And everyone is really going in on the comments on how this is terrible for Fable, what's next Zelda etc?

The thing is Fable Legends is a free to play multiplayer Moba-etsc game where you buy characters like In Smite or League of Lengends. There is plenty of debate if you like this model as part of his genre but sitting reading this this morning with the comments and assumptions made by people are for this micro transactions being in place on top of a real Fable Game.

With things like this what the fix? Devs and community to step in and challenge the comments or is the narrative already written?

Edit: the game is free to play, 4v1 (or AI) dungeon crawler/Warframe/Hero battler(read the thread).

At first I was against of Fable being f2p, but after going trough Warframe, Smite and especially Neverwinter, I have grown to like some of these games. I have no problems with this business style, IF handled with common sense.

Now I just need new Guardians of Middle-Earth, I loved that game.

an image like this is pretty pointless without knowing how much gold you earn on average just by playing the game (if any?), how much gold stuff actually costs, what you can buy for only gold etc.
I'm not a huge fan of microtransactions, and never will be, but this doesn't really tell me anything one way or another

Fable Legends is a f2p game?!
yep. they announced it a while back (more than a year ago I think?)

On one hand I wouldn't doubt this for a moment, but on the other hand I'm reminded of those early microtransaction pics from Just Cause 3 that turned out not to be true.

And isn't Fable Legends free to play? If so, we already know they're going to micro/macro the place up. How else is it supposed to work?

I need the goods side of the in game economy first before I get outraged. How much does a hero cost? How grindy is the acquirement of gold by playing?

The problem with Fable Legends isn't F2P, it's the complete shift of genre and tone. Just like Syndicate, The Bureau and B&K Nuts and Bolts it shits on the legacy and fans of the games that made the brand matter. Legends also is launching in a market of fierce MOBA competition that I think is already saturated. I would be surprised if it managed to be supported for more than a year.

this is going to flop horribly

Not because of microtransactions, but because who the fuck thinks fable has an interesting enough world or gameplay to warrent an mmo.

I completely agree with you there, I think there are plenty of other concerns about the game in a pretty full market and if it will be fun but yes it's not really a Fable game and judging how a really large gaming community has reacted that detail isn't out there.

Not an MMO. It's Left 4 Dead in the world of Fable mixed with persistent character development and loot found in Destiny.

ive been spoiled by dota 2 and path of exile that i just don't like the other f2p models. i feel they should have used this as a lossleader to get people to actually use their store on pc.

This is only ever shocking when you've already bought a $60 game. Fable Legends is free, though, so this is fine.

OP, you might wand to clarify that it's a f2p game before even more people get confused.

Spoken like a proper PR person attempting to namedrop as many appealing things as possible to gather interest! Kudos!

Wasn`t we told that the F2P mechanics in Fable Legends was going to be great?

This is terrible. The "best offer" is the price of a full retail game in microtransactions.

We need more context.

What does the gold buy? How much do things cost?
How fast does it take to unlock them via in game credit?
Do characters go on rotation?

Posting a screen shot with money values doesn't really mean anything and all it does is drum up unnecessary hate for a game.

And yet you choose not to call out Betty for misrepresenting and then downplaying the game. So is it only bad (in your opinion) if someone is positive about a game?

edit: Or are you actually literally accusing the poster of being PR? in which case you'd better pm a mod and back it up with facts.

He sounded pretty impartial to me. I get that people are already picking up those pitchforks and wanting to poke at developers, but this shit is uselessly mean spirtied when the dude was just answering somebody.

Anyway, I'd like to wait and see how bad it is gameplay wise and how the coins affect balance. Right out of the gate, high prices don't inspire much confidence, and loot based drops aren't an easy thing to balance.

Or it's the easiest way to describe the game by saying it's taking elements from some games a bunch of people are familiar with?

I find it easier to say it's like X and Y rather then just describing the same mechanics a ton of other games have.
