I don't think there's any reason for this to be VR exclusive. Ace Combat is one of the most well known franchises in a genre that's the most VR friendly, so I think Sony saw this as an opportunity to advertise PSVR's integration into a new AC.

Didn't the guy say VR exclusive right before the trailer? If so it puts a major wet blanket on the game for me. It means it will be first person only and I don't want to spend the money on a VR device.

It's not VR exclusive, press statement confirms it. Wording during the announcement was slightly confusing but they meant the VR features are exclusive to PSVR.

But if they're the only console with VR capability, that's all that matters to me. I've been wanting to play Ace Combat in VR ever since I started playing the series. I've tried Elite on Oculus and if it's similar to that but with the blackness of space swapped with the air combat of Ace Combat, then we're in for a treat.

Ace Combat distinguished itself with trailers that showcased both lore and gameplay. But this... I dunno. Still excited for the game but hopefully we get something substantial in the coming months.

Yes!

IMO, nothing compares to Ace Combat in the PS2 days. The gameplay, missions and environments still hold up today. I tried HAWX 2 and didn't like it, some people tell me I should try HAWX 1. But I have tried other Ace Combat imitators and none of them can match the fun of Ace Combat 3/4/Zero.

The first HAWX is a much better paced and polished game than HAWX 2, but it's a very direct imitator of AC (they even plagiarized one mission from AC5), and it doesn't best it any respect really.

It's a good game, but I'd say the best direct AC ripoff is the first Airforce Delta.

I liked HAWX to some extent, so im defintelly going to pick up Ace Combat 7 and try it out

is it one of those situations where western developers tend to focus on making flight mechanics realistically with realistic physics, while Bandai Namco just tries to make flight mechanics fun, and thats probably why its much more acclaimed then the western dogfighting games

I completely agree. Project Aces are on record saying AC is not suited to VR due to motion sickness issues, and Kono has just tweeted that AC7 is not only a VR title. I think it will just be a very minimal feature.

EVE Valkyrie and a few other space titles.

They generally don't look quite as good as other UE4 titles if they have to optimize for VR.
