approval than a submission form, i believe, but it could go either way since the wii u runs wii games.

The Wii U version was by Kadokawa themselves and a port of the 3DS version IIRC, horrific mistake, Prope should've been asked to have ported their original Wii version to Wii U with Wiimote controls intact. We can only hope they'll attempt this on NX I guess. :(

Just press B without swinging the remote and you'll go in a straight line. You can also hold A to zoom directly to your target after starting your flight, assuming you aren't powered down.

Naka had little to no involvement in the 3DS/Wii U versions and he has been explicit about this every time it's come up, and yes, I suspect the only reason Kadokawa/NISA are releasing the Wii game at all is because Yuji Naka is the only reason anyone cares about any version of this game.

I'd have thought they'll probably be done with the IP after this.

I was actually surprised to see my LE order to come in fairly early yesterday (first time ordering from the NISA store). I thought it was supposed to come on Tuesday like typical game releases. I plan on playing it after I finish Wooly World.

That's what upset Yuji Naka back in 2012 -- he lamented Nintendo's decision not to include a Wii remote in every Wii U box, which suggests that Kadokawa Games saw it as too risky to keep the pointer controls along with other things.
