Surely Force Ghost Obi-Wan had the time to talk with Leia at least once. Heck, for all we know, Leia could've dealt with Ben before ANH, no?

I'd expect Ben to explicitly avoid Leia before ANH, otherwise he becomes a single point of failure for Vader discovering the twins. The whole point of splitting them up was so Vader wouldn't find out there were two.

"help me obi-wan kenobi. you're my only hope"

That doesn't mean they've met before. If they had met before, why is she addressing him using his last name lol.

In any case, they never met or bonded on screen so I'm not about to get emotional over her remembering a relationship we never saw that she may or may not have had with a ghost.

Has this been posted? A projector in a theatre broke down, and in attempts to fix it, they skip ahead to later parts of the film. Crowd gets pissed. Understandably so, enough to ruin the entire experience

She knew about Obi-Wan Kenobi from her adoptive father Bail Organa who met him in the PT. She didn't know about "Ben Kenobi", although it's fair to assume that Luke or Han must have told her about that nickname inbetween the movies.

Betting Rian Johnson makes a key aspect of Episode 8 some sort of buddy-action-comedy caper flick with Poe & Finn.

You all need to check out The Brothers Bloom asap.

I was thinking about this. Rey spends her half training with Luke while Kylo tries to hunt her and Luke down in an ESB sort of call back, Poe and Finn go off on some sort of adventure that ties into the war, it all ends up slamming together at the end.

Even though it will probably be bad, I still also need to see Leia ignite a lightsaber at least once. Preferably purple.

You know this whole Rey taking out Kylo too easy is a bunch of bullshit.

Dude was shot by a bowcaster which sent stormtroopers flying in scenes before. I feel like people are downplaying this fact. Had he not been shot and emotionally wrecked I'm sure it would have been a much different fight.

I'm starting to get a bit annoyed with the haters.

Exactly baby does no one understand this. They specifically showed him bleeding and wounded several times. They also showed how powerful the bowcaster is several times.

I stand by that post. There is no backpedaling or slandering on my part.

Perhaps you should think twice the next time you throw out blanket accusations and insults in reactionary frustration because too many voices are saying things you don't like to hear.

Uh-huh. Riiiiight.

This is kind of petty, but one thing that bugged me about Finn not being force-sensitive is that I'm sure it gave the casual racists out there a sigh of relief.

Phasma struck me as sequel bait. Mildly established now, probably used as a secondary antagonist in the second film thanks to motivations set in the first.

I'm a little crabby with the marketing there because I was excited to see her play a role other than a causal convenient extra.

Apart from the first teaser trailer, did she appear in much else?

The one that stuck out to me was Constable Zuvio (sp?). His action figure was one of the first released, and I think he appears in the film for maybe half a second.

Man, this movie is everything kid me wanted in a sequel to the original trilogy and I was pretty blown away by how much they didn't show in trailers.

The only thing that bugged me was that the movie ended with finding Luke without so much as a word from him. That said if I am to guess, I'm guessing the OT characters left are gonna bite it in the next movie or the last one. Rey and Finn will probably get Jedi training from Luke in the same way that Yoda trained Luke.

Even for racists that would be a bizarre thought process.

"Well it sucks that there's a black guy in this movie, but at least he can't use the Force!"

Did he get his hand cut off ? I haven't got my second screening yet. I mostly remember he got a few slight cuts and bruises and a scar on his face.

Yeah near the end when he gets knocked down his hand is sliced off, and you see it just lying there chillin in the snow.

Kylos helmet seems massively heavy. He like drops it and SMASHHHH as if it weighs 50 pounds.

Don't let it bug ya. Finn is pretty much loved by a lot of people who saw the movie, and he got to duke it out with a lightsaber a couple times. Stromtrooper to lightsaber-wielder to hero sounds like a pretty good character to me.

Personally, I'm down for whatever they do with him, force user or not. He's fun to watch, especially as he bounces off the rest of the cast.

