Sony leaks Dark Cloud PS2 for PS4

So is Dark Cloud any good? I've literally never heard of it until now.

It's pretty clunky by today's standards. The game is broken up into six or so areas each with a dungeon to explore. Narrative is pretty simple, broken up mostly as vignettes for each character you recruit in each location. Bit of a dungeon crawler and a bit grindy. Tiny part roguelike. You control one character at a time (can switch at will), each with their own basic combat combo (and I mean basic). A cool city building system. Good music.

edit: Dungeons are randomly generated by floors, like a roguelike.

Don't really understand what people were expecting. Sure PS4 has a dvd/PS2 laser but probably doesn't have the programming to read them in the same way it does PS4 discs, and run them as games. Because the games are running at more stable framerates and higher resolutions, the 'PS2 classics' that were specifically retooled to be emulated on the PS3 cell in a certain way, wouldn't be compatible with PS4, the same way PS3 games can't be natively run on a PS4.

It's a shitty situation to be sure, but we all know how this stuff works by now.
Different system architecture calls for different software structure.

It's just a shame Sony seems to want to charge people if they want previously bought games on the new system and not have a transfer service, which admittedly will have its similar share of problems.

lollllllllll

no disc support

they're not gonna let us use ps1 discs when support is added either are they

AND they won't let you use the digital copies you already bought

lmfao what a trainwreck
Quality post almost like you enjoy the fact people are angry over this.
On topic: never bought a ps2 classic so can't wait

That sounds up my alley.

Wow, even after Microsoft's swipe about PS Now, "We won't make you pay for games you already own," Sony still doesn't get it right. Not supporting PS2 Classics? Come on... :/

Couldn't they do it like Xbox does where you put the PS2 disc in and it lets you download the digital version?

This is bull...the 360 games on the Xbox one arent running off the disk either....its just easy to see for the 123rd time which companies are consumer friendly and which ones playact at it

Why are you reading my tag instead of the title of my post?
I still have about 25-30 ps2 games. I had a launch ps3 so that kept them in use for a long time.
I kind of bought ~$40 of PS2 games a couple of years ago hoping for BC. Oh well. Good memories. Maybe when I get my next laptop it'll be able to emulate it well.

I like it.

It does not matter how it's gonna be realized, as long as it's realized.

6 bucks per game, that is. More than that and I'll be angry...just a bit... maybe.

The digital games don't carry over? Thats crazy and not like how they have treated them in the past.

I don't have many PS2 digital since I own most on discs and have a launch PS3 but this still really sucks if true. They better not do it for PSOne games too. I have a ton of those

They're probably going to charge $20 per game. It sucks for people who no longer have a working ps2. I kept mine and it still works after 10 years.

Just on the implications we know of right now for this classic feature, its great for expanding the library for those who have never played these classic games and need more games to play on PS4.

For those of us who have amassed quite a library, its a bit shit.

Just based on what we can glean.

Can't wait for people who ridiculously got their hopes up for disc based emulation to now be outraged at Sony. It was never going to happen. Not sure why the thought was ever entertained.

The bigger problem that there seems to be is that the ps2 classics I bought digitally aren't going to count, either

I thought only the premium elite or whatever it was called had PS2 emulation?

Regardless, only launch models ran PS2 discs.

In addition to both launch models, the first revision of the PS3 (CECHE01) played ps2 discs. It was the 80GB model released in 2007 that removed some emulation related hardware and went with a software hybrid approach.

Loved this game back in the day.

Music was great and I continue to name my characters Toan in every adventure game (including Zelda).

Yeah... you do know there are a crap-ton of PS2 games that never existed as PS2 Classic, right? From companies that are defunct (like THQ and Midway, for example)?

I mean, it's crazy to imagine you could just plop in a disc and play it... even though the PS3 did that. And Xbox One is now doing it. And the Wii U does it....

How silly of us to even dare to hope they could do what they did last time.

I'm fully aware. WiiU can play games one generation behind (Wii). PS3 could play games one generation behind (PS2) while the SKUs had hardware emulation, and very poorly once it switched over to software emulation, and then was removed altogether.

XBO allow you to play games one generation behind (360) with limited support.

I'm fully aware of licensing issues with defunct developers, but it was never likely, or even feasible, that sony was going to allow you to emulate PS2 on PS4. Technical hurdles notwithstanding, it just doesn't make any sense to drop a bunch of development resources to allow people to go buy used games or use their already owned games that are 2 generations old on a current platform.

FFS, you can buy a PS2 slim for $20 or less on Craigslist

this is a bummer
obviously sony tweaking the rendering resolution and added trophies means they can sell the game again as something new
but i dont give a shit about that stuff
i'd rather just be able to play the "classic" versions or my discs than these "enhanced" versions

edit: this has me worried about ps1 classics support.

Dark Cloud should be called Weapon Degradation in Ugly Dungeons. Because that's what it is. I hate this game.

Dark Cloud 2 aka Dark Chronicles is a much better game.
Btw my most wanted PS2 Classics are basically all the games in the Onimusha series.
Also I'd like to replay an old Konami gem, Shadow of Memories.

Lol, having to buy PS2 Classics again? Can eff off.

I'll just continue emulating via PCSX2 tyvm. Not buying games for the third time.

The third . thirst (damned autocorrect autocorrecting to the wrong word) meter was much more constricting than the weapon degradation.

I think you need to also mention your hatred for that.

Infact, just ignore Dark Cloud 1 all together and go for 2 everyone.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Gameplay Video 4? Does that mean there are 3 other Dark Cloud PS4 videos or 3 other PS2 classics?

Glad I just bought a PS2. Gonna have a lot of space taken up by games, but hell, at least I'll be able to actually play old games

Please re- buy all the games you already bought. We promise the prices will be... fair.

*tee hee*

I'm not saying it's a good thing but who exactly collects old games but doesn't have a BC ps3? I'm just curious as every time these topics come up its like everyone appears to have legacy games but nothing to play them on?

Doesn't really affect me as I never go back to old games

Insane For Sony
Let's hope they offer a cross buy for the PS2 classics we've already bought, when the identical releases come out on PS4.

Don't forget if you forget to put a repair powder on your weapon before it breaks it's gone for good!

Wear and tear on weapons is totally where it's at!
