Bungie updates Destiny patch notes after patch goes live due to decimal fail

Oh shit the game police are here!

Only Destiny could make people have total meltdowns over a typo and/or <10% changes to damage values.

Way to completely miss the point. This isnt about the weapon changes its about their response to an issue with their patch. Basically rather than apologizing or clarifying that it will come in a later patch they are attempting ot play it off like it was intended the whole time when that is very obviously not the case.

i feel bad for people still in this game. iv'e debated coming back to it but it's just a shit show at this point. a real kick in the balls to people that play this everyday.

sell it and never look back people
I stopped playing it in March, and then picked up the whole Taken King package on sale during Black Friday. I'm glad I did not pay $20 each for The Dark Below and The House of Wolves, because there is not much there by way of new content. Taken King at least adds the Dreadnaught but it is hard to believe they have added only one new area in fifteen months. Pretty much rounding my way back to not caring about it. There are way more games out now than this time last year, so it is not the constant co-op fixture on my friends list like it used to be.

Not saying that's what happened, but it's a lot easier to change the notes than to change the code.

the halo series got good after 3 . :) thanks 343
Wow, yeah no. 343 has made halo worst than Bungie, halo 5 is pretty good but I still think the Bungie halo games are vastly better This is a big fuck up on bungies part but hopefully they will correct it soon.

The more I think about this, it sounds like a typo. 1.04 multiplier is equivalent to a 4% increase.

They are saying their rebalance was 0.04% though which would be the equivalent of 1.0004 multiplier. How does that make ANY sense? It's a negligible change.

No, they said the change was 4%. Then the balance notes said 0.04%. I am suggesting that the rebalance notes were a typo.

0.04 = 4%
4% =/= 0.04%

the multiplier would be 1.04x

Great patch bungle :(

I don't know how the quality approval process works, but I am sure it is meant to be of a higher standard than this. More rushing to hit deadlines at the expense of quality....

I just saw this and was curious - how much damage do these weapons do on average? In order to see 1 damage point of difference with a 0.04% boost (1.0004 multiplier), the weapon would need to do 2,500 base damage.

Auto rifles do about 20 damage per bullet. So this 'buff' is almost literally nothing. Not even worth the bandwidth I had to use to download the patch.

Really? How is Bungie the most dishonest developer in a world full of Steam Early Access sham artists, Kickstarter failures, and Gearbox?

They are definitely the most dishonest major dev. I don't keep tabs on "Joe's Basement Games" to know what's going on with indie devs and kickstarter. The slick thing about Bungie is they don't straight lie, they lie by omission. Hiding important information and hoping noone notices.

Another example is paid emotes now drop as Nightfall rewards. How many people would have purchased emotes if this was known ahead of time? Not very many. That's shady as fuck.

I'm actually curious about this as well....how exactly is Bungie dishonest? My impression of them (as a former Halo and current Destiny player) is that they have a crop of VERY talented employees. I could be wrong, which is why I ask, how are they shady or dishonest?

I'm not entirely sure what is going on with their communication / patch notes, but the in-game changes are clearly not ~.9% for Pulse Rifles. Lyudmila-D for example was reduced by ~20%. Unlike the Assault Rifle changes (which are listed in the same format as the Pulse Rifle ones) the reduction is very easily observable.

Some people really don't like Destiny and exaggerate anything that happens related to the game or Bungie themselves to a ridiculous degree to justify their stance.

That said, this incident is really dumb and I hope they fix it.

Bungie's communication with their community has been spotty to poor over the past year, but this is really kind of amazing. Updating patch notes to reflect the change after the fact - fine. Acting like it was intentional all along / not communicating or acknowledging the mistake and/or plan to fix it - baffling.

it's been pretty bad since launch. i've been saying that for a long time in the previous OTs. their communications might be one of the worst.

effing up patch notes is pretty hilarious.

My issue isn't with Bungie's mistake in the patch, or even that they tried to hide it by updating the patch notes. It's that they have the worst communication of any developer that I've ever followed.

For a company that posts weekly updates, ViDocs and has a community manager, they are absolutely atrocious at communicating important things.

Since day one, Bungie has promised to make Destiny a living breathing world and take gaming to new heights with it. This is the reason they left Microsoft. To work on something brand new and chase their dreams.

I love Destiny. But this is what they had in mind? All this time and money later they have a game that is subpar in story telling and a plot that doesn't really accomplish anything, short in content, attempted to do vehicles but failed miserably, has a fair number of multiplayer maps but several that are throwaways, a handful of multiplayer modes and...that's it. The combat is great and the raids are good gun and challenges but the game pales in comparison to what payers were repeatedly promised and what Bungie continues to promise.

