Media Create Sales: Week 49, 2015 (Nov 30 - Dec 06)

Huge Monster Hunter X numbers - and it's supply constrained as well. The game is gonna outsell Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, and might approach Monster Hunter 4... The IP is really making bank on 3DS. Mario & Luigi bombed hard - worse debut ever for the sub-franchise - AlphaDream could start working on something else, after all.

Yo-Kai Watch Busters increase is crazy - the game might reach 2m units, which is pretty good considering the sales of the mainline series. Splatoon and Super Mario Maker are also showing nice increases.

3DS software showing some holiday legs: Disney Magic World 2, Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, Sumikko Gurashi 2, Rhythm Heaven: The Best+.

Amazed about the super-poor performance of Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon - as already said, the game bombed hard during the first period but I thought it could have caught up a bit as holidays were approaching. Instead, it seems struggling to sell 300k.

Hw-wise, 3DS is keeping up with last year's pace, which wasn't that obvious given the N3DS launch. At this point, 20m units don't look as farfetched as they were in October.

Nintendo struck gold with Splatoon.

Imagine a game of that caliber on a system that people want.

Especially in case the NX takes off, there's no doubt in my mind that a Splatoon sequel is coming. The IP could be a big seller for years to come as long as Nintendo keeps it "fresh."

Fucking Monster Hunter man. Nothing else even stands a chance. Really makes you wonder what will happen when PS4 gets a Monster Hunter game. How much of a bump will it give a home console as opposed to the insanity that occurs on handhelds whenever they release I wonder.

Lol, what makes you think it will?

CoD has really nice legs!

Really nice legs, eh? Do you want same week for last year's underperformed entry?

Mario Maker almost at half a mil
Splatoon keeps on trucking. It could very easily reach 1 million by March, I think.
It'll reach it (retail) in januari. It will just miss to get there by new year, but the first week of januari is usually quite strong in japan also.
4 weeks * 35.000 is all it needs to perform, that doesn't include the even bigger holiday boost that can be expected, especially now it's bundled.

So basically no more metroid, f zero, star fox, yoshi, is what you mean lol

When is the last time we saw Metroid, F Zero, Star Fox... :) (I honestly dont know about Star Fox or F Zero)

Worldwide sales from October:
F-Zero (SNES) 2,85
Metroid Prime (GC) 2,78
Splatoon (Wii U) 2,42

Splatoon is definitely going to surpass the highest selling Metroid and F-Zero games. It's also already ahead of any Pikmin, Fire Emblem or Kid Icarus.

Interesting...thanks for this.

I get what you are saying, but that comparison is not one to one. Advanced Warfare had the dubbed edition come out this week last year so it makes sense that it would have higher than normal sales

That comparison is as one to one as it goes.

ps. I don't think I can stand second thread in a row with Monster Hunter again.

My point is that I think BO3 will see better legs than advanced warfare. Last year week 49 was an outlier for advanced warfare. Even if it doesn't see better legs, your post makes it seem like BO3 has disastrous legs

I wonder what the margins look like on a 3ds vs a ps4?

When you consider that Nintendo actually has two viable pillars worldwide, their sales totals are not really even that far below Sony. And they will easily beat MS for the year in total 3ds + Wii U units.

I'm willing to bet this won't be the only MH title on the platform, much like how DQ Heroes wasn't the only DQ headed to PS4.

Monster Hunter isn't DQ and Capco isnt SE. There have been other console MH games before, but they're mostly been their own versions or spinoffs that haven't done too well. IIRC MHTri for the Wii was the first and only "mainline" MH game on console

  10. [PS3] Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woes and The Blight Below*: 453.142

Splatoon has almost undoubtly sold over a million units in Japan, using Famitsu again

[WIU] Splatoon: 954.067 (Retail: 845.959, Digital: 108.108)

From Nintendo's data we know that Famitsu's digital is wrong by about 50k, so it should by nicely pasted 1m.

Well if we don't count the origin of the series on Ps2 with MH 1 and 2.

Good results also for Wii U, I think nobody thought possible to see it so firmly up YoY..

Depend... if you wanna my honestly opinion, i predicted Wii U up YOY even before Splatoon released.

But yeah, didn't expected Wii U up YOY by starting 2015.

Nintendo really dominated this year.

Like last year, and the year before that, and the year before before that, and the year before before before that... :p

01./01. [3DS] Monster Hunter X # <ACT> (Capcom) {2015.11.28} (¥6.264) - 332.478 / 1.820.845 (-78%)

?????

Monster Hunter 1 and 2 were both on consoles.

4 has been the only "mainline" title that has skipped consoles completely.

Those Nintendo system legs. Sometimes I wonder if Nintendo rallied for a bunch of holidays for more weeks of good sales for them. Poor M&L. It looks good. Lol Yokai Just Dance. Even amiibo bomba beat it.

Monster Hunter X is a lock of course, but by the end of the year, we could also see Yokai Watch Busters squeak by 2 million and 3DS LTD squeak by 20 million. Let's hope the little guy has one strong year left in it with DQ11 and whatever else.

Great that PS4 and Wii U are both still up YoY too. Keep buying Splatoon, Mario Maker, and ...whatever it is you're buying on PS4, Japan.

Let's see my predictions so far ( back in June 2015): ( important note, didn't knew Media Create has 53 weeks this year, i thought this was a 52 weeks year)

3DS - 2.5 million
Overestimated, it need an avg. of +170k all week of 2015 for break those numbers.
It will most likely sell 2.3 million or 2.4 million, so all considering not that off.
NEW PREDICTION: 2.35 million

PS4 - 1.25 million
Underestimated, it need an avg. of 30k all week, and is already over those numbers, it will probabily sell more than 1.3 million.
NEW PREDICTION: 1.35 million

PSV - 900K
Underestimated, it need an avg. of less than 15k and is already over 20k.
NEW PREDICTION: 950k

WII U - 750K
Underestimated, it need an avg. of 36k all week, and is over 32k this week, it will probabily be always over 40k the nexts 4 weeks...
NEW PREDICTION: 850k

...And just for fun :p

XB1 - 25K
MASSIVE overestimated xD it need an avg. of >1.5k all week, and yeah, doubt it...
NEW PREDICTION: 20K

So, all considering:
Not so bad, i just overstimarted a bit 3DS, and underestimated a bit all the rest ( withouth XB1 :p ).

Haha yea going by the reactions here I see I might have made a mistake... Aaaaanyway, not really sold on DQ being a heavy hitter for home consoles. FF I could see but DQ seems to have shifted heavily to handhelds and I fully expected the 3DS version to absolutely destroy the PS4 version in Japan.

Replace "DQ" with "MH" and your post would still be true. That's staying on handheld, at least for main series. Return on investment must be crazy high on MH, being an annual series with relatively low development costs. Probably damn near bankrolling Capcom's entire gaming division at this point.

Or I dunno, how's their mobile stuff doing? I don't really pay attention to that.

If the Wii U maintains the percentage bumps of last year Holiday Season it will easily sell over 150K this December and there is still a million seller coming up at the end of December ;)

Splatoon should be 1 million physical by the end of the year. What is the top selling Wii U game right now?

So the Smash Direct in December is the final one.

In the last direct, there was also a statement that there'd be more Splatoon content "until at least January", implying that the content might stop (or get notably less significant) after that point.

I get the sense they're ramping production on the sequels around that time, and want anyone working on DLC to move over.

Nintendo doesn't have any other service games with outstanding DLC at that point either, right?
