Final Fantasy VII Remake is a multi-part series

You are all basing this on half a sentence in a PR statement with no further info.
Well guess whose fucking fault that is. Also, we do have info about it being fucking multiple games. That news in itself has NOTHING but negativity about it.

Just from the very nature of being multiple entries means that the team can spend more time and resources to each game. Instead of rushing to finish a massive game in a single entry, they can take their time to meet realistic deadlines and flesh out what they can in each area. It won't be a single budget strained in one single instance, which may cause the company to be weary of the risk of putting all your eggs in one basket, but rather over the course of multiple games, which gives the company time to generate more money and fund them all healthily.

It's a much safer move by SE, and I think the entries will be better for it.

Bingo!

Looking back at when square made original FF7 and now how they're handling this remake it really shows they aren't the same company anymore. FF7 was as ambitious as it was grand, a crowning achievement and a huge budget risk for just one title with the self belief that it would all pay off, and boy did it. That's what the Remake should have been.

They haven't been the same company since Sakaguchi got ousted. People have been saying for years now why this remake would end being trash as made by the current company.

It's just now being made fully apparent to the willfully ignorant.

I don't understand the outrage. If you'd rather wait for the complete game on disc, I'm sure that will eventually happen. Hell, you can buy the Telltale games on disc, I'm pretty sure a big game like this would get a 'complete' disc release as well.

This is a reimagining. It's not the same game you played almost 20 years ago. The sooner you understand this the better off you'll be.

This is just news. The Witcher, Mass Effect, FFXII, and many other series are "episodic", and are not worse for that. In fact, all three got better and better, or at least improved in some areas. This could be the same situation. That's why it's "just news", because in no way is this guaranteed bad news.

You're just taking it as such and blinded by unjustified rage. That's ridiculous. Could it be shit? Yes. But the fact that you're legitimately so upset that you can't sleep over a single vague statement is absolutely insane.

FFXIII was a mess that had a few bright spots. The battle systems in 1 and 2 were good. I have no clue what the hell they did with LR not having weapon crafting unless you're on hard mode? The hell? And the story was incomprehensible. I still have no idea what happened.

First they give us an utterly shitty game.
Then they give us a sequel to an utterly shity game no one asked for.
Then they give us a sequel to a sequel to an utterly shity game no one asked for either.
Then they remove one of the most interesting female characters and replace her with a blonde anime trope.
Then they alter everything about a promising game and replace the director.
Then they cocktease us with a FF 7 remake only to troll us.
Then they fucking hype us only to immediately remind us what a shit show of company they are.

At this point, I would have rather see Square going bankrupt and seeing the IP in the hand of people who actually like games and their player base and not only the color of their money.

Wait, what?

Look you foolish person. The Hobbit was written as one book. That didn't stop the amazingly talented Peter Jackson from making it a EPIC trilogy of films. That turned out fine right? ....right?

I was actually just waiting for this response to my post. I honestly don't even know where to start. To me, it's actually unfathomable to even think that a fan could wait that long - when the content is out and everyone is playing it. It would require the self-discipline of Bugenhagen himself.

So you'd be fine waiting 5 years for the complete experience if no one else can play it, but not fine waiting 5 years if other people can play bits and pieces of it before then?

I guess that's why the trailer was mostly from the opening scene. They learned from XV that creating an entire game at once takes a really long time. We'll probably get Part 1 in 2016, as opposed to the whole game next generation if they can develop the game while releasing individual parts. The final collector's edition will probably be nice, too. It might also pave the way for more unconventional remakes, like VI, if episodic production turns out to be feasible. They might also be able to tweak the game based on feedback, like Duscae, so the final game might be better if the combat in Part 1 is weak.

I just went through the five stages of grief in 30 minutes. I'm still sad that this happened, but it's becoming more understandable I suppose.

This is actually a really good move on Square's front. By leveraging a much-desired property such as FFVII into an episodic series, they stand to make a lot more money than if they would've sold it as one game by itself. Episodic games are where the real stories in this industry are told, and if given the opportunity, I'd rather spend more money on a worthwhile series of carefully-crafted gameplay and cinematics rather than one value-oriented release that I'll play then sell back to Gamestop.

The 40 pages of reactions are a bit much, but I will say to the complainers' credit, Square should rightfully get flak for being so vague. You can't just drop a one-line statement about this and run off.