I still have high hopes for Destiny 2. And Bungie has made a few good corrections with The Taken King. They've laid a good base. With raids, strikes, Iron Banner, Trials of Osiris, Sparrow Racing, public events, quests, bounties, etc. But Destiny should have launched with all these activities. And many more zones. Hell, we should be seeing space combat as well.

Typos, poor balancing, and being snarky to the user base, they right across the hall from Blizzards offices? Crazy. Game coulve been something special, but bungie finding ways to somehow try to get you to hate their game.

They do on average a hundredth of that. ~25 damage and thats being generous.

0.04 = 4%
4% =/= 0.04%

Its not though. There is absolutely 0 difference as far as anyone who has tried testing it can tell. 4% would be perceptible. 0.04% is not.

I honestly wonder how the next Destiny is going to sell. I see so much hatred for the franchise presumably from people who bought the first one.

Take pulse rifles for e.g Original stated reduction (by type) 9%, 8%, 8% and 2% New reduction 0.9%, 0.9%, 0.9% and 0.97% only one possible typo there, plus the actual damage drop is anything from 9% to 19%

Don't even know how perceptible a 4% increase would be for auto-rifles, of all things. Guess it would have to come down to how the damage is rounded.

This is truly me just being salty, but sometimes it feels like Bungie does shit like this purposely to troll us. I remember when they claimed to be nerfing shotguns only to add the Felwinter's Lie in the very same update!

I even have to admit that Crucible, my favorite part of Destiny, has become just about unplayable. I mean hit scan snipers, useless weapon classes (most fusion rifles & hand cannons), and worst of all putting you in matches that are mid way or about to end.

Didnt it happened too with the $20 emotes too to be sold separatelly when the Silver vendor opened I think they got silver coin in advance but still it wasnt mentioned those emotes will be exclusive? And certain people getting a emotes pack for free because they were well known by Bungie and it wasnt mentioned at all.

Daaaaamn. I haven't played in a couple months now but I checked in on this topic to see what all the fuss was about with the gun update. Now I see this. Damn that's low

I guess this is the free content Silver is supposed to pay for...

So now they're saying the notes were wrong and not the actual changes?

Doesn't quite add up, as the OP notes - 0.04% is no real difference in damage. What is even the point?

Auto rifles are STILL going to be weak, bros.

I dont even know where to begin. They are not just dishonest or shady, they are also extremely arrogant and dickish.

Before I start, i should say that I really like Destiny and have put in over 400 hours. I will defend its gunplay for hours and I truly believe that its one of the finest shooters released in the last few years.

That said, I cant defend the following:

  • - Showing entire world and content in the pre-release trailers that was not in the final game.
  • - Selling the game as an adventure where you would discover and find weapons unique to you. Every weapon has their own story! All bs.
  • - Ridiculous loot drop system that had legendaries turn into Rare weapons and armor half the time at launch. Took nearly a month to get fixed.
  • - Telling us that the loot has improved, but actually ended up decreasing the loot drops. Especially in the VoG Raid. I got the level 30 boots and guantlets on my very first Raid run which i didnt even complete. Didn't get a single armor piece after the 'loot' fix in 9 more Raid runs.
  • - Did the same with the Kings Fall Raid. Loot drops have been improved! Nope, everyone still gets shards from the Totems and Warpriests on Normal.
  • - They dont fix game breaking glitches for months! Titans have been broken for 3 months now. Iron Banner was a pain with the infinite shadow strike glitch. VoG Atheon is STILL glitchy after a year. They dont fix this stuff, but any glitch that costs them money they fix immediately. See the $10 book glitch that was fixed in two days.
  • - Needless tinkering with the game's economy to make life harder on gamers. Nerf Strange Coins drops. Nerf weapon parts. And when people call them out on it, the response is an extremely condescending 'This is our game, we reserve the right to change whatever we want.'
  • - Removing content from people who didnt upgrade. When TDB came out, people who didnt buy DLC couldn't play Dailies, Weeklys or Nightfalls anymore if they contained content from the DLC. They didnt support both the Vanilla and DLC playlists. Unforgivable.
  • - Above all, they dont respect our time. There is a weekly questline in the game that has nearly 30 steps. Each has you WINNING multiple PvP games with a certain score, weapon or both. I remember counting and it required almost 60 wins in PvP. Over 100 games. The reward? a 150 Rocket Launcher in a game where the max is 320.

I wonder how much time and resources were used to make this 0.04% change. I hope that Bungie thinks it was worth it.
