Maybe you're right. It's easily mistakable as a school girl outfit, though.
I mean, yeah, if you don't actually look at it for more than half a second.

It's obviously a more adult outfit, which addresses the key complaint about perpetual schoolgirls without totally changing her overall look.

Sure, she still has a skirt on, but given the other female outfits in the game, that seems like a win.

It's very good design, on the one hand it's more mature but on the other there is still some familiarity with her original design as well. The best of both worlds basically.

Fair enough.

Yeah I was hoping she would come back in 5 and that they'd update her age instead of giving her some ridiculous perpetual school girl thing like Sakura and hadssome ideas on what they could do.

They outdud every idea I had, I think what they ended up doing was great and I'm very happy with it.

To each their own.

To me Kyo went from an interesting design to some asshole kid thinking he looks cool in a leather jacket.

I don't see how Kyo's original design was that interesting though; it was just the typical badboy open shirt variant of the gakuran (school uniform) you see in a lot of anime, it was basically Yusuke from Yu Yu Hakusho with the shirt unbuttoned.

The white cross jacket is a lot more iconic to Kyo IMO; you don't see anyone else in a jacket like that in real life or in anime and games. You look at that jacket and you'd go "why is that guy dressed like Kyo". Now Iori's original outfit, that's very interesting design.

Kyo was wearing black. His back had a the image of an eclipse. He's fire over the blackness. It was very elegant, while still fresh and young.

A jacket says nothing and serves no purpose. I better dont talk about Iori, because it makes me cry.

Long time, no see. I never got to give my thoughts on the Wave 1 leak or the Dhalsim reveal, so here they are before I go back into lurking mode until January (due to finals & me just needing some time off from GAF).

  • After Zangief's reveal, I was pretty sure that we were gonna get Dhalsim as well. And while I was a bit underwhelmed with Zangief (though I will admit that some of the changes he got were nice), I'm a bit more hyped for Dhalsim since he got changed across the board. Sure, I'll miss his down-back normals, but the other changes he got made me more interest in trying him out come February.
  • You all know my love of the Street Fighter III games, so the Wave 1 leak confirming Alex & Urien was music to my ears. Granted, I didn't play Alex nearly as much as I would have liked to back during the SFIII days, but I'll be interested in how he'll translate into SFV.
  • Like Alex, I'm insanely hyped for Urien. But his transition to SFV will be even more interesting, especially with Aegis Reflector being a huge part of his moveset in the iterations of SFIII that he was in. But if they must give him a robe during combat, he better rip that shit off with his V-Trigger (complete with two stocks of Aegis Reflectors).
  • I honestly did not expect Ibuki to get in this early in Street Fighter V's life. That being said, I did use her a good bit in Third Strike & I hope she takes more after her SFIII incarnations rather than her vortex-based SFIV variant.
  • Balrog is probably gonna get redesigned like crazy....I hope. But he better be his rushdown self from Super Turbo rather than his turtle variant from the SFIV games.
  • Guile is probably gonna be solid throughout, & his inclusion makes sense given Charlie & the Illuminati. I guess they could give him a redesign, but I honestly don't mind either way. The game needed more zoners, anyway.
What I'm especially curious about is how the Capcom Cup will be incorporated into the game. Obviously we know that there are files for each of the tournaments in the game. But I'm still wondering if they'll be announced during said tournaments, if they'll release replays to be viewed in-game, or both. Hell, it could be something entirely different. Either way, I'm hyped. I already got my TE2 (from a trusted GAFer who only used it once) coming in the mail sometime this week. And with that, back to studying.

Agreed, it's also interesting how they tried to combine both of Kyo's white and black jackets into one for XIV.

And yeah, Iori's original design is so damn unique and iconic.

Seriously thinking about taking a trip to New York for a weekend after SFV comes out. Just to get my ass kicked around at a big local or even a tournament. It's pretty much an excuse to travel, but worthwhile all the same.