Episode VIII wishlist for Finn
- Bros out with Poe for a lot if not most of the film
- Poe teaches him how to fly... with less than desirable levels of success
- Finn is interested in finding out where he comes from and tries to find First Order archives
- Is hunted down by Phasma
- Phasma whoops his and Poe's asses but he manages to get the upperhand, maybe through using the Force
- Phasma is forced to yield information on where he comes from and lives
- We find out Finn comes from an ordinary family of farmers or whatever that are living peacefully on some backwater rock
- Finn never actually meets with them, merely watching from afar decides to protect them by committing to the Resistance and/or becoming a Jedi

I like this list. I was really not a fan of his character all that much in the movie, he was too excitable (understandably so with him defecting from the first order but it is star wars) . He needs more fleshing out and something like this would help immensely. Especially because it also would showcase a deeper side of Poe versus him just being the best pilot and there to save the day. I would also love to see Finn get Jedi training from Luke and have two Jedi in the "trio" (if it becomes that) with Poe holding down the Solo/Organa role of old.

Being the Jedi hero in the films is an exclusively white affair.

So that was Rakata Prime from KOTOR right?

It looked a lot like it, especially similar to how they land the Ebon Hawk on the beach and walk up the cliffs.

She knew about "Ben" Kenobi.

Luke Skywalker: I'm Luke Skywalker. I'm here to rescue you.
Princess Leia Organa: You're who?
Luke Skywalker: I'm here to rescue you. I've got your R2 unit. I'm here with Ben Kenobi.
Princess Leia Organa: Ben Kenobi? Where is he?
Luke Skywalker: Come on!

Of course. I'm just saying that Han named the kid Ben after his friend. Leia named the kid Ben after some dude who was important to her baby daddy and to her brother, a friend of her adoptive father.

He had least had ties.

Ties so close that instead of calling him up on his space phone, the Rebellion contacted him by sending drones down onto a planet without even knowing where on that planet he lives.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
Kylo is a big baby and him getting all flustered with his wound after Chewie wrecked his shit followed by Rey ignoring his force mind fuckery then wailling on him was wonderful. I really liked the climatic fight. Good choreography, characters, and presentation, like the saber glows illuminating clouds of kicked up snow.

I also liked how the overall climax grew progressively darker as the nearby sun was leached of energy. Nice visual detail.

Snoke didn't work for me. Kylo Ren is one of the best things about TFA, an awesome subversion of the natural expectation that he'd be a cookie cutter Vader 2.0. Kylo is more like Vader in reverse. (Well, if you consider the series in chronological order.) He makes an impressive entrance as this intimidating masked Sith, only to be humanized and brought low over the course of the film. He's like a bratty Anakin done right, with motives that make sense. His attitude fits his background and works thematically.

Kylo's face reveal is supposed to be underwhelming. It plays into the idea that he's a rather inadequate Vader fanboy, just a strong but undisciplined bully with incomplete training. Kylo was humiliated in TFA. It's a safe bet that he'll return in Ep. 8 more powerful and dead set on vengeance against Rey and Finn. This is a compelling villain in the making. Imperfect and somewhat sympathetic, with well established motivations.

I don't disagree with his potential, and I like your take on his deliberate underwhelmyness, but it meant we never got a real sense of threat from either the First Order or the MegaDeathStar - so we kind of had a movie with mismatched scale (relative to expectations) including a super powerful pre-formed megajedi (Rey) and an ubervillain with no personality at all. McDiarmid just acted everyone else off the screen in all four movies. So I can see Ren working in the long game - but I don't know how they're gonna fix Snoke.

Also, while they blew up the Megdeathstar, it had eaten the sun already, so they were too late. Them planets is doomed.

I saw it yesterday and mostly loved it. I had attempted a full media blackout, so I was unaware of nearly everything that was to come. I only knew something weird was going on with Luke, due to having seen the poster.

It was a bit disappointing that what was "going on" with Luke was that he was barely in the movie, though I guess it makes sense leading into the next one and allowed them to focus more on the new characters. He totally should have force-grabbed the lightsaber at the end though.

Otherwise, the only thing that really irked me was that Max Von Sydow's character was killed off barely 5 minutes into it. That's a real waste of a great actor. I was hoping he would play a larger role. Like everyone else, I hate that Han is gone, but knowing Harrison Ford I figured it was nearly a certainty.

The bowcaster hits like a tank. I'm honestly surprised he was strong enough to keep standing.

Dead

well not really...yet
I don't even remember Han being very close to Obi Wan or having all that much dialog with him

Guess I should rewatch ANH again.

To be frank the name Ben was kind of stupid. Han barely knew the guy, and it's not even Obi-Wan's real name, just some fake name he made while hiding (and didn't change his last name lol). Heck, he had even forgotten his name used to be Obi-Wan.