Hyperbole how? They did all that. It's not like I making stuff up. lol
Calling the 3 games "utter shit", saying that changing directors for FFXV was bad.

That's fucking hyperbole.

If the change in director didn't happen for XV, the game would never even see the light of day. Have you forgotten that it was announced in 2006? That's like, 10 years ago, dude.

Your post makes it sound like SE ripped out your soul and shat on it.

As always in the entertainment and video game industry: if you don't like a thing, don't buy it or support it. Don't act like things not being like you want means that it's the end of the world.

Opinions, man.

You are wrong if you assume that the "episodic structure" doesn't have an impact on the game itself. 1 big game doesn't equal 5 connected smaller games.

I was really curious as to why everything was of Midgar. Was it because they've just been working sequentially on the game or what?

Ending of each part:
Part 1: Leaving Midgar
Part 2: Aeris death
Part 3: Finale

$180 for all 3 or buy all 3 at the start for $150!

I agree. Just need some microtransactions and DLC to go along with that 4x20 tag and we will have a full game on our hands.

What makes you think that they'll be $20? I'm expecting $60.

Also, I'm willing to bet each episode is going to be padded out in order to make each game longer, meaning grinding out the wazoo and god knows what else. Hopefully not, but I have a hard time imagining them selling a $60 single player RPG that's only 10-15 hours long. (The original was about 35-40 hours, and if it was only going to be 2 parts they'd probably have said two parts, at the same time I can't imagine them going for less then 10 hours without being insane.)

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?

Yes because in the end, I know that the product will be complete in a way that I know Square's developed it from start to finish as a complete package. There won't be any 'cuts' in-between acts like a fucking HBO TV-series.

Considering how impossible it supposed to be to remake FFVII, what's cheaper for Squeenix?

Release the game in 3 separate parts for each disc... and all the work that would entail..

Or release about 7 split up episodes spread across. roughly, this decade and a bit past.
Honestly for SE it's probably cheaper to do a massive release. They are so disorganized trying to do 7 unique releases will be a logistics nightmare for them and they'll be stuck in development hell.

Laugh all you want. Call me childish. Make fun of the hashtag from.that other thread. Doesnt matter much to me. NO, my world isn't ending. No, I don't expect to be successful at forcing Square's hand. Too many people already rationalizing and justifying purchases of a single game chopped up to sell to you piecemeal.

But at the end of the day if you don't at least try, if you just take whatever line of shit is fed to you, then you deserve what you get.

Judging by the responses, many people deserve whatever butchering happens to the game. When I say I won't buy something based on principle, I don't. Many gamers bitch and moan and still buy, but I do not. I haven't touched Madden in years. Quit CoD and BF after Ghosts and 4, and will write off any other developer that I feel is taking advantage of my money and/or time.

You finally step out of Midgar and stare at the beautiful distance. A huge overworld stretches as far as the eye can see, rendered in perfect HD graphics. Your characters look stoic and prepared. Ready for a new adventure.

"To be continued in Final Fantasy VII Remake, Part 2".

FUUUUUUUCK.

Then you have to wait 6 months for the next episode. You finally download it, start it and...

Your characters immediately start at Kalm. You cannot leave the town. Cloud comments on how amazing it was to get there, to fight the monsters, to see the creatures, to see the hills and plains.

Good lord this is absolutely terrifying....

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
DQIX on DS might have been worse.

How about FFXIII coming to Xbox 360?

Man, SE sure knows how to excite/breakdown fans:

Final Fantasy VII Remake announced
Final Fantasy XIII coming to Xbox 360
Wada resigns
DQIX announced for NDS
Star Ocean 5 announced

Imagine the page activity if it was: Chrono Break announced for iOS/Android

I need more information. Gut instinct is that this could be terrible, but there is the possibility that this could be decent.

Makes me think of the recent comments about FFXV saying the game is finished and the first part is polished enough for retail. How would we react if SE got up on stage at PSX and said FFXV-1 is available right now with an expected clear time of story content of 25-30hours? Then said FFXV-2 would complete the story 1 year later?

I guess they figured it would take them 10 years to make it as 1 game. So: episodes.

At least this means I'll get to at least play the first few episodes before I die of old age.

Who honestly thought this game was fully ready by 2016???

Maybe they can hire Kojima to finish the game before the generation is over.

It will be interesting to see how they do it. I'm not invested in the game, but this experimenting on Square's part is intriguing.