Won't NLBC be already closed by time SFV launches? I think they're set to close shop in early Feb.

So just to speculate...
  • Who do you guys think will come out first?
  • Regardless of who the character is, do you expect a tease of the first DLC character at the Capcom Cup?
  • Do you think we'll get a DLC character in February?

I think Urien will be first, since he's the hypest one and possibly the boss. It could also be Alex, since his character model is already in the game. I hope they tease the first DLC person at PlayStation Experience; I'm sure they know that at least some people were disappointed with seeing Gief and Dhalsim again, when Alex and Urien were possibilities. I hope we get one DLC character at release.

Ono, I hope that you haven't give up with tweet teases. I hope to see few teasers before the reveal this weekend. Hopefully!

I think we might get DLC character in Feb. Did they said that we would get a character per two months?

Urien imo should be first if he's the (secret?) boss. None of the characters so far play like him and I think most people want him the most. Just imagine hearing "CRUUSSSH" at the end of Fan's trailer if it's shown, no doubt it would bring hype in the crowd. Dunno about February since it's launch time but it could happen but I think maybe a month after in March.

I forgot to add two last questions...
  • Do you think we'll get Fan's reveal during PlayStation Experience or the Capcom Cup?
  • If we get a DLC tease this week, will it be alongside Fan at whatever event he's revealed at or at the event he isn't revealed at (I.E. Fan & a DLC character tease at the same event or separate)?

Yup, one character (roughly) every two months.

DLC in the order of left to right from the teaser image. Boxer, Guile, Urien, Ibuki, Juri, Alex.
They need to get Boxer and Guile out for Evo, and there's no need for another grappler before the others, so Alex is fine last.
Probably first week in March for the first just to avoid complaints.

Lol you think that low poly model is going to be his playable model?

If they were anti-Alex, they wouldn't be putting him in the game.

That's such a crude model, there's no way that's going to be it. Makes sense as a fun nod until he's potentially released at the end of the year.

There is nothing wrong or dated with Chun Li or Ryu's outfits and if there was ever a reason to change Ryu's default outfit it shouldn't be to even out a sexualized character quota. They have two of the most recognizable designs in the game industry and are known all around the world and aside from small iterations don't need to be changed. They're timeless.

Why not? It'll just continue the ol' "Fuck Alex" thing they've got going.

Right....

And anyway, thanks to the data mining we know his model has a similar poly count to Ryu's.

If I may ask, why is it so important to get Balrog & Guile out before EVO?

Guile and Balrog are SF2 classics and tournament mainstays in both the characters themselves and play style archetypes, not to mention synonymous with some of the top players. It's not critical they're out before, as players could always find alternatives, but for the biggest tourney aside from Capcom Cup, I feel like they would want to get them in to appease long time fans of their styles losing their mains.

I think the 8 SF2 characters on the initial roster are enough to hold over people. It isn't like they're not coming. I'm sure a lot of people mained Ibuki and Juri in SF4, certainly more than someone like Balrog and they're just as eager. Urien and Alex should have priority.

Yup don't need anymore SF2 characters right after launch, bring on the SF3 characters.. And if tournament players got their way we'd be getting Elena and Evil Ryu kappa.. Hell no one mains Balrog besides PR Balrog (RIP Gootecks), and 2 notable guys play Guile....

Well, tourneys are only part of the reason. Story may play a part too. We'll see.

Guile and Boxer's styles date back much longer. I think that gives them the edge (similar to why Dhalsim and Zangief were prioritized despite a lot of people not wanting them). I don't even want Boxer, actually, but I think he'll be first.

It's all just speculation. I don't think anyone's theories are any more of less valid since we have no idea what criteria Capcom is weighting more heavily. Personally, I think the need for more "pure" charge character options sooner outweighs the need to simply get in an SF3 character ASAP even if their styles are different as well.

Regardless of where Urien and Alex fall, I think Urien should be before him since he's more unique compared to the 16.
