Armaan Singh Sarai, a 12-year-old boy from an American-Sikh family, was arrested by the Dallas police on December 11 and held for three consecutive days after he was accused by a “bully” in his class of carrying a bomb to school, claims his cousin in a Facebook post.

According to Haer, Armaan was arrested by the police on December 11 on the basis of an accusation by one of his school-mates. Haer writes: “A bully in class thought it would be funny to accuse him of having a bomb, and so the principal, without any questioning, interrogation, or notification to his parents, called the police.”

Haer goes on to describe how Armaan’s family contacted every police department in the area in a bid to locate him, only to find out that he had been sent to a juvenile facility.

An unfortunate time for Sikh right now and generally anyone with a passing resemblance to being of middle eastern descent it seems. Type of ignorance being reported on in just the past week has been astounding. Looked around for more info but I couldn't find any story mentioning the kid even having anything on him the day he was arrested.

Another story with the police claiming he admitted to making the threat as well for those interested. States he made a joke but the family is claiming otherwise, moreover the person being investigated didn't even seem to know how long he was being detained for either... eh.

The student, who hasn’t been identified, accused Sarai on Friday of saying his backpack was wired with a bomb set to go off in a minute, that he would place the bag in a restroom and flee with people waiting outside the school for him, the police report states, according to Cook.

Police evacuated the classroom and concluded that the backpack didn’t have a bomb, Cook said. Sarai admitted to mentioning a bomb and insisted that he was kidding, but was taken to the county’s juvenile detention center.

Junior, please.
I think the bigger problem is the fact that the authorities actually felt it was necessary to actually do anything.

Anywhere else, and the classmate would have got a smack on the wrist, and that would be that. I find this whole trend of actually arresting children over accusations by fellow children extremely disturbing.

And people like fucking Trump is not helping matters with his hate speech. Hate crimes against these poor people are on the rise. In the last couple of weeks has been over 10.

plenty of lawsuits coming in, I wouldn't want to be that principal right now.

Principal should be jailed for child endangerment.

As a Sikh man that sports a turban and a beard, I was actually quite nervous going to Seattle last weekend and was glad to be home in Canada even though nothing happened to me. I read these stories and I feel awful for American Sikhs. I've had racist shit thrown at me after 9/11, and I was like 12.

It sucks. Between this and the guy who got shot in the face (thank God he survived)... I dunno. It sucks feeling this shitty about it. My heart goes out to them.

I'm glad I live in Vancouver.

But Im sure he fabricated this story in order to gain attention and win money in lawsuits right?

Let's start digging into this kid's school records and judge him based on how good of a student he is too for good measure.

I wonder if more sites will pick this up and look into it. Right now all the information is from a Facebook comment and the principal probably won't face any punishment unless this gains traction.

Is there confirmation of this aside from the facebook post from Armaan’s cousin?

Edit: Op added more sources and kid joked about having a bomb...

I am not going to defend anyone but realistically the principal didn't do anything wrong. It was entirely on the police department.

If a principal gets a report that there is a bomb it seems that the only proper thing is to notify the authorities for the safety of all the other students at the school.

The kid was definitely not right to be profiled as he was but the police are more to blame than the principal in this regard.

Hope the kid gets through his alright.

Why would it take three days to figure out if he had a bomb or not? I mean even if you were concerned that maybe he hid it somewhere before police showed up, all you'd have to do is ask the accuser 2 or 3 questions before he would crack and tell the truth. They shouldn't have even left the school.

At least he wasn't shot though.

How is that even remotely acceptable? The kid is fucking 12 years old...

Jesus Christ...

then how about not calling it Islamophobia (which is a stupid word to begin with and not related to this case) and just plain racism?

I know this is defending really shitty behavior, but that's standard procedure in Texas. All bomb threats are to be taken seriously and law enforcement is called in. This is really more of the police's fault.

But its not actually a bomb threat? And surely any decent principal would recognize who the bullys were already and do even a little bit of investigation on their claims.

Does it matter though? He is responsible for the well being of a bunch of students and is probably ill equipped to make a proper determination. Why would he not call it in?

Absolutely abhorrent. Principal should lose her job at the very least, and the police department (and school) sued to shit.

What you're saying actually makes logical sense, but the procedure is still to contact law enforcement as they are supposedly "trained" to deal with this type of thing. Texas has some really draconian procedures when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Wow wtf, that principal deserves jail time

Fuck all these assholes on TV getting away with spewing hate speech that gets innocent kids in serious danger. They don't even care what they're doing to people. And Sikhs aren't even Muslim!!!

3 days?! A 12 year old. Really? Just because of the accusation of another 12 year old kid? Wtf?

I like how they didn't even check or asked him if he had a bomb. Why didn't the police check and then say he hasn't even got a bomb? Instead nah just lock him up.
