Black Desert NA/EU Closed Beta Thread

Didn't see another thread for this, so I decided to make it.

Is anyone else playing in the first closed beta test? I rolled a wizard last night on the NA server, and have been having fun with the game so far. Bought a shipyard earlier today too. Hopefully I can get one built before the end of the testing period.

Here's my dude btw.

Haven't gotten too far into the game, but the combat seems particularly beefy. Action based, plenty of combo sequences, screen shaking feedback, etc. Haven't seen any enemies that really necessitate the use of any fancy footwork yet though.

I've been spending most of my time doing quests to build up my contribution points, which are basically used to increase your sphere of influence in the world. Residential property, workshops, and resource nodes, can all be acquired in exchange for contribution points. These points are refundable if you decide to set up shop elsewhere, but you lose the gold used to purchase the properties.

A lot of the NPCs you encounter also have amity meters which measure their friendliness towards you. If your character learns enough about a certain subject, you can play a mini-game and small-talk with them to increase it. Once you hit certain milestones, you get access to special services, tidbits of knowledge, or quests to further increase your contribution points.

As I get further along, I'll add more to my impressions.

4 different computer installs only 1 ran it without a crash within the first 3-4 minutes. It can be crash happy as FUUUUUUUUCK.
That being said sometimes it looks ok to awesomeish and plays ok as well. Right now not too special but will need more time to dig in.

So what's the general consensus so far? Looks pretty and the combat is great, from what I hear. Is it as barren as people are stating? Not much to do in the beta?

I hate regional restriction. I live in EU but my country is near Russia so they decided that I can play only on Russian server. Thx Daum Games Europe.

I just got done with a pretty long session and honestly I'm not feeling it. It's good but Blade and Soul just feels more fun. The starter mobs can't even land a single hit and as a Wizard, I just spam lightning and that mana leech skill which is enough to kill anything.

Oh yeah and the fact that I can't remove that dumb wizard hat isn't helping either.

I don't want to be that guy, but does anyone have a spare EU key that can't use for some reason? <3
Would be gladly appreciated.

I signed up for the beta ages ago. Not sure if it was the EU or the Asian one though.
I guess I should check their site and sign up again.

i've been tempted to pre-order which gets you guaranteed beta access but i need to see more about the game other than its pretty graphics and combat. Are there any good beta videos that give you a nice overview of all the game has to offer?

You also have to pre-order the more expensive versions to get any beta access.
To get both betas you need to buy the most expensive.

This sort of bullshit can fuck off.

A guy on YouTube by the name of rendermax usually has some high quality videos of each beta test from jp, kr, and ru betas. He plays mostly kr mmos and edits the videos with music he likes.

i played a couple hours of it today. the combat is really good but MMOs just arent my thing. "Go over there and kill x ammount of y" gets boring.

I think I will spent the majority of my time in the character creator. Is there a way to share your creations online, ala Mass Effect?

Better yet, you can just download someone's character creation info. Don't have to input the code over and over like in Mass Effect just load it up again. I think anyway but like it says in the image you can only have one. No idea if it's been changed.

This game has people with the most whitest teeth.

Colgate, Aquafresh.. I have no idea.
hope the smiling looks more natural since the alpha; will pre-order at some point. One thing that really disappointed me in the alpha was a lack of freckles in the character creator.

also:
my "art" that got me into the alpha

I still can't believe how bad the UI is in this game. Like, it's basically dead in the water due to the terrible UI alone. If they don't fix it they game isn't going to be very well received. Which would be a shame.

Also holy shit at the pop in.

From what I played of the Korean version, it's an alright game, but don't expect it to hold your attention for long. There's not much content, and no endgame. Plus, that was the version of the game well ahead of ours. We've got even less content.

It's poorly optimized, and the questing isn't all that interesting.

All that makes it even more disappointing when you factor in the amazing combat and visuals. So much wasted potential.

Lame. You have to register an account over at jeuxvideo to snag a key and it's a 24-hour registration process.

Pretty much every new MMO ever anymore.

I played it; it's good but yeah, content will be the issue. Unsure if I prefer Blade & Soul/FFXIV/Vindictus/Black Desert as my poison of choice.

Absolutely loathe gender-locked and aesthetic-locked characters. Wizards are gonna look like some kind of old dude pretty much no matter what you do, from what I tinkered with. The gameplay itself is solid but time and time again MMOs have shown that the core gameplay doesn't necessarily matter as much as good world-building and palatable content that takes advantage of the gameplay loops. Exploration in the game seems like it's gonna be very hit-or-miss depending on how they populate the world overall.

Not nearly as interested as I was a year or two ago, which is a shame!

Sheeeit. Sorry bros. Didn't know about the registration process.

Could try dropping a comment on jeuxvideo and seeing if someone PMs you one.

I wish I could, but I don't speak French at all :(

Wish there were an equivalent key-asking thing on here - I'm interested in trying out the non-combat related stuff, and I wanted to get in early so as to see the game evolve over time.

(though I wouldn't mind if someone were feeling particularly generous this holiday season :) )

Decided to take a wee break in Heidel and learned that pretty much every one of the city's hundred or so townsfolk have a line or two of dialogue, and some of them even have knowledge of topics you need for the conversation minigame. Can't talk to them while they're moving though. Pretty cool imo.

Also holy shit at the pop in.

Turn on high end mode to prevent the pop in, but say goodbye to your FPS if you're on a midrange rig. I still have an issue with shadows after the fact, however.
