Sony leaks Dark Cloud PS2 for PS4

"PS2 Classics and PS2-Formatted discs are incompatible with the PS4 system."

Fuck this shit. Especially the PS2 Classics part.

No way in hell I'm purchasing a PS2 game on PSN for the second time.

this over and over..
no offense, i won't be buying AGAIN what i already own..
this is the digital future that we asked for.......... nope

I would be on board for Dark Chronicle (aka Dark Cloud 2). The first game, not so much. I found it quite charmless and that it lacked atmosphere when I rented it about 14 years ago.

I know I'm setting myself up for disappointment, but I hope this points to a new entry in the series. Always thought Sony should have doubled-down on its as their major adventure series, a la Zelda.

Why don't mods merge this thread with other thread? Because no one discuss about Dark Cloud :'(

Ah, finally :3

Why? As of now, this is true because Sony hasn't announced anything yet. After this weekend things could be a lot different. Also, is Dark Cloud on PSN in EU? Because it's not on the NA store. So I don't get why they would say it's incompatible when it's not even a PS2 classic on PSN.

Did the two Dark Cloud games sell good? With both games coming to Ps4, maybe a third one has a chance.

I'm hoping they're actually announcing Dark Cloud 3 tomorrow, and releasing the first two on PS4 in support of that. It's what I've been hoping for since the Dark Chronicle PEGI rating in September.

Really disappointing, especially after Microsoft's stance with 360 BC on XB1. Feels like Sony is trying to burn through all their goodwill they earned these past few years.

I'm fine with this with the addition of trophies and share feature and what not. And I'll buy it when level 5 announced dark cloud 3 at psx tomorrow

Yeah, there is no way I will repurchase PS2 classics again. I couldn't care less about trophies. It would have been nice to have a proper emulator on PS4. It's very disappointing that Sony decided to go for a money grab and basically said f-you to all the customers who bought things on PS3.

Oh well, there is always PC emulation I guess, however imperfect for some games.

I'm not entirely sure I'm up to speed on the Roguelike term, but dungeons are randomly generated so it does have that in common. It's not particularly hard or unforgiving like Roguelike games though, although weapons deteriorate and break quickly so that is highly annoying. I personally wasn't a fan of the randomly generated dungeon idea, in either this or its sequel. I can't remember much about the bosses themselves, although I know that there's a mini-boss in the first dungeon which is a QTE fight, and I was disappointed I couldn't actually fight it myself.

Maybe it just mean you got to wait for your PS2 Classic game to get the PS4 treatment before being able to play it. Charging for it again would be just ridiculous and stupid (it would certanly make them less money).

Well, this isn't the same. It appears they're adding trophies to the games and reworking them to be more like ports than just an iso dump that runs exactly as it did on the ps2.

I mentioned elsewhere, I'm okay with them charging so long as they offer heavy discounts to folks who already bought these games as PS2 Classics, like what Nintendo did with their Wii VC games on Wii U. if they expect everyone to pay full price then, yeah, that's super fucked.

Problem is, even if that is the case as for why, most people surely don't care about trophies in their ps2 games compared to the option of just being able to play them without rebuying them. That seems horribly out of touch with consumer desires if it's why.

Guys I never got to play dark cloud either first or the second. But reading how liked it guys make me want to play it.So I had a few questions:

What kind of game is this I get it's a Jrpg but what makes it special?

Will it be good knwoing that I have not nostalgia for it ?

How lenghty is it?

(My english can be bad so if you have trouble understanding me please tell me I'll be happy to rephrase)

I really hope they won't just release Dark Cloud 1 right away and let us wait for Dark Cloud 2 later down the line. I also hope they'll be available this month rather than 'spring 2016' which will inevitably become summer 2016 knowing Sony lately. Although, the emulator seems already done, so I'm hopeful for a December release. Just release DC2 for PS4 tomorrow Sony, thanks!

As for people that have never played either and are curious: from what I heard back then, it's best to skip DC and head straight into DC2. I never played the first one but enjoyed the second one a lot.

It's an arpg with randomized dungeons and city building with some wonky designs(thirst meter lolol)

It's probably better to wait for the MUCH more refined sequel

You underestimate how much of a draw trophies are. Sony won't even add PS3 games without trophies to PS+ for fear of backlash.

I don't understand all the hate. You can still play in your ps3/2 if you have it. Its basicaly like a poor remaster for ps4.

You guys really thought your PS2 discs would work?

Seriously? This is something you thought?

No seriously?
B..b..but Microsoft!

Even Nintendo who are pro BC don't let you play GC discs on the WiiU. As for PS3 BC on the PS4, it's already well known that the cell is a bitch to work with.

They worked on early PS3's. PS1 discs worked on all PS2 and PS3's. Gamecube worked on Wii, and Wii worked on Wii U. GB worked on GBA, GBA on DS, DS on 3DS. As long as there hasn't been a physical reason why they won't work, it's been present It's not like there's not a precedent for it.

But I'm not that disappointed about the discs though PS2 Classics though? That's another matter altogether.

Wii has one of those weird funky disc drives that allowed the smaller Gamecube to slot in properly. It was removed for Wii Mini and isn't present in Wii Udue to extra hassle and expense. There's a physical limitation on the drive itself to the disc size

Thanks. Maybe I will wait for sale though, like you I'm not a fan of quick durable weapons/items in game.

Yo if Dark Cloud 3 is really the Level 5 JRPG they are working on ......

You know what no.

No way this system ends up with FFVII-R, the last Guardian, Shenmue 3, Nier 2, FFXV, DQXI, Persona 5, Ace Combat, Dark Cloud 3 and on and on. No way. Just too good to be true

I do find it odd that is the game they leak though. Dark Cloud was a niche title. Probably 98% of PS4 owners shrugged at that leak

Even without dc3 the list is already dream tier :p

Really expected existing PSN purchases to transfer over, even if not upressed. Shame. I'll stick to my actual PS2 yet (or Pcsx, assuming I had a beefy PC!)

Yeah until Sony was like screw putting the PS2 inside the PS3 this is bananas and chucked that ish and never looked back.

None of that has anything to do with discs themselves not working. I feel like people don't actually understand anything about optical media in this thread sometimes - hint: if you think a PS4 is incapable of reading a PS2 disc, you are VERY wrong.

It is entirely possible that they couldn't find a satisfactory way to ensure the discs were genuine, but that would be completely unrelated. I won't claim to know shit about the security side of it all.

That made sense because without the PS2 parts the PS3 emulation of PS2 games wouldn't have been at an acceptable standard across a wide enough range of games. They were technically limited. That shouldn't be the case any more so Sony deciding not to allow it is a deliberate decision to prevent people from playing their discs.

And again I'm not that bothered by Discs. It's the Classics that are important. What's your stance on them? I'm reserving full judgement until an official announcement, but if this is true I feel it does nothing to foster consumer trust and I'd feel inclined to never purchase anything from PSN again despite having a large library of PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, PSP and Vita games
