Edit: It's up! Go get it, folks.

I seldom post a thread for VC news, but Super Mario RPG!

It will be released in Europe as part of this week's eShop update on December 24th.

Merry Christmas, folks!

(It's possible the US will get it too, but the PR for US updates comes later in the week)

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (SNES), Nintendo – £5.49 (€7.99)

The Mushroom Kingdom faces a new threat when a giant sword falls from the sky and lays chaos upon the land. Mario must gather a crew of unexpected allies to take on the nefarious Smithy Gang! Before Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi, the first Role-Playing Game featuring Mario was this celebrated collaboration between Nintendo and the makers of Final Fantasy, Squaresoft (now Square Enix). Many players hold fond memories of the witty dialogue and colourful characters like Mallow and Geno. If you own this title on your Wii, perform a system transfer from your Wii to your Wii U to receive a special upgrade price. This is the US version of the game.

Buy the only mario rpg that matters.

Who do you think you are, Bruce Lee?
You can't just go in there with your fists flying!

This is awesome! This is the only game I have left on the Wii side.
Now I'll just pay the fee and transfer it to the Wii U side! No more will I need to boot the Wii mode! :)

Edit: Wait a minute. Is it possible to use the save data from the Wii mode on the Wii U mode? I'm too far in the game and I haven't finished it yet...

My very first RPG and the one game that introduced me to the genre. An absolute gem of a game and I was gutted that we never had a follow-up.

Never could get into the Paper Mario games :/

Did FFVI ever come out on the Wii U eShop?

I thought I'd see that waaaay before this.

There are 0 Square Enix games on the Wii U VC in the West. And that will remain so because Square Enix doesn't give a fuck.

This is a Nintendo-published game.

It's a shame. The Japanese one has so many games like Secret of Mana.

I want Secret of Mana

So there's no need to worry about the 50Hz Demon with this, right? If it was never released in PAL land back in the day it should be 60Hz goodness for everyone.

just coming to say

GODESS SHIMOMURA this games sound track is amzing and if you haven't play this game before, play it is a really good jrpg

When no 50Hz version exists, they can't give you one. The Wii VC version was also 60Hz obviously. The only reason they give you 50Hz is language options anyway and since it's English-only ...

What the hell is up with NA? Why can't we all get the same shit :(

Because the NA PR for eShop releases comes out Thursday so there's no point in complaining today.

I'm taking that.
Wonder how much the upgrade will cost :)

€1.50 like every other SNES game.

To create the authentic PAL experience Nintendo completely redid the game in 50Hz, it makes the whole Virtual Console experience far less jarring.
I wouldn't put it past them

You mean you wouldn't put it past SEGA who actually did this shit? (Pulseman)

Don't make it worse than it is.

One of the finest Square RPG's ever made. Still sad that there hasn't been a sequel to this :(

The Mario and Luigi games are sequels to this. They're made by the same development team and they use very similar battle mechanics. In Japan they're called Mario and Luigi RPG.

I don't know whether this is the case, but both those series have a lot of the same spirit as this.

Paper Mario was originally called Super Mario RPG 2 during development.

This is one of my favourite games, I think I'll pick it up if there is no 50/60hz style gimpage.
