Sony announces partnership w/ KojiPro, New IP, 1st game "console exclusive to PS4"/PC

There may be some good people left at Konami USA, and hopefully they get out.

At E3 this year, I talked to all these people we work with now in testing, loc, etc. that used to work at Konami.

And they all had nothing but awful things to say about how unethical the company is run, that they were all treated terribly, etc. Everyone is so glad to be out of there.

Weren't some former Team Silent folks relegated to mobile games by Konami? IDK if this is still the case. It was a long time ago that I heard something like that.

Any offical confirmation of other legacy KojiPro members joining the team? Ken? Yoji?

Hopefully between that and this, people can finally let the 'Tomb Raider timed exclusivity is the worst thing to happen to gaming' hyperbole die.

I'd say the situations are entirely different. Unlike SFV, where the biggest chunk of its fans are on PlayStation anyway, Tomb Raider was bound to sell much lower than previous versions because there is no PlayStation version, yet (where, again, the majority of its fans are). A Kojima game will, most likely, do better in the East and EU (PlayStation dominated territories).

So I am assuming KojimaProd will own the IP? Would be one of those rare occasions in a long while if Sony is funding the game without owning the IP considering they rejected Insomniac for the very same reason.

So you are basing this on previous deals. As people already mentioned in this thread, wait until official confirmation from Kojima. You are getting people's hope up with your assumption.

I'm also basing this on terms used by Sony themselves. "Console Exclusive". Why specifically say that if it was just a PS4 title?

Correction Tomb Raider exclusivity was the worst thing that happened to Tomb Raider apparently.

Holy fuck, that is awesome. Kojima is back and knowing Sony he will have alot of freedom of creating something amazing..

Man, it's bizzare some of the stuff you guys post regarding platform begging.

It's not a one console future. SONY and Microsoft are competitive.

If you care that much buy both, support both.

Anyways

I am so happy for Kojima!

Paying to get a game made and paying to keep it off a competitors consoles are two different things and the latter is far worse. This idea that they're the same needs to stop because it's tiresome. If you don't understand the difference, you need to stop talking about it.

The best part about this deal is that it seems like much if not all of Kojipro will be salvaged. They are extremely talented and It was really shitty how they got fucked over by kojima-konami feud. In the age when games like fallout 4/Arkham knight/Just cause exist, I still can't believe how evenly good looking and performing MGS V is on all platforms. Shame about that engine which is going to be used for pachinko machines now.

It's not anti-console salt, it's anti-exclusive salt and I sympathize. I very much agree with his point that locking a game down to one or two platforms shouldn't be a cause for celebration even if you do own said platforms. Today you're happy because your favorite platform "won", tomorrow you'll be sad that you won't be able to play a game that you're interested in without spending hundreds of dollars on yet another gaming device.

If the platform is not worth the ROI why should the company make the game for it .
Or if the platform holding is funding why should someone be angry ?

Why not? Sony helped SFV and that game is coming to PC. They helped make No Man's Sky, still coming to PC. They're not in competition with each other so Sony doesn't seem to care as long as its console exclusive. Note, they use that term.

Who will own the IP?

If Kojima, then I imagine it comes to PC (and he prolly does own it)

If Sony, then it won't (see Bloodborne)

The examples you gave Sony doesn't own the IP

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Very nice that Sony acted as fast in this one. People need to slow down with the port begging as well... This game won't be out for another 2-3 years, if you don't own a PS4 by then after all what is announced its your fault.

I really doubt that Sony will own the IP... Doubt Kojima would be interested in such a deal after Konami more or less took MGS from him.

This is great news. Really looking forward to the game.

Don't know why people keep bringing up XBO in the topic. The man is a newly started high profile Japanese developer. If he decides to go anywhere it's probably with Sony since they have the resources and don't mind a PC-port. Microsoft isn't relevant in his home territory.

The thing with TB, I like the guy, but I know he wouldn't be saying the same things if it was PC only.
He wouldn't say a word if it was PC exclusive. He paid lipservice in a tweet reply about XCOM2, but I don't remember him making near the amount of stink about that game's exclusivity as he is about this situation. Particularly about a game that you know, doesn't even exist.

We don't know. The PSNation rumor that called the timing/general info said it was, and the press release says "console exclusive", but no where do they state it's coming to PC as well.

The interview on IGN tomorrow might shed some light if IGN decides to ask about it, but it's not always a topic they cover since they're not really a "rock the boat" type of publication that asks things other than softball marketing questions.

Good point, but so far, going to other platforms is looking like a pipe dream. I think the reason the project is even happening is because its exclusive. But all things eventually come to PC, and the reaper, of course

Why do we have to blame people for port begging when Sony make such an ambiguous terms in the first place?
There won't be port begging if they have the guts to do what should've been done. Make it clear at the first place.

Seriously, shut the hell up about the exclusivity. Nobody's going to give Kojima a giant bunch of money to make his first multiplat AAA game in his first independent studio. It was either gonna be MS or Sony for a AAA game, or independent funding for an indy mobile game.

I'm glad Kojima didn't go the mobile games route.

If it's a horror game they have my full attention.

If it's something else, I'll keep an eye on it, but I'm not overly crazy about Kojima's games.

This is kinda how I feel. I'd really love to see him get back with Del Torro and even the guy who plays Daryl in Walking Dead (who I forget his real life name) and do something similar to what they were planning. Ok, I admit it, I just want the game P.T. was teasing.

Holy balls-shit! This is exciting news for Kojima-San and Sony. I'm anxious to see what he and his team conjure up next.

Very true. Totally forgot about Bloodborne. It would be still be sloppy of Sony to use that term if that isn't what they meant.

That's not even what I'm talking about.

I'm talking about, like, accountants and testers and other functional staff in the US office.

All of them had horror stories about how they were treater, how unethical the company was, etc.

Andrew House has very nice Japanese. Didn't know he spoke it tbh.

As a newcomer to the series the gameplay in MGSV is sublime, so I'm interested to see what he does next.

Yeh, he even leads in Tokyo Game Show, very skilled man (and hes British, go british!!).

On topic, this announcement doesn't surprise me at all. Kojima is PlayStation, and the guys at Sony were clearly going to talk to him about his next plans.

Now just BUY the rights to Silent Hills and get on with that. Surely Konami are looking at selling it, or at the least licensing it, they dont make games anymore.

I doubt MS would have been an option, but hey, you never know. I figured he'd partner with a Japanese company, though, and considering their history, Sony definitely made a lot of sense!

I'm 1st a PC gamer, and then console second, and I think he really needs to lay the fuck off the salt. He needs to calm the fuck down and probably sleep on it. I'm sure it will eventually be on PC, especially if it's only a console exclusive (it doesn't say exclusive to the PS4).

You say that as if announcing it as a complete PS4 exclusive wouldn't have resulted in a mountain of salt and a sea of port-begging posts.

Like I said earlier, I wouldn't agree with it still, but at least wait until we get confirmation on the PC stuff before launching a tirade. Hell, maybe it's going to be exclusive for a "good" reason, like integrating into PSVR.

That was fast, partnership, website, logo, just one day after he left Konami. Best of luck to him and looking forward to see what he does next.

No one should give Konami a fucking dime. That would only reward their behavior.

Also, you don't fund games with budgets like Kojima's for licensed games, you do it to create new licenses to leverage yourself.

Let him make new awesome shit, and just remember what those IPs once were.
